yadindra prāgapāgudaṅnyagvā hūyase nṛbhiḥ simā purū nṛṣūto asyānave'si praśardha turvaśe
If formerly, Indra, you were invoked by men with prayers and oblations, the settled folk of the people moved forth; be swift in helping us.

yadvā rume ruśame śyāvake kṛpa indra mādayase sacā kaṇvāsastvā brahmabhiḥ stomavāhasa indrā yacchantyā gahi
When you delight in the foam, the stag, the dark and the bright, O Indra, with the Kanvas and with the Brahmans you accept hymns; take what these bring.

yathā gauro apā kṛtaṃ tṛṣyannetyaveriṇam āpitve naḥ prapitve tūyamā gahi kaṇveṣu su sacā piba
As the brown bull thirsts and seeks the stream, so come to us, Kanvas; drink the steadfast soma with the companions, O friends.

mandantu tvā maghavannindrendavo rādhodeyāya sunvate āmuṣyā somamapibaścamū sutaṃ jyeṣṭhaṃ taddadhiṣe sahaḥ
Let the glories, Indra, sing over you, the gleaming ones bringing the juice; may they drink the sweet soma, the eldest offspring, and place it near with thee.

pra cakre sahasā saho babhañja manyumojasā viśve ta indra pṛtanāyavo yaho ni vṛkṣā iva yemire
With force he struck together, he broke and smote with vigour; Indra, for all, set up the trees like conquerors—those he felled as if they were enemies.

स॒हस्रे॑णेव सचते यवी॒युधा॒ यस्त॒ आन॒ळुप॑स्तुतिम् । पु॒त्रं प्रा॑व॒र्गं कृ॑णुते सु॒वीर्ये॑ दा॒श्नोति॒ नम॑उक्तिभिः
sahasreṇeva sacate yavīyudhā yasta ānaḷupastutim putraṃ prāvargaṃ kṛṇute suvīrye dāśnoti namauktibhiḥ
He who praises with a thousand steeds, who carries forth the hymn with youthful strength, begets a hero son, and by declarations gains abundant renown.

mā bhema mā śramiṣmograsya sakhye tava mahatte vṛṣṇo abhicakṣyaṃ kṛtaṃ paśyema turvaśaṃ yadum
Be not fearful, nor be worn by toil in thy friendship. O Vrṣṇa, I shall speak forth the great deed; behold what bounty I have wrought.

savyāmanu sphigyaṃ vāvase vṛṣā na dāno asya roṣati madhvā sampṛktāḥ sāragheṇa dhenavastūyamehi dravā piba
May the steers yoked to the left not resent this gift. Joined with sweet milk and the milking-stool, O cows, come, drink the flowing liquid.

aśvī rathī surūpa idgomām̐ idindra te sakhā śvātrabhājā vayasā sacate sadā candro yāti sabhāmupa
Horseman, radiant charioteer, this Indra is your friend. The hounds divided by age range always; the moon goes to the assembly.

ṛśyo na tṛṣyannavapānamā gahi pibā somaṃ vaśām̐ anu nimeghamāno maghavandivediva ojiṣṭhaṃ dadhiṣe sahaḥ
Rishya, do not thirst nor avoid the draught; take and drink Soma as commanded. The cloud-born one praises riches like the sky; place strength foremost with him together.

adhvaryo drāvayā tvaṃ somamindraḥ pipāsati upa nūnaṃ yuyuje vṛṣaṇā harī ā ca jagāma vṛtrahā
O Indra, you thirst for Soma poured as drink. Truly the bulls yoked to you were harnessed — the slayer of Vṛtra came forth.

svayaṃ citsa manyate dāśurirjano yatrā somasya tṛmpasi idaṃ te annaṃ yujyaṃ samukṣitaṃ tasyehi pra dravā piba
He himself is thought to be the giver of wealth where the people press Soma. This food prepared for you, kept well, take and drink the flowing portion.

र॒थे॒ष्ठाया॑ध्वर्यवः॒ सोम॒मिन्द्रा॑य सोतन । अधि॑ ब्र॒ध्नस्याद्र॑यो॒ वि च॑क्षते सु॒न्वन्तो॑ दा॒श्व॑ध्वरम्
ratheṣṭhāyādhvaryavaḥ somamindrāya sotana adhi bradhnasyādrayo vi cakṣate sunvanto dāśvadhvaram
Best of chariots, Adhvarya placed Soma for Indra as a libation. He looked upon the two rivers with might and saw the ten-gated ford rushing onward.

उप॑ ब्र॒ध्नं वा॒वाता॒ वृष॑णा॒ हरी॒ इन्द्र॑म॒पसु॑ वक्षतः । अ॒र्वाञ्चं॑ त्वा॒ सप्त॑योऽध्वर॒श्रियो॒ वह॑न्तु॒ सव॒नेदुप॑
upa bradhnaṃ vāvātā vṛṣaṇā harī indramapasu vakṣataḥ arvāñcaṃ tvā saptayo'dhvaraśriyo vahantu savanedupa
Taking up the draught or blowing, the bulls bore Indra away in battle. May the seven-armed bring you, Arvañch, skilled in the two fords, to the assembly.

प्र पू॒षणं॑ वृणीमहे॒ युज्या॑य पुरू॒वसु॑म् । स श॑क्र शिक्ष पुरुहूत नो धि॒या तुजे॑ रा॒ये वि॑मोचन
pra pūṣaṇaṃ vṛṇīmahe yujyāya purūvasum sa śakra śikṣa puruhūta no dhiyā tuje rāye vimocana
We choose Pūṣan, worthy of conjugal rite, to lead the pair of ancient waters. He, like Śakra, instructs the priest for our thought and loosens for the realm.

सं नः॑ शिशीहि भु॒रिजो॑रिव क्षु॒रं रास्व॑ रा॒यो वि॑मोचन । त्वे तन्नः॑ सु॒वेद॑मु॒स्रियं॒ वसु॒ यं त्वं हि॒नोषि॒ मर्त्य॑म्
saṃ naḥ śiśīhi bhurijoriva kṣuraṃ rāsva rāyo vimocana tve tannaḥ suvedamusriyaṃ vasu yaṃ tvaṃ hinoṣi martyam
Grant us a razor-sharp śiśīha and knife, O dispenser, loosener of kings. Give us that auspicious treasure, O Vasus, which you have procured for mortals.

वेमि॑ त्वा पूषन्नृ॒ञ्जसे॒ वेमि॒ स्तोत॑व आघृणे । न तस्य॑ वे॒म्यर॑णं॒ हि तद्व॑सो स्तु॒षे प॒ज्राय॒ साम्ने॑
vemi tvā pūṣannṛñjase vemi stotava āghṛṇe na tasya vemyaraṇaṃ hi tadvaso stuṣe pajrāya sāmne
I sprinkle you, Pūṣan, I entice you, I have chosen you with praise. Not for him is the small stallion’s contest—may your dwelling be praised in the Sāman hymn.

परा॒ गावो॒ यव॑सं॒ कच्चि॑दाघृणे॒ नित्यं॒ रेक्णो॑ अमर्त्य । अ॒स्माकं॑ पूषन्नवि॒ता शि॒वो भ॑व॒ मंहि॑ष्ठो॒ वाज॑सातये
parā gāvo yavasaṃ kaccidāghṛṇe nityaṃ rekṇo amartya asmākaṃ pūṣannavitā śivo bhava maṃhiṣṭho vājasātaye
Beyond are cows and grain which he has seized ever as immortal abundance. Our Pūṣan, foremost of wealth, be auspicious for the strengthening of mighty raiding-men.

sthūraṃ rādhaḥ śatāśvaṃ kuruṅgasya diviṣṭiṣu rājñastveṣasya subhagasya rātiṣu turvaśeṣvamanmahi
Make substantial the chariot, the hundred-horsed steed, among the stretches of the sky. O king, may you of fair splendour rule in nights and be famed among the remaining hosts.

धी॒भिः सा॒तानि॑ का॒ण्वस्य॑ वा॒जिनः॑ प्रि॒यमे॑धैर॒भिद्यु॑भिः । ष॒ष्टिं स॒हस्रानु॒ निर्म॑जामजे॒ निर्यू॒थानि॒ गवा॒मृषिः॑
dhībhiḥ sātāni kāṇvasya vājinaḥ priyamedhairabhidyubhiḥ ṣaṣṭiṃ sahasrānu nirmajāmaje niryūthāni gavāmṛṣiḥ
With wise words the singers of Kaṇva, the strong givers, love what is dear. I will anoint sixty thousand steeds and loose the host of cattle — the seer of cows.

वृ॒क्षाश्चि॑न्मे अभिपि॒त्वे अ॑रारणुः । गां भ॑जन्त मे॒हनाश्वं॑ भजन्त मे॒हना॑
vṛkṣāścinme abhipitve arāraṇuḥ gāṃ bhajanta mehanāśvaṃ bhajanta mehanā
O trees, come to me when invoked, you born of Āra. Cows attend my milch-one, the milch-cows attend my milchers.
