अ॒ग्निरु॒क्थे पु॒रोहि॑तो॒ ग्रावा॑णो ब॒र्हिर॑ध्व॒रे । ऋ॒चा या॑मि म॒रुतो॒ ब्रह्म॑ण॒स्पतिं॑ दे॒वाँ अवो॒ वरे॑ण्यम्
agnirukthe purohito grāvāṇo barhiradhvare ṛcā yāmi maruto brahmaṇaspatiṃ devām̐ avo vareṇyam
Agni, the priest in the hymn, the herdsman, the open‑roarer, I praise Marut, Brahmanaspati, the gods' glorious protector, best among the waters.

आ प॒शुं गा॑सि पृथि॒वीं वन॒स्पती॑नु॒षासा॒ नक्त॒मोष॑धीः । विश्वे॑ च नो वसवो विश्ववेदसो धी॒नां भू॑त प्रावि॒तारः॑
ā paśuṃ gāsi pṛthivīṃ vanaspatīnuṣāsā naktamoṣadhīḥ viśve ca no vasavo viśvavedaso dhīnāṃ bhūta prāvitāraḥ
Bring cattle, bring the herds, earth and forest‑lords, nocturnal herbs; all Vasus, the knowing ones, invaders of beings, come to us.

pra sū na etvadhvaro3'gnā deveṣu pūrvyaḥ ādityeṣu pra varuṇe dhṛtavrate marutsu viśvabhānuṣu
May the priestly Agni go forth among the gods; among the Adityas and Varuna he dwells, firm in vow, like the Maruts, mighty in all forms.

विश्वे॒ हि ष्मा॒ मन॑वे वि॒श्ववे॑दसो॒ भुव॑न्वृ॒धे रि॒शाद॑सः । अरि॑ष्टेभिः पा॒युभि॑र्विश्ववेदसो॒ यन्ता॑ नोऽवृ॒कं छ॒र्दिः
viśve hi ṣmā manave viśvavedaso bhuvanvṛdhe riśādasaḥ ariṣṭebhiḥ pāyubhirviśvavedaso yantā no'vṛkaṃ chardiḥ
All indeed are the heroes, the sages, the wise Vasus, enriching the world; may the Vasus, with protective hymns, drive off harm from us, restraining the hostile utterance.

आ नो॑ अ॒द्य सम॑नसो॒ गन्ता॒ विश्वे॑ स॒जोष॑सः । ऋ॒चा गि॒रा मरु॑तो॒ देव्यदि॑ते॒ सद॑ने॒ पस्त्ये॑ महि
ā no adya samanaso gantā viśve sajoṣasaḥ ṛcā girā maruto devyadite sadane pastye mahi
Today come to us with your harmonious chants, O all‑joyful ones; the song, the speech of Marut, O deity‑lifted, shall sit in the dwelling upon the earth.

अ॒भि प्रि॒या म॑रुतो॒ या वो॒ अश्व्या॑ ह॒व्या मि॑त्र प्रया॒थन॑ । आ ब॒र्हिरिन्द्रो॒ वरु॑णस्तु॒रा नर॑ आदि॒त्यासः॑ सदन्तु नः
abhi priyā maruto yā vo aśvyā havyā mitra prayāthana ā barhirindro varuṇasturā nara ādityāsaḥ sadantu naḥ
Marut, beloved, to you who are horsed and invoked first, O Indra, Varuna, Tura, Nar and Adityas, be gracious to us; may they sit with us at the offering.

व॒यं वो॑ वृ॒क्तब॑र्हिषो हि॒तप्र॑यस आनु॒षक् । सु॒तसो॑मासो वरुण हवामहे मनु॒ष्वदि॒द्धाग्न॑यः
vayaṃ vo vṛktabarhiṣo hitaprayasa ānuṣak sutasomāso varuṇa havāmahe manuṣvadiddhāgnayaḥ
We, with wrapped‑together hymns, laud the beneficial ones; the Soma‑drinkers and Varuna we invoke, those kindled around the sacrificial fire.

आ प्र या॑त॒ मरु॑तो॒ विष्णो॒ अश्वि॑ना॒ पूष॒न्माकी॑नया धि॒या । इन्द्र॒ आ या॑तु प्रथ॒मः स॑नि॒ष्युभि॒र्वृषा॒ यो वृ॑त्र॒हा गृ॒णे
ā pra yāta maruto viṣṇo aśvinā pūṣanmākīnayā dhiyā indra ā yātu prathamaḥ saniṣyubhirvṛṣā yo vṛtrahā gṛṇe
May Marut, Vishnu, Ashvins, and Pūṣan come near with guiding insight; Indra, come first to us with victorious bulls who slew Vritra, I call.

वि नो॑ देवासो अद्रु॒होऽच्छि॑द्रं॒ शर्म॑ यच्छत । न यद्दू॒राद्व॑सवो॒ नू चि॒दन्ति॑तो॒ वरू॑थमाद॒धर्ष॑ति
vi no devāso adruho'cchidraṃ śarma yacchata na yaddūrādvasavo nū cidantito varūthamādadharṣati
The gods have bound not an unpierced guard; the Vasus do not pierce from afar; they uplift the covering that had been fixed.

अस्ति॒ हि वः॑ सजा॒त्यं॑ रिशादसो॒ देवा॑सो॒ अस्त्याप्य॑म् । प्र णः॒ पूर्व॑स्मै सुवि॒ताय॑ वोचत म॒क्षू सु॒म्नाय॒ नव्य॑से
asti hi vaḥ sajātyaṃ riśādaso devāso astyāpyam pra ṇaḥ pūrvasmai suvitāya vocata makṣū sumnāya navyase
Truly there is kinship, O sages, between the hosts of gods and men even now; to the ancient one first they spoke for well‑being: healthy, strong, renewed.

इ॒दा हि व॒ उप॑स्तुतिमि॒दा वा॒मस्य॑ भ॒क्तये॑ । उप॑ वो विश्ववेदसो नम॒स्युराँ असृ॒क्ष्यन्या॑मिव
idā hi va upastutimidā vāmasya bhaktaye upa vo viśvavedaso namasyurām̐ asṛkṣyanyāmiva
This praise indeed I set forth for your service; to you, all‑knowing, we bow with homage, as if weaving fresh rites.

उदु॒ ष्य वः॑ सवि॒ता सु॑प्रणीत॒योऽस्था॑दू॒र्ध्वो वरे॑ण्यः । नि द्वि॒पाद॒श्चतु॑ष्पादो अ॒र्थिनोऽवि॑श्रन्पतयि॒ष्णवः॑
udu ṣya vaḥ savitā supraṇītayo'sthādūrdhvo vareṇyaḥ ni dvipādaścatuṣpādo arthino'viśranpatayiṣṇavaḥ
May Savita with lifted face come to you, upraised, most excellent; two‑footed and four‑footed, the seekers of wealth long for rest in the lordly place.

दे॒वंदे॑वं॒ वोऽव॑से दे॒वंदे॑वम॒भिष्ट॑ये । दे॒वंदे॑वं हुवेम॒ वाज॑सातये गृ॒णन्तो॑ दे॒व्या धि॒या
devaṃdevaṃ vo'vase devaṃdevamabhiṣṭaye devaṃdevaṃ huvema vājasātaye gṛṇanto devyā dhiyā
May the god of gods come to you, may the god of gods accomplish your desire. May we speak the god of gods, invoking strength with praises, O divine minds.

दे॒वासो॒ हि ष्मा॒ मन॑वे॒ सम॑न्यवो॒ विश्वे॑ सा॒कं सरा॑तयः । ते नो॑ अ॒द्य ते अ॑प॒रं तु॒चे तु नो॒ भव॑न्तु वरिवो॒विदः॑
devāso hi ṣmā manave samanyavo viśve sākaṃ sarātayaḥ te no adya te aparaṃ tuce tu no bhavantu varivovidaḥ
The gods indeed are our strength, allied with men, all swiftly flowing rivers. May they be ours today and again tomorrow; may they become for us knowledgeable benefactors.

प्र वः॑ शंसाम्यद्रुहः सं॒स्थ उप॑स्तुतीनाम् । न तं धू॒र्तिर्व॑रुण मित्र॒ मर्त्यं॒ यो वो॒ धाम॒भ्योऽवि॑धत्
pra vaḥ śaṃsāmyadruhaḥ saṃstha upastutīnām na taṃ dhūrtirvaruṇa mitra martyaṃ yo vo dhāmabhyo'vidhat
I praise for you the bold, the supporters of praise; may not deceit, Varuṇa or Mitra, harm the mortal who protects your dwelling.

प्र स क्षयं॑ तिरते॒ वि म॒हीरिषो॒ यो वो॒ वरा॑य॒ दाश॑ति । प्र प्र॒जाभि॑र्जायते॒ धर्म॑ण॒स्पर्यरि॑ष्टः॒ सर्व॑ एधते
pra sa kṣayaṃ tirate vi mahīriṣo yo vo varāya dāśati pra prajābhirjāyate dharmaṇasparyariṣṭaḥ sarva edhate
May destruction pass away where the kings of earth strive, he who grants you bounty. From the progeny arises law; the protector who removes foes, he allots riches.

ऋ॒ते स वि॑न्दते यु॒धः सु॒गेभि॑र्या॒त्यध्व॑नः । अ॒र्य॒मा मि॒त्रो वरु॑णः॒ सरा॑तयो॒ यं त्राय॑न्ते स॒जोष॑सः
ṛte sa vindate yudhaḥ sugebhiryātyadhvanaḥ aryamā mitro varuṇaḥ sarātayo yaṃ trāyante sajoṣasaḥ
In battle one finds, with great cries, victory; Aryamā, Mitra, Varuṇa, the swift ones who guard the chariot, those who protect the allies.

अज्रे॑ चिदस्मै कृणुथा॒ न्यञ्च॑नं दु॒र्गे चि॒दा सु॑सर॒णम् । ए॒षा चि॑दस्माद॒शनिः॑ प॒रो नु सास्रे॑धन्ती॒ वि न॑श्यतु
ajre cidasmai kṛṇuthā nyañcanaṃ durge cidā susaraṇam eṣā cidasmādaśaniḥ paro nu sāsredhantī vi naśyatu
Make for him undying life and also a fortress and a safe refuge. This life, the bright Śani, may it not perish, but abide for us as a protector.

यद॒द्य सूर्य॑ उद्य॒ति प्रिय॑क्षत्रा ऋ॒तं द॒ध । यन्नि॒म्रुचि॑ प्र॒बुधि॑ विश्ववेदसो॒ यद्वा॑ म॒ध्यंदि॑ने दि॒वः
yadadya sūrya udyati priyakṣatrā ṛtaṃ dadha yannimruci prabudhi viśvavedaso yadvā madhyaṃdine divaḥ
When the sun rises today, O auspicious stars, establish the order. When the all-knowing awakener shone or when the sky was in the midst of day.

यद्वा॑भिपि॒त्वे अ॑सुरा ऋ॒तं य॒ते छ॒र्दिर्ये॒म वि दा॒शुषे॑ । व॒यं तद्वो॑ वसवो विश्ववेदस॒ उप॑ स्थेयाम॒ मध्य॒ आ
yadvābhipitve asurā ṛtaṃ yate chardiryema vi dāśuṣe vayaṃ tadvo vasavo viśvavedasa upa stheyāma madhya ā
If the Asuras have violated the order you set, if they have gored the cows of the sacrificers, we, O Vasus, the all-knowing, stand before you in the midst.

यद॒द्य सूर॒ उदि॑ते॒ यन्म॒ध्यंदि॑न आ॒तुचि॑ । वा॒मं ध॒त्थ मन॑वे विश्ववेदसो॒ जुह्वा॑नाय॒ प्रचे॑तसे
yadadya sūra udite yanmadhyaṃdina ātuci vāmaṃ dhattha manave viśvavedaso juhvānāya pracetase
When today the sun arises, and when he is in the midst of day, place to the left the oblation for Manava, O all-knowing, for the invoked one’s praise.

व॒यं तद्वः॑ सम्राज॒ आ वृ॑णीमहे पु॒त्रो न ब॑हु॒पाय्य॑म् । अ॒श्याम॒ तदा॑दित्या॒ जुह्व॑तो ह॒विर्येन॒ वस्यो॒ऽनशा॑महै
vayaṃ tadvaḥ samrāja ā vṛṇīmahe putro na bahupāyyam aśyāma tadādityā juhvato haviryena vasyo'naśāmahai
We choose you as sovereigns; a son not hard to obtain. Then, when the Aditi-Borns sacrificed, with the oblation and the clarified butter they became our possessors.
