इन्द्रा॑सोमा॒ तप॑तं॒ रक्ष॑ उ॒ब्जतं॒ न्य॑र्पयतं वृषणा तमो॒वृधः॑ । परा॑ शृणीतम॒चितो॒ न्यो॑षतं ह॒तं नु॒देथां॒ नि शि॑शीतम॒त्रिणः॑
indrāsomā tapataṃ rakṣa ubjataṃ nyarpayataṃ vṛṣaṇā tamovṛdhaḥ parā śaṛṇītamacito nyoṣataṃ hataṃ nudethāṃ ni śiśītamatriṇaḥ
Indra and Soma, burning, protect the sprouting grain, the growing kine, the steers mounting. Hear thus rightly: lay down what was struck down, cool the slain among the three.

indrāsomā samaghaśaṃsamabhya1ghaṃ tapuryayastu caruragnivām̐ iva brahmadviṣe kravyāde ghoracakṣase dveṣo dhattamanavāyaṃ kimīdine
Indra and Soma, purging the gathered mass, warmed like a fire-bearing one. In the fierce wrath of Brahman you will see terrible eyes of enmity; what is this day’s foe?

इन्द्रा॑सोमा दु॒ष्कृतो॑ व॒व्रे अ॒न्तर॑नारम्भ॒णे तम॑सि॒ प्र वि॑ध्यतम् । यथा॒ नातः॒ पुन॒रेक॑श्च॒नोदय॒त्तद्वा॑मस्तु॒ सह॑से मन्यु॒मच्छवः॑
indrāsomā duṣkṛto vavre antaranārambhaṇe tamasi pra vidhyatam yathā nātaḥ punarekaścanodayattadvāmastu sahase manyumacchavaḥ
Indra and Soma, having done evil, burst forth at the start of the inner undertaking, and entered into darkness. As one who is not born again rises once, so, O man, let the battling hosts check the might of the enemy.

indrāsomā vartayataṃ divo vadhaṃ saṃ pṛthivyā aghaśaṃsāya tarhaṇam uttakṣataṃ svaryaṃ1 parvatebhyo yena rakṣo vāvṛdhānaṃ nijūrvathaḥ
Indra and Soma set the course for heaven’s slaying and the earth’s expiation of guilt. The sun rose up from the mountains, by which the guardian increased the property of his folk.

इन्द्रा॑सोमा व॒र्तय॑तं दि॒वस्पर्य॑ग्नित॒प्तेभि॑र्यु॒वमश्म॑हन्मभिः । तपु॑र्वधेभिर॒जरे॑भिर॒त्रिणो॒ नि पर्शा॑ने विध्यतं॒ यन्तु॑ निस्व॒रम्
indrāsomā vartayataṃ divasparyagnitaptebhiryuvamaśmahanmabhiḥ tapurvadhebhirajarebhiratriṇo ni parśāne vidhyataṃ yantu nisvaram
Indra and Soma set the course for heaven amid fires and for youth with hard stones. By sacrifices for the slain and for the aged, let them make the lifeless ones stand firm and attain the imperishable.

इन्द्रा॑सोमा॒ परि॑ वां भूतु वि॒श्वत॑ इ॒यं म॒तिः क॒क्ष्याश्वे॑व वा॒जिना॑ । यां वां॒ होत्रां॑ परिहि॒नोमि॑ मे॒धये॒मा ब्रह्मा॑णि नृ॒पती॑व जिन्वतम्
indrāsomā pari vāṃ bhūtu viśvata iyaṃ matiḥ kakṣyāśveva vājinā yāṃ vāṃ hotrāṃ parihinomi medhayemā brahmāṇi nṛpatīva jinvatam
Indra and Soma, let this thought be manifest throughout the world, like the swift chariot or the mighty steed. I invoke the priestly offering for your protection; may the king be made victorious with manly strength.

प्रति॑ स्मरेथां तु॒जय॑द्भि॒रेवै॑र्ह॒तं द्रु॒हो र॒क्षसो॑ भङ्गु॒राव॑तः । इन्द्रा॑सोमा दु॒ष्कृते॒ मा सु॒गं भू॒द्यो नः॑ क॒दा चि॑दभि॒दास॑ति द्रु॒हा
prati smarethāṃ tujayadbhirevairhataṃ druho rakṣaso bhaṅgurāvataḥ indrāsomā duṣkṛte mā sugaṃ bhūdyo naḥ kadā cidabhidāsati druhā
Remembering that which was slain by your enemies, the treacherous, the fragile guard broke. Indra and Soma, do not make the evil deed thrive among us; when will the slanderer ever be driven away?

यो मा॒ पाके॑न॒ मन॑सा॒ चर॑न्तमभि॒चष्टे॒ अनृ॑तेभि॒र्वचो॑भिः । आप॑ इव का॒शिना॒ संगृ॑भीता॒ अस॑न्न॒स्त्वास॑त इन्द्र व॒क्ता
yo mā pākena manasā carantamabhicaṣṭe anṛtebhirvacobhiḥ āpa iva kāśinā saṃgṛbhītā asannastvāsata indra vaktā
He who in the cooking-place, with mind wandering, addressed the untrue words — like waters collected in a vessel, held together by a sieve, thus stood Indra, speaker.

ये पा॑कशं॒सं वि॒हर॑न्त॒ एवै॒र्ये वा॑ भ॒द्रं दू॒षय॑न्ति स्व॒धाभिः॑ । अह॑ये वा॒ तान्प्र॒ददा॑तु॒ सोम॒ आ वा॑ दधातु॒ निरृ॑तेरु॒पस्थे॑
ye pākaśaṃsaṃ viharanta evairye vā bhadraṃ dūṣayanti svadhābhiḥ ahaye vā tānpradadātu soma ā vā dadhātu nirṛterupasthe
Those who freely handle the cook’s portion and thus defile the good with offerings of their own, may Soma not grant them or give them to us; let the false ones not stand before the ear of truth.

यो नो॒ रसं॒ दिप्स॑ति पि॒त्वो अ॑ग्ने॒ यो अश्वा॑नां॒ यो गवां॒ यस्त॒नूना॑म् । रि॒पुः स्ते॒नः स्ते॑य॒कृद्द॒भ्रमे॑तु॒ नि ष ही॑यतां त॒न्वा॒३॒॑ तना॑ च
yo no rasaṃ dipsati pitvo agne yo aśvānāṃ yo gavāṃ yastanūnām ripuḥ stenaḥ steyakṛddabhrametu ni ṣa hīyatāṃ tanvā3 tanā ca
He who desires our sap, drinking like Agni, who of horses, who of cows, who of bodies — let the foe be struck, let the thief be confounded; may their limbs be shorn away.

प॒रः सो अ॑स्तु त॒न्वा॒३॒॑ तना॑ च ति॒स्रः पृ॑थि॒वीर॒धो अ॑स्तु॒ विश्वाः॑ । प्रति॑ शुष्यतु॒ यशो॑ अस्य देवा॒ यो नो॒ दिवा॒ दिप्स॑ति॒ यश्च॒ नक्त॑म्
paraḥ so astu tanvā3 tanā ca tisraḥ pṛthivīradho astu viśvāḥ prati śuṣyatu yaśo asya devā yo no divā dipsati yaśca naktam
May the beyond be theirs, and theirs the threefold body; may the broad earth be beneath, may all be. Let his fame wither who by day covets the light and by night the darkness.

सु॒वि॒ज्ञा॒नं चि॑कि॒तुषे॒ जना॑य॒ सच्चास॑च्च॒ वच॑सी पस्पृधाते । तयो॒र्यत्स॒त्यं य॑त॒रदृजी॑य॒स्तदित्सोमो॑ऽवति॒ हन्त्यास॑त्
suvijñānaṃ cikituṣe janāya saccāsacca vacasī paspṛdhāte tayoryatsatyaṃ yataradṛjīyastaditsomo'vati hantyāsat
He who knows well is the healer, who, speaking true speech, strives for what is true. That which is true of the two—what is firmly desired—Soma has come that this may be slain.

न वा उ॒ सोमो॑ वृजि॒नं हि॑नोति॒ न क्ष॒त्रियं॑ मिथु॒या धा॒रय॑न्तम् । हन्ति॒ रक्षो॒ हन्त्यास॒द्वद॑न्तमु॒भाविन्द्र॑स्य॒ प्रसि॑तौ शयाते
na vā u somo vṛjinaṃ hinoti na kṣatriyaṃ mithuyā dhārayantam hanti rakṣo hantyāsadvadantamubhāvindrasya prasitau śayāte
Neither Soma injures the warriors nor the Kshatriya who uphold falsehood; the demon strikes like one slain, lying down during Indra’s outpouring.

यदि॑ वा॒हमनृ॑तदेव॒ आस॒ मोघं॑ वा दे॒वाँ अ॑प्यू॒हे अ॑ग्ने । किम॒स्मभ्यं॑ जातवेदो हृणीषे द्रोघ॒वाच॑स्ते निरृ॒थं स॑चन्ताम्
yadi vāhamanṛtadeva āsa moghaṃ vā devām̐ apyūhe agne kimasmabhyaṃ jātavedo hṛṇīṣe droghavācaste nirṛthaṃ sacantām
If, O Agni, the false god approached or the gods were vainly reached, why, Jātavedas, do you utter deceitful words against us? Let your utterance not be fruitless.
Rigveda 7.104.15

अ॒द्या मु॑रीय॒ यदि॑ यातु॒धानो॒ अस्मि॒ यदि॒ वायु॑स्त॒तप॒ पूरु॑षस्य । अधा॒ स वी॒रैर्द॒शभि॒र्वि यू॑या॒ यो मा॒ मोघं॒ यातु॑धा॒नेत्याह॑
adyā murīya yadi yātudhāno asmi yadi vāyustatapa pūruṣasya adhā sa vīrairdaśabhirvi yūyā yo mā moghaṃ yātudhānetyāha
Today may ruin not come; if the breath of that being goes downward, then by ten heroes you are said to send me not vainly to ruin.

यो माया॑तुं॒ यातु॑धा॒नेत्याह॒ यो वा॑ र॒क्षाः शुचि॑र॒स्मीत्याह॑ । इन्द्र॒स्तं ह॑न्तु मह॒ता व॒धेन॒ विश्व॑स्य ज॒न्तोर॑ध॒मस्प॑दीष्ट
yo māyātuṃ yātudhānetyāha yo vā rakṣāḥ śucirasmītyāha indrastaṃ hantu mahatā vadhena viśvasya jantoradhamaspadīṣṭa
He who says ‘let him send to ruin’ or ‘let the protectors be pure,’ Indra slay him with a great death, as the foe of all creatures was decreed.

प्र या जिगा॑ति ख॒र्गले॑व॒ नक्त॒मप॑ द्रु॒हा त॒न्वं१॒॑ गूह॑माना । व॒व्राँ अ॑न॒न्ताँ अव॒ सा प॑दीष्ट॒ ग्रावा॑णो घ्नन्तु र॒क्षस॑ उप॒ब्दैः
pra yā jigāti khargaleva naktamapa druhā tanvaṃ1 gūhamānā vavrām̐ anantām̐ ava sā padīṣṭa grāvāṇo ghnantu rakṣasa upabdaiḥ
He advanced like a sword at night, tearing open the cave-like body. Let the countless cattle strike him down; let the herdsmen slay the demon with their arms.

वि ति॑ष्ठध्वं मरुतो वि॒क्ष्वि१॒॑च्छत॑ गृभा॒यत॑ र॒क्षसः॒ सं पि॑नष्टन । वयो॒ ये भू॒त्वी प॒तय॑न्ति न॒क्तभि॒र्ये वा॒ रिपो॑ दधि॒रे दे॒वे अ॑ध्व॒रे
vi tiṣṭhadhvaṃ maruto vikṣvi1cchata gṛbhāyata rakṣasaḥ saṃ pinaṣṭana vayo ye bhūtvī patayanti naktabhirye vā ripo dadhire deve adhvare
Stand forth, Maruts, look around, hold the harness; the protectors together are destroyed. Those of us who become masters may not be held by foes at night—O gods, guard the path.

प्र व॑र्तय दि॒वो अश्मा॑नमिन्द्र॒ सोम॑शितं मघव॒न्सं शि॑शाधि । प्राक्ता॒दपा॑क्तादध॒रादुद॑क्ताद॒भि ज॑हि र॒क्षसः॒ पर्व॑तेन
pra vartaya divo aśmānamindra somaśitaṃ maghavansaṃ śiśādhi prāktādapāktādadharādudaktādabhi jahi rakṣasaḥ parvatena
Drive away the stones of heaven, Indra, the Soma-drunk, noble, abundant in wealth, conquer the hostile ones who came from before and behind, from below and above; strike down the demons by the mountain.

ए॒त उ॒ त्ये प॑तयन्ति॒ श्वया॑तव॒ इन्द्रं॑ दिप्सन्ति दि॒प्सवोऽदा॑भ्यम् । शिशी॑ते श॒क्रः पिशु॑नेभ्यो व॒धं नू॒नं सृ॑जद॒शनिं॑ यातु॒मद्भ्यः॑
eta u tye patayanti śvayātava indraṃ dipsanti dipsavo'dābhyam śiśīte śakraḥ piśunebhyo vadhaṃ nūnaṃ sṛjadaśaniṃ yātumadbhyaḥ
These thus drive him forth; they kindle Indra by their own might, kindling zeal among the gods. The mighty one in his cold struck the foes with slaying—surely he sent the adversaries away.

इन्द्रो॑ यातू॒नाम॑भवत्पराश॒रो ह॑वि॒र्मथी॑नाम॒भ्या॒३॒॑विवा॑सताम् । अ॒भीदु॑ श॒क्रः प॑र॒शुर्यथा॒ वनं॒ पात्रे॑व भि॒न्दन्स॒त ए॑ति र॒क्षसः॑
indro yātūnāmabhavatparāśaro havirmathīnāmabhyā3vivāsatām abhīdu śakraḥ paraśuryathā vanaṃ pātreva bhindansata eti rakṣasaḥ
Indra became as a slayer of those going forth; he, like Parāśara, poured the oblation for the charioteers. Like a mighty axe he cleaves the forest as if it were a vessel—so the protectors go forth.

उलू॑कयातुं शुशु॒लूक॑यातुं ज॒हि श्वया॑तुमु॒त कोक॑यातुम् । सु॒प॒र्णया॑तुमु॒त गृध्र॑यातुं दृ॒षदे॑व॒ प्र मृ॑ण॒ रक्ष॑ इन्द्र
ulūkayātuṃ śuśulūkayātuṃ jahi śvayātumuta kokayātum suparṇayātumuta gṛdhrayātuṃ dṛṣadeva pra mṛṇa rakṣa indra
Let the owl come, let the beetle come, slay the serpent, let the crow come. Let the Garuda come, let the vulture come, O Indra, behold and crush the obstructing enemy.

मा नो॒ रक्षो॑ अ॒भि न॑ड्यातु॒माव॑ता॒मपो॑च्छतु मिथु॒ना या कि॑मी॒दिना॑ । पृ॒थि॒वी नः॒ पार्थि॑वात्पा॒त्वंह॑सो॒ऽन्तरि॑क्षं दि॒व्यात्पा॑त्व॒स्मान्
mā no rakṣo abhi naḍyātumāvatāmapocchatu mithunā yā kimīdinā pṛthivī naḥ pārthivātpātvaṃhaso'ntarikṣaṃ divyātpātvasmān
May not the demon approach us; may the rivers hide the pair that causes suffering. O Earth, grant us protection from the earthly, O Sky, from the aerial, O Heaven, from the divine.

इन्द्र॑ ज॒हि पुमां॑सं यातु॒धान॑मु॒त स्त्रियं॑ मा॒यया॒ शाश॑दानाम् । विग्री॑वासो॒ मूर॑देवा ऋदन्तु॒ मा ते दृ॑श॒न्सूर्य॑मु॒च्चर॑न्तम्
indra jahi pumāṃsaṃ yātudhānamuta striyaṃ māyayā śāśadānām vigrīvāso mūradevā ṛdantu mā te dṛśansūryamuccarantam
Indra, slay the man and send ruin upon the foe; do not, by illusion, let the woman of the malicious remain. Let the bold gods rend the necks; may they not behold the sun and cry aloud.

प्रति॑ चक्ष्व॒ वि च॒क्ष्वेन्द्र॑श्च सोम जागृतम् । रक्षो॑भ्यो व॒धम॑स्यतम॒शनिं॑ यातु॒मद्भ्यः॑
prati cakṣva vi cakṣvendraśca soma jāgṛtam rakṣobhyo vadhamasyatamaśaniṃ yātumadbhyaḥ
Look, and Indra looked, and Soma was awakened. Let the slaughter of the demons be accepted; may he send ruin upon them.
