प्र श्या॑वाश्व धृष्णु॒यार्चा॑ म॒रुद्भि॒रृक्व॑भिः । ये अ॑द्रो॒घम॑नुष्व॒धं श्रवो॒ मद॑न्ति य॒ज्ञियाः॑
pra śyāvāśva dhṛṣṇuyārcā marudbhirṛkvabhiḥ ye adroghamanuṣvadhaṃ śravo madanti yajñiyāḥ
Drive the black-bayed steeds, O Drsnuya, with the Maruts like dispersed riders—those who, embracing the near oblation, listen to my voice, the ritualists.

ते हि स्थि॒रस्य॒ शव॑सः॒ सखा॑यः॒ सन्ति॑ धृष्णु॒या । ते याम॒न्ना धृ॑ष॒द्विन॒स्त्मना॑ पान्ति॒ शश्व॑तः
te hi sthirasya śavasaḥ sakhāyaḥ santi dhṛṣṇuyā te yāmannā dhṛṣadvinastmanā pānti śaśvataḥ
They are comrades of steady breath, friends of Drsnuya; they abide, unshaken, sustaining food, the ever-enduring.

ते स्य॒न्द्रासो॒ नोक्षणोऽति॑ ष्कन्दन्ति॒ शर्व॑रीः । म॒रुता॒मधा॒ महो॑ दि॒वि क्ष॒मा च॑ मन्महे
te syandrāso nokṣaṇo'ti ṣkandanti śarvarīḥ marutāmadhā maho divi kṣamā ca manmahe
Those swift mares of ours run to the heights; the Sharvari (noble ones) resound. We meditate on the great Maruts in the wide sky and adore their might.

म॒रुत्सु॑ वो दधीमहि॒ स्तोमं॑ य॒ज्ञं च॑ धृष्णु॒या । विश्वे॒ ये मानु॑षा यु॒गा पान्ति॒ मर्त्यं॑ रि॒षः
marutsu vo dadhīmahi stomaṃ yajñaṃ ca dhṛṣṇuyā viśve ye mānuṣā yugā pānti martyaṃ riṣaḥ
We invoke the Maruts; we compose praise and the ritual with Drsnuya. All men who follow the generations purify mortal life and are sought by the seers.

अर्ह॑न्तो॒ ये सु॒दान॑वो॒ नरो॒ असा॑मिशवसः । प्र य॒ज्ञं य॒ज्ञिये॑भ्यो दि॒वो अ॑र्चा म॒रुद्भ्यः॑
arhanto ye sudānavo naro asāmiśavasaḥ pra yajñaṃ yajñiyebhyo divo arcā marudbhyaḥ
Those worthy ones, the good Dānavas, men like peers and rulers, made the sacrifice for the sacrificers, the Heaven’s worship, for the Maruts’ honour.

आ रु॒क्मैरा यु॒धा नर॑ ऋ॒ष्वा ऋ॒ष्टीर॑सृक्षत । अन्वे॑ना॒ँ अह॑ वि॒द्युतो॑ म॒रुतो॒ जज्झ॑तीरिव भा॒नुर॑र्त॒ त्मना॑ दि॒वः
ā rukmairā yudhā nara ṛṣvā ṛṣṭīrasṛkṣata anvenām̐ aha vidyuto maruto jajjhatīriva bhānurarta tmanā divaḥ
They, like golden steeds, fought, the men, the seers, the swift ones; with sweeping force the Marut like lightning rent asunder, the shining one cleaved the sky with mind.

ये वा॑वृ॒धन्त॒ पार्थि॑वा॒ य उ॒राव॒न्तरि॑क्ष॒ आ । वृ॒जने॑ वा न॒दीनां॑ स॒धस्थे॑ वा म॒हो दि॒वः
ye vāvṛdhanta pārthivā ya urāvantarikṣa ā vṛjane vā nadīnāṃ sadhasthe vā maho divaḥ
Those that increase the earthly realm, who are in the spaces within the breasts and in the worlds — in the assembly of rivers or set in the high places, these great heavens abide.

शर्धो॒ मारु॑त॒मुच्छं॑स स॒त्यश॑वस॒मृभ्व॑सम् । उ॒त स्म॒ ते शु॒भे नरः॒ प्र स्य॒न्द्रा यु॑जत॒ त्मना॑
śardho mārutamucchaṃsa satyaśavasamṛbhvasam uta sma te śubhe naraḥ pra syandrā yujata tmanā
Shout, O Marut, uplifting, resounding, with true steeds and might; may a well-born man, auspicious, join you with his spirit.

उ॒त स्म॒ ते परु॑ष्ण्या॒मूर्णा॑ वसत शु॒न्ध्यवः॑ । उ॒त प॒व्या रथा॑ना॒मद्रिं॑ भिन्द॒न्त्योज॑सा
uta sma te paruṣṇyāmūrṇā vasata śundhyavaḥ uta pavyā rathānāmadriṃ bhindantyojasā
And may those who sit in the surging waters dwell in the spring-tide mornings; may the strong ones break the mountain paths of chariot-tracks with vigour.

आप॑थयो॒ विप॑थ॒योऽन्त॑स्पथा॒ अनु॑पथाः । ए॒तेभि॒र्मह्यं॒ नाम॑भिर्य॒ज्ञं वि॑ष्टा॒र ओ॑हते
āpathayo vipathayo'ntaspathā anupathāḥ etebhirmahyaṃ nāmabhiryajñaṃ viṣṭāra ohate
Those who wander off the path, the stray and the inner ways, these by names expand the sacrifice for us and bear it forth.

adhā naro nyohate'dhā niyuta ohate adhā pārāvatā iti citrā rūpāṇi darśyā
Below men are brought down, below they are yoked and led; below are the regions beyond, wondrous forms to be seen.

छ॒न्दः॒स्तुभः॑ कुभ॒न्यव॒ उत्स॒मा की॒रिणो॑ नृतुः । ते मे॒ के चि॒न्न ता॒यव॒ ऊमा॑ आसन्दृ॒शि त्वि॒षे
chandaḥstubhaḥ kubhanyava utsamā kīriṇo nṛtuḥ te me ke cinna tāyava ūmā āsandṛśi tviṣe
Chandas, Stubh, Kubhanya, Utsama, Kirīṇa — the dance of praise. Who among you cut those bonds? O Uma, you appeared for them with poison.

य ऋ॒ष्वा ऋ॒ष्टिवि॑द्युतः क॒वयः॒ सन्ति॑ वे॒धसः॑ । तमृ॑षे॒ मारु॑तं ग॒णं न॑म॒स्या र॒मया॑ गि॒रा
ya ṛṣvā ṛṣṭividyutaḥ kavayaḥ santi vedhasaḥ tamṛṣe mārutaṃ gaṇaṃ namasyā ramayā girā
They, the seers, the lightning-knowers, the poets, are the observant ones; they called the Marut host touched by desire, and praised the speech with delight.

अच्छ॑ ऋषे॒ मारु॑तं ग॒णं दा॒ना मि॒त्रं न यो॒षणा॑ । दि॒वो वा॑ धृष्णव॒ ओज॑सा स्तु॒ता धी॒भिरि॑षण्यत
accha ṛṣe mārutaṃ gaṇaṃ dānā mitraṃ na yoṣaṇā divo vā dhṛṣṇava ojasā stutā dhībhiriṣaṇyata
Indeed the seers gave the Marut host gifts, Mitra not stingy with embrace. They praised the heaven by vigour; with minds they struck the herbs.

नू म॑न्वा॒न ए॑षां दे॒वाँ अच्छा॒ न व॒क्षणा॑ । दा॒ना स॑चेत सू॒रिभि॒र्याम॑श्रुतेभिर॒ञ्जिभिः॑
nū manvāna eṣāṃ devām̐ acchā na vakṣaṇā dānā saceta sūribhiryāmaśrutebhirañjibhiḥ
Do not forget these gods, O man; give gifts with conscious bravery, with tears and with devout lips.

प्र ये मे॑ बन्ध्वे॒षे गां वोच॑न्त सू॒रयः॒ पृश्निं॑ वोचन्त मा॒तर॑म् । अधा॑ पि॒तर॑मि॒ष्मिणं॑ रु॒द्रं वो॑चन्त॒ शिक्व॑सः
pra ye me bandhveṣe gāṃ vocanta sūrayaḥ pṛśniṃ vocanta mātaram adhā pitaramiṣmiṇaṃ rudraṃ vocanta śikvasaḥ
Those brave ones who addressed my kin — the heroes spoke; they named the mother to you. Below the father they invoked Rudra among you, the hoarse-voiced ones spoke.

स॒प्त मे॑ स॒प्त शा॒किन॒ एक॑मेका श॒ता द॑दुः । य॒मुना॑या॒मधि॑ श्रु॒तमुद्राधो॒ गव्यं॑ मृजे॒ नि राधो॒ अश्व्यं॑ मृजे
sapta me sapta śākina ekamekā śatā daduḥ yamunāyāmadhi śrutamudrādho gavyaṃ mṛje ni rādho aśvyaṃ mṛje
Seven they placed, seven mighty ones, each one gave a hundred. By the Yamunā was heard the stamping downward: the cow lowed, the stallion neighed, the steed stamped.
