क॒था दे॒वानां॑ कत॒मस्य॒ याम॑नि सु॒मन्तु॒ नाम॑ शृण्व॒तां म॑नामहे । को मृ॑ळाति कत॒मो नो॒ मय॑स्करत्कत॒म ऊ॒ती अ॒भ्या व॑वर्तति
kathā devānāṃ katamasya yāmani sumantu nāma śaṛṇvatāṃ manāmahe ko mṛḷāti katamo no mayaskaratkatama ūtī abhyā vavartati
How, O wise ones, are the names of the gods counted through what watches? Hear us and grant us favor. Who shall proclaim what of ours has become pleasing, and what has gone upward among the swift ones?

क्र॒तू॒यन्ति॒ क्रत॑वो हृ॒त्सु धी॒तयो॒ वेन॑न्ति वे॒नाः प॒तय॒न्त्या दिशः॑ । न म॑र्डि॒ता वि॑द्यते अ॒न्य ए॑भ्यो दे॒वेषु॑ मे॒ अधि॒ कामा॑ अयंसत
kratūyanti kratavo hṛtsu dhītayo venanti venāḥ patayantyā diśaḥ na marḍitā vidyate anya ebhyo deveṣu me adhi kāmā ayaṃsata
They perform rites, the ritual-makers; intentions are taken to hearts, the vital currents go, the directions fall away. No other among the gods is pressed down; my desires reached only them.

नरा॑ वा॒ शंसं॑ पू॒षण॒मगो॑ह्यम॒ग्निं दे॒वेद्ध॑म॒भ्य॑र्चसे गि॒रा । सूर्या॒मासा॑ च॒न्द्रम॑सा य॒मं दि॒वि त्रि॒तं वात॑मु॒षस॑म॒क्तुम॒श्विना॑
narā vā śaṃsaṃ pūṣaṇamagohyamagniṃ deveddhamabhyarcase girā sūryāmāsā candramasā yamaṃ divi tritaṃ vātamuṣasamaktumaśvinā
Men praise not the nourisher who is unapproachable; you invoked Agni to the gods with speech. With Sun and Moon, with Yama in heaven, and with Vata the thrice-mounted, O Ashvins, unite (them).

kathā kavistuvīravānkayā girā bṛhaspatirvāvṛdhate suvṛktibhiḥ aja ekapātsuhavebhirṛkvabhirahiḥ śaṛṇotu budhnyo3 havīmani
How, O poets, does the glorious lord Brihaspati expand with splendid utterances? Let the unborn one hear with assembled hymns, let the intelligent one listen to the oblation.

दक्ष॑स्य वादिते॒ जन्म॑नि व्र॒ते राजा॑ना मि॒त्रावरु॒णा वि॑वाससि । अतू॑र्तपन्थाः पुरु॒रथो॑ अर्य॒मा स॒प्तहो॑ता॒ विषु॑रूपेषु॒ जन्म॑सु
dakṣasya vādite janmani vrate rājānā mitrāvaruṇā vivāsasi atūrtapanthāḥ pururatho aryamā saptahotā viṣurūpeṣu janmasu
In the skillful father's declared birth, kings kept their vows; Mitra and Varuna rejoiced together. The weary paths of the chariot, Aryaman, Pururatha, the seven-invoker, born among manifold forms.

ते नो॒ अर्व॑न्तो हवन॒श्रुतो॒ हवं॒ विश्वे॑ शृण्वन्तु वा॒जिनो॑ मि॒तद्र॑वः । स॒ह॒स्र॒सा मे॒धसा॑ताविव॒ त्मना॑ म॒हो ये धनं॑ समि॒थेषु॑ जभ्रि॒रे
te no arvanto havanaśruto havaṃ viśve śaṛṇvantu vājino mitadravaḥ sahasrasā medhasātāviva tmanā maho ye dhanaṃ samitheṣu jabhrire
Let those invokers hear our hymns, all who heed the oblation; may the possessors of riches hear with thousandfold mind and grant great wealth to the assemblies where they have offered praise.

प्र वो॑ वा॒युं र॑थ॒युजं॒ पुरं॑धिं॒ स्तोमैः॑ कृणुध्वं स॒ख्याय॑ पू॒षण॑म् । ते हि दे॒वस्य॑ सवि॒तुः सवी॑मनि॒ क्रतुं॒ सच॑न्ते स॒चितः॒ सचे॑तसः
pra vo vāyuṃ rathayujaṃ puraṃdhiṃ stomaiḥ kṛṇudhvaṃ sakhyāya pūṣaṇam te hi devasya savituḥ savīmani kratuṃ sacante sacitaḥ sacetasaḥ
Drive forth the swift harnessed Wind like a chariot, O singers, make the ally Pūṣan with hymns. For they enact the ritual of Savitṛ, the power of Savitṛ with thought, united in consciousness.

त्रिः स॒प्त स॒स्रा न॒द्यो॑ म॒हीर॒पो वन॒स्पती॒न्पर्व॑ताँ अ॒ग्निमू॒तये॑ । कृ॒शानु॒मस्तॄ॑न्ति॒ष्यं॑ स॒धस्थ॒ आ रु॒द्रं रु॒द्रेषु॑ रु॒द्रियं॑ हवामहे
triḥ sapta sasrā nadyo mahīrapo vanaspatīnparvatām̐ agnimūtaye kṛśānumastṝntiṣyaṃ sadhastha ā rudraṃ rudreṣu rudriyaṃ havāmahe
Three and seven, the streams, O mighty ones of the earth, trees and mountains bring forth Agni. They strike thinly and spread; we invoke Rudra among the Rudras with the sacred invocation.

सर॑स्वती स॒रयुः॒ सिन्धु॑रू॒र्मिभि॑र्म॒हो म॒हीरव॒सा य॑न्तु॒ वक्ष॑णीः । दे॒वीरापो॑ मा॒तरः॑ सूदयि॒त्न्वो॑ घृ॒तव॒त्पयो॒ मधु॑मन्नो अर्चत
sarasvatī sarayuḥ sindhurūrmibhirmaho mahīravasā yantu vakṣaṇīḥ devīrāpo mātaraḥ sūdayitnvo ghṛtavatpayo madhumanno arcata
Sarasvatī, the floodlike rivers, with mighty streams come, O channels; goddesses, waters, mothers, may they bestow upon you ghee, milk, honey, and grain.

उ॒त मा॒ता बृ॑हद्दि॒वा शृ॑णोतु न॒स्त्वष्टा॑ दे॒वेभि॒र्जनि॑भिः पि॒ता वचः॑ । ऋ॒भु॒क्षा वाजो॒ रथ॒स्पति॒र्भगो॑ र॒ण्वः शंसः॑ शशमा॒नस्य॑ पातु नः
uta mātā bṛhaddivā śaṛṇotu nastvaṣṭā devebhirjanibhiḥ pitā vacaḥ ṛbhukṣā vājo rathaspatirbhago raṇvaḥ śaṃsaḥ śaśamānasya pātu naḥ
May the great mother hear like the wide daylight; may the eight protectors with their births, the father of speech, bless us. May the Rbhukṣa, wielder of wealth, charioteer, lord, bring fortune; may praise protect the tranquil one for us.

र॒ण्वः संदृ॑ष्टौ पितु॒माँ इ॑व॒ क्षयो॑ भ॒द्रा रु॒द्राणां॑ म॒रुता॒मुप॑स्तुतिः । गोभिः॑ ष्याम य॒शसो॒ जने॒ष्वा सदा॑ देवास॒ इळ॑या सचेमहि
raṇvaḥ saṃdṛṣṭau pitumām̐ iva kṣayo bhadrā rudrāṇāṃ marutāmupastutiḥ gobhiḥ ṣyāma yaśaso janeṣvā sadā devāsa iḷayā sacemahi
The warrior praised like a father when seen in battle—may the noble praise of the Rudras and the Marutas be present. May the cows bestow black fame among peoples; ever with the gods may we strive with the sacred milk.

यां मे॒ धियं॒ मरु॑त॒ इन्द्र॒ देवा॒ अद॑दात वरुण मित्र यू॒यम् । तां पी॑पयत॒ पय॑सेव धे॒नुं कु॒विद्गिरो॒ अधि॒ रथे॒ वहा॑थ
yāṃ me dhiyaṃ maruta indra devā adadāta varuṇa mitra yūyam tāṃ pīpayata payaseva dhenuṃ kuvidgiro adhi rathe vahātha
That wisdom which the Maruts and Indra and the gods gave to me—Varuṇa and Mitra, you drank it in. That cow nourished with milk, bring her forth on the chariot over the mount.

कु॒विद॒ङ्ग प्रति॒ यथा॑ चिद॒स्य नः॑ सजा॒त्य॑स्य मरुतो॒ बुबो॑धथ । नाभा॒ यत्र॑ प्रथ॒मं सं॒नसा॑महे॒ तत्र॑ जामि॒त्वमदि॑तिर्दधातु नः
kuvidaṅga prati yathā cidasya naḥ sajātyasya maruto bubodhatha nābhā yatra prathamaṃ saṃnasāmahe tatra jāmitvamaditirdadhātu naḥ
As the kine stray about the cowfold for us, O Maruts, they lowed. Where first we met together, there let Aditi place for us a birth-giving seat.

ते हि द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी मा॒तरा॑ म॒ही दे॒वी दे॒वाञ्जन्म॑ना य॒ज्ञिये॑ इ॒तः । उ॒भे बि॑भृत उ॒भयं॒ भरी॑मभिः पु॒रू रेतां॑सि पि॒तृभि॑श्च सिञ्चतः
te hi dyāvāpṛthivī mātarā mahī devī devāñjanmanā yajñiye itaḥ ubhe bibhṛta ubhayaṃ bharīmabhiḥ purū retāṃsi pitṛbhiśca siñcataḥ
They are indeed Heaven and Earth, the mothers, the mighty ones; the gods by birth are worthy of sacrifice from here. Both uphold and bear both, bearing forth the seed and sprinkling it upon the fathers.

वि षा होत्रा॒ विश्व॑मश्नोति॒ वार्यं॒ बृह॒स्पति॑र॒रम॑तिः॒ पनी॑यसी । ग्रावा॒ यत्र॑ मधु॒षुदु॒च्यते॑ बृ॒हदवी॑वशन्त म॒तिभि॑र्मनी॒षिणः॑
vi ṣā hotrā viśvamaśnoti vāryaṃ bṛhaspatiraramatiḥ panīyasī grāvā yatra madhuṣuducyate bṛhadavīvaśanta matibhirmanīṣiṇaḥ
The priestly poison consumes all; the lord of the wide-strung sacrificial realm, Brihaspati, arms himself. Where cry is called the drinking-place of cattle, the broad-visioned, thoughtful seers entered with counsel.

ए॒वा क॒विस्तु॑वी॒रवा॑ँ ऋत॒ज्ञा द्र॑विण॒स्युर्द्रवि॑णसश्चका॒नः । उ॒क्थेभि॒रत्र॑ म॒तिभि॑श्च॒ विप्रोऽपी॑पय॒द्गयो॑ दि॒व्यानि॒ जन्म॑
evā kavistuvīravām̐ ṛtajñā draviṇasyurdraviṇasaścakānaḥ ukthebhiratra matibhiśca vipro'pīpayadgayo divyāni janma
Thus the poets, courageous and knower of ṛta, dispersed the wealth and the movable goods. With hymns and thoughts the Brahmins milked forth the divine births.

ए॒वा प्ल॒तेः सू॒नुर॑वीवृधद्वो॒ विश्व॑ आदित्या अदिते मनी॒षी । ई॒शा॒नासो॒ नरो॒ अम॑र्त्ये॒नास्ता॑वि॒ जनो॑ दि॒व्यो गये॑न
evā plateḥ sūnuravīvṛdhadvo viśva ādityā adite manīṣī īśānāso naro amartyenāstāvi jano divyo gayena
Thus the offspring of Plate grew like a son, all the Adityas, the wise. From the immortal man their rulers—these people sang the heavenly songs with inspired voice.
