प्र वो॑ य॒ह्वं पु॑रू॒णां वि॒शां दे॑वय॒तीना॑म् । अ॒ग्निं सू॒क्तेभि॒र्वचो॑भिरीमहे॒ यं सी॒मिद॒न्य ईळ॑ते
pra vo yahvaṃ purūṇāṃ viśāṃ devayatīnām agniṃ sūktebhirvacobhirīmahe yaṃ sīmidanya īḷate
We invoke you, O Yajna, lord of the manifold people, among the gods: we speak Agni with the hymns, whom now another singer calls with hymn-speech.

जना॑सो अ॒ग्निं द॑धिरे सहो॒वृधं॑ ह॒विष्म॑न्तो विधेम ते । स त्वं नो॑ अ॒द्य सु॒मना॑ इ॒हावि॒ता भवा॒ वाजे॑षु सन्त्य
janāso agniṃ dadhire sahovṛdhaṃ haviṣmanto vidhema te sa tvaṃ no adya sumanā ihāvitā bhavā vājeṣu santya
People have placed Agni together with their offerings, increasing the oblation; grant us today a kindly, rich-minded portion here among the riches.

pra tvā dūtaṃ vṛṇīmahe hotāraṃ viśvavedasam mahaste sato vi carantyarcayo divi spṛśanti bhānavaḥ
We choose for you a messenger, the hotar, knower of all; great are your laws: rites move around you, heavenly beams touch you.

दे॒वास॑स्त्वा॒ वरु॑णो मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा सं दू॒तं प्र॒त्नमि॑न्धते । विश्वं॒ सो अ॑ग्ने जयति॒ त्वया॒ धनं॒ यस्ते॑ द॒दाश॒ मर्त्यः॑
devāsastvā varuṇo mitro aryamā saṃ dūtaṃ pratnamindhate viśvaṃ so agne jayati tvayā dhanaṃ yaste dadāśa martyaḥ
The gods Varuna and Mitra and Aryaman set forth a messenger and bind him to tasks. All this Agni wins for you—the wealth that mortals grant to you.

म॒न्द्रो होता॑ गृ॒हप॑ति॒रग्ने॑ दू॒तो वि॒शाम॑सि । त्वे विश्वा॒ संग॑तानि व्र॒ता ध्रु॒वा यानि॑ दे॒वा अकृ॑ण्वत
mandro hotā gṛhapatiragne dūto viśāmasi tve viśvā saṃgatāni vratā dhruvā yāni devā akṛṇvata
Agni, lord of the house, the slow-moving priest, you are sent as messenger among the peoples. You uphold all assembled ordinances that the gods established firmly.

त्वे इद॑ग्ने सु॒भगे॑ यविष्ठ्य॒ विश्व॒मा हू॑यते ह॒विः । स त्वं नो॑ अ॒द्य सु॒मना॑ उ॒ताप॒रं यक्षि॑ दे॒वान्सु॒वीर्या॑
tve idagne subhage yaviṣṭhya viśvamā hūyate haviḥ sa tvaṃ no adya sumanā utāparaṃ yakṣi devānsuvīryā
O Agni, excellent, when sacrifice is offered you are invoked everywhere; be today our kindly protector, guard the gods with victorious might.

तं घे॑मि॒त्था न॑म॒स्विन॒ उप॑ स्व॒राज॑मासते । होत्रा॑भिर॒ग्निं मनु॑षः॒ समि॑न्धते तिति॒र्वांसो॒ अति॒ स्रिधः॑
taṃ ghemitthā namasvina upa svarājamāsate hotrābhiragniṃ manuṣaḥ samindhate titirvāṃso ati sridhaḥ
I bring that oblation; may the Nasatya place homage and come to the sovereign seat. With offerings the man adorns Agni; lively ministers run over abundant wealth.

घ्नन्तो॑ वृ॒त्रम॑तर॒न्रोद॑सी अ॒प उ॒रु क्षया॑य चक्रिरे । भुव॒त्कण्वे॒ वृषा॑ द्यु॒म्न्याहु॑तः॒ क्रन्द॒दश्वो॒ गवि॑ष्टिषु
ghnanto vṛtramataranrodasī apa uru kṣayāya cakrire bhuvatkaṇve vṛṣā dyumnyāhutaḥ krandadaśvo gaviṣṭiṣu
They struck down the mighty Vrtra, the obstructer; with abundant rain they curbed drought and wide decay. In Kanva’s line the bulls of heaven were smitten, neighing chariots and steeds in best strength.

सं सी॑दस्व म॒हाँ अ॑सि॒ शोच॑स्व देव॒वीत॑मः । वि धू॒मम॑ग्ने अरु॒षं मि॑येध्य सृ॒ज प्र॑शस्त दर्श॒तम्
saṃ sīdasva mahām̐ asi śocasva devavītamaḥ vi dhūmamagne aruṣaṃ miyedhya sṛja praśasta darśatam
Settle down, you great one; be calm, O possessor of divine strength. Agni, disperse the smoke; bring out what is serene, create and show excellent sight.

yaṃ tvā devāso manave dadhuriha yajiṣṭhaṃ havyavāhana yaṃ kaṇvo medhyātithirdhanaspṛtaṃ yaṃ vṛṣā yamupastutaḥ
Which of you gods set you among men here, chief of offerings and bearer of oblations? Which Kanvas, rich in gifts, came near you with bulls from the herd?

यम॒ग्निं मेध्या॑तिथिः॒ कण्व॑ ई॒ध ऋ॒तादधि॑ । तस्य॒ प्रेषो॑ दीदियु॒स्तमि॒मा ऋच॒स्तम॒ग्निं व॑र्धयामसि
yamagniṃ medhyātithiḥ kaṇva īdha ṛtādadhi tasya preṣo dīdiyustamimā ṛcastamagniṃ vardhayāmasi
O Agni, may the hospitable Kanva, the wise guest, the supporter of Ṛta, be favorable to me. May this hymn send forth that Agni; may you, Agni, increase him.

rāyaspūrdhi svadhāvo'sti hi te'gne deveṣvāpyam tvaṃ vājasya śrutyasya rājasi sa no mṛḷa mahām̐ asi
The draughts of praise and libation are indeed for you, O Agni, among the gods. You are the sovereign of heard reward; be gracious to us, O mighty one.

ऊ॒र्ध्व ऊ॒ षु ण॑ ऊ॒तये॒ तिष्ठा॑ दे॒वो न स॑वि॒ता । ऊ॒र्ध्वो वाज॑स्य॒ सनि॑ता॒ यद॒ञ्जिभि॑र्वा॒घद्भि॑र्वि॒ह्वया॑महे
ūrdhva ū ṣu ṇa ūtaye tiṣṭhā devo na savitā ūrdhvo vājasya sanitā yadañjibhirvāghadbhirvihvayāmahe
Stand upward, ascend, O god Savitar. Upward is the voice of sacrifice, the loftier shout which we utter with lips, with sounds and with ecstatic cry.

ऊ॒र्ध्वो नः॑ पा॒ह्यंह॑सो॒ नि के॒तुना॒ विश्वं॒ सम॒त्रिणं॑ दह । कृ॒धी न॑ ऊ॒र्ध्वाञ्च॒रथा॑य जी॒वसे॑ वि॒दा दे॒वेषु॑ नो॒ दुवः॑
ūrdhvo naḥ pāhyaṃhaso ni ketunā viśvaṃ samatriṇaṃ daha kṛdhī na ūrdhvāñcarathāya jīvase vidā deveṣu no duvaḥ
Protect us upward; with what banner burn up the manifold world? Work upward like a charioteer and live; grant us fame among the gods, not sorrow.

pāhi no agne rakṣasaḥ pāhi dhūrterarāvṇaḥ pāhi rīṣata uta vā jighāṃsato bṛhadbhāno yaviṣṭhya
Guard us, Agni, from evil spirits; guard us from fraud and from the robber who envies. Guard against truculence and against the proud fierce one, O great-shining, most excellent.

घ॒नेव॒ विष्व॒ग्वि ज॒ह्यरा॑व्ण॒स्तपु॑र्जम्भ॒ यो अ॑स्म॒ध्रुक् । यो मर्त्यः॒ शिशी॑ते॒ अत्य॒क्तुभि॒र्मा नः॒ स रि॒पुरी॑शत
ghaneva viṣvagvi jahyarāvṇastapurjambha yo asmadhruk yo martyaḥ śiśīte atyaktubhirmā naḥ sa ripurīśata
Dense with hosts, the robber-foe Jambha burns; he who struck at us with mortal might is crushed. The man who cherishes killing is not ours—he is routed and driven from the fortress.

अ॒ग्निर्व॑व्ने सु॒वीर्य॑म॒ग्निः कण्वा॑य॒ सौभ॑गम् । अ॒ग्निः प्राव॑न्मि॒त्रोत मेध्या॑तिथिम॒ग्निः सा॒ता उ॑पस्तु॒तम्
agnirvavne suvīryamagniḥ kaṇvāya saubhagam agniḥ prāvanmitrota medhyātithimagniḥ sātā upastutam
Agni, you are our celebrated hero, Agni, the auspicious Kanva’s glory. Agni, come forth to the honored guest; Agni, may you be seated near the praise.

अ॒ग्निना॑ तु॒र्वशं॒ यदुं॑ परा॒वत॑ उ॒ग्रादे॑वं हवामहे । अ॒ग्निर्न॑य॒न्नव॑वास्त्वं बृ॒हद्र॑थं तु॒र्वीतिं॒ दस्य॑वे॒ सहः॑
agninā turvaśaṃ yaduṃ parāvata ugrādevaṃ havāmahe agnirnayannavavāstvaṃ bṛhadrathaṃ turvītiṃ dasyave sahaḥ
By Agni we invoke the threefold might that goes before, even the fierce one; we offer the hymn. Agni leads the new centuries; you, with broad chariot, drive forth the troop of the Dasyus together.

नि त्वाम॑ग्ने॒ मनु॑र्दधे॒ ज्योति॒र्जना॑य॒ शश्व॑ते । दी॒देथ॒ कण्व॑ ऋ॒तजा॑त उक्षि॒तो यं न॑म॒स्यन्ति॑ कृ॒ष्टयः॑
ni tvāmagne manurdadhe jyotirjanāya śaśvate dīdetha kaṇva ṛtajāta ukṣito yaṃ namasyanti kṛṣṭayaḥ
O Agni, the Manu placed you, shining light, for the people to endure. Kanva, born of Ṛta, bestowed the hymn to him whom the vigorous ones revere.

त्वे॒षासो॑ अ॒ग्नेरम॑वन्तो अ॒र्चयो॑ भी॒मासो॒ न प्रती॑तये । र॒क्ष॒स्विनः॒ सद॒मिद्या॑तु॒माव॑तो॒ विश्वं॒ सम॒त्रिणं॑ दह
tveṣāso agneramavanto arcayo bhīmāso na pratītaye rakṣasvinaḥ sadamidyātumāvato viśvaṃ samatriṇaṃ daha
Those of Agni’s kindred are your worshippers; your terrible ones do not appear to me. Protect us so that this dwelling may be well; burn up the whole world together with the foe.
