Do not ever praise another’s rival, O companions; do not restrain the seer. Praise Indra’s homage, the bull’s might, and sing; repeatedly praise the revered song.

अ॒व॒क्र॒क्षिणं॑ वृष॒भं य॑था॒जुरं॒ गां न च॑र्षणी॒सह॑म् । वि॒द्वेष॑णं सं॒वन॑नोभयंक॒रं मंहि॑ष्ठमुभया॒विन॑म्
avakrakṣiṇaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ yathājuraṃ gāṃ na carṣaṇīsaham vidveṣaṇaṃ saṃvananobhayaṃkaraṃ maṃhiṣṭhamubhayāvinam
Do not pluck the bull like a tree; do not carry away the pair as if with a threshing-board. Let not enmity divide the twofold praise; let the mighty of both sides be strong together.

yacciddhi tvā janā ime nānā havanta ūtaye asmākaṃ brahmedamindra bhūtu te'hā viśvā ca vardhanam
If these people have your victory, many different offerings are brought forth. May my Brahman and Indra be yours; may all your growth be increased.

vi tartūryante maghavanvipaścito'ryo vipo janānām upa kramasva pururūpamā bhara vājaṃ nediṣṭhamūtaye
The generous one goes forth, wealthy, noble among peoples. Advance, take your place, O most form-bearing; bear the prize to the desired place.

mahe cana tvāmadrivaḥ parā śulkāya deyām na sahasrāya nāyutāya vajrivo na śatāya śatāmagha
O great one, grant us a share beyond the price of goods. Not by thousands nor by tens are prizes counted—O Vaisravanas, not by a hundred of hundreds.

vasyām̐ indrāsi me pituruta bhrāturabhuñjataḥ mātā ca me chadayathaḥ samā vaso vasutvanāya rādhase
You are Indra among friends and like a father to me; partake as brother. Cover my mother; grant unity, dwelling in riches for the generous one’s favor.

kveyatha kvedasi purutrā ciddhi te manaḥ alarṣi yudhma khajakṛtpuraṃdara pra gāyatrā agāsiṣuḥ
Where, or what is your mind, O hero? The famed warrior, remover of obstacles, fought and the singers invoked the Gayatri and proclaimed blessings.

prāsmai gāyatramarcata vāvāturyaḥ puraṃdaraḥ yābhiḥ kāṇvasyopa barhirāsadaṃ yāsadvajrī bhinatpuraḥ
May Gayatri protect him; may Purandara guard him; by whose rites Kanva’s offspring have driven away the hostile forces, shattering the city.

Those who are ten-thousandfold, those who are hundreds, those who are thousands—these are your steeds, O Vrishṇa; praise the swift Raghu-driver.

Now I pour the full-milked oblation to Gayatri: Indra, the cow, drawn from abundant milch-cows, with flesh and strength fashioned, accept it.

As the sun rose, its curved leaf of the wind—may Arjuna, O Shatakratu, carry this spread of fragrant Soma with him.

ya ṛte cidabhiśriṣaḥ purā jatrubhya ātṛdaḥ saṃdhātā saṃdhiṃ maghavā purūvasuriṣkartā vihrutaṃ punaḥ
He who in former times, the mighty sacrificer, with hosts went to the worshippers and makers of vows—Maghavan, establisher of union, creator of early heroes, again fashioned the praised.

मा भू॑म॒ निष्ट्या॑ इ॒वेन्द्र॒ त्वदर॑णा इव । वना॑नि॒ न प्र॑जहि॒तान्य॑द्रिवो दु॒रोषा॑सो अमन्महि
mā bhūma niṣṭyā ivendra tvadaraṇā iva vanāni na prajahitānyadrivo duroṣāso amanmahi
Do not let the earth be firmly set like Indra’s stern vow; let not the forests be hurt, nor the people harmed by the distant calamity.—O great one, do not afflict us.

amanmahīdanāśavo'nugrāsaśca vṛtrahan sakṛtsu te mahatā śūra rādhasā anu stomaṃ mudīmahi
Those destroyers of the earth, followers of aggression, slew Vritra; by thy great might, heroes praised, let us rejoice with a fitting hymn.

यदि॒ स्तोमं॒ मम॒ श्रव॑द॒स्माक॒मिन्द्र॒मिन्द॑वः । ति॒रः प॒वित्रं॑ ससृ॒वांस॑ आ॒शवो॒ मन्द॑न्तु तुग्र्या॒वृधः॑
yadi stomaṃ mama śravadasmākamindramindavaḥ tiraḥ pavitraṃ sasṛvāṃsa āśavo mandantu tugryāvṛdhaḥ
If they hear our hymn, may the Indra-like gods be pleased; let the ritual be pure, let the oblations flow, and may the potent ones be propitious with strong growth.

ā tva1dya sadhastutiṃ vāvātuḥ sakhyurā gahi upastutirmaghonāṃ pra tvāvatvadhā te vaśmi suṣṭutim
Now may he accept praise; O friends, take it up. Be thou protector of the praised Maghavan—I am thine, controlling praise rightly.

सोता॒ हि सोम॒मद्रि॑भि॒रेमे॑नम॒प्सु धा॑वत । ग॒व्या वस्त्रे॑व वा॒सय॑न्त॒ इन्नरो॒ निर्धु॑क्षन्व॒क्षणा॑भ्यः
sotā hi somamadribhiremenamapsu dhāvata gavyā vastreva vāsayanta innaro nirdhukṣanvakṣaṇābhyaḥ
The Soma-pressers poured Soma from the waters; they clothed men in cow-hide or in garments; they supplied for the moments of hardship.

indrāya su madintamaṃ somaṃ sotā vareṇyam śakra eṇaṃ pīpayadviśvayā dhiyā hinvānaṃ na vājayum
To Indra be the sweet, full Soma—may the pressers pour it forth with blessing. Make this draught, O Shakra, to conquer foes, not to be vanquished.

mā tvā somasya galdayā sadā yācannahaṃ girā bhūrṇiṃ mṛgaṃ na savaneṣu cukrudhaṃ ka īśānaṃ na yāciṣat
Do not, by gulping Soma, always beg of me, O tongue; I do not seize the full herd, nor does the powerful lord ask what he did not seek.

madeneṣitaṃ madamugramugreṇa śavasā viśveṣāṃ tarutāraṃ madacyutaṃ made hi ṣmā dadāti naḥ
I have drunk of thy strong drink, potent one, with vigour and breath. Thou, unconquered by drink, givest us the strength that sustains all trees.

शेवा॑रे॒ वार्या॑ पु॒रु दे॒वो मर्ता॑य दा॒शुषे॑ । स सु॑न्व॒ते च॑ स्तुव॒ते च॑ रासते वि॒श्वगू॑र्तो अरिष्टु॒तः
śevāre vāryā puru devo martāya dāśuṣe sa sunvate ca stuvate ca rāsate viśvagūrto ariṣṭutaḥ
Ever to be served, the excellent giver gives to mortals tenfold. He is praised and he praises; wide-reaching, he removes misfortune.

endra yāhi matsva citreṇa deva rādhasā saro na prāsyudaraṃ sapītibhirā somebhiruru sphiram
Come hither, Indra, with thy splendid chariot, O giver of delight. Let rivers flow to the heart with Soma-drinkers; make the cows low and move onward.

May a thousand and a hundred thousand chariots harnessed with gold carry thee, Brahmayuja; let Indra of flowing locks bear thee to the Soma-drinking.

ā tvā rathe hiraṇyaye harī mayūraśepyā śitipṛṣṭhā vahatāṃ madhvo andhaso vivakṣaṇasya pītaye
May golden-charioted ones, with peacock-plumes, carry thee; may the sweet mead-bearers bear thee, O radiant one, to the draught for the bold.

pibā tva1sya girvaṇaḥ sutasya pūrvapā iva pariṣkṛtasya rasina iyamāsutiścārurmadāya patyate
Drink, O singer, like one who first praises; for the clarified juice, as of a polished one, these songs are for the delight of ardour and charm.

य एको॒ अस्ति॑ दं॒सना॑ म॒हाँ उ॒ग्रो अ॒भि व्र॒तैः । गम॒त्स शि॒प्री न स यो॑ष॒दा ग॑म॒द्धवं॒ न परि॑ वर्जति
ya eko asti daṃsanā mahām̐ ugro abhi vrataiḥ gamatsa śiprī na sa yoṣadā gamaddhavaṃ na pari varjati
One who alone is fierce in bite, greatly mighty by vows, the bold went; the stealthy one did not approach Sipri; he did not refrain from seizing wealth.

त्वं पुरं॑ चरि॒ष्ण्वं॑ व॒धैः शुष्ण॑स्य॒ सं पि॑णक् । त्वं भा अनु॑ चरो॒ अध॑ द्वि॒ता यदि॑न्द्र॒ हव्यो॒ भुवः॑
tvaṃ puraṃ cariṣṇvaṃ vadhaiḥ śuṣṇasya saṃ piṇak tvaṃ bhā anu caro adha dvitā yadindra havyo bhuvaḥ
You move through the town, the slayer of the dried—O Pīṇaka. You go following light, like the twofold priestly oblation, to the world’s sacrifice.

मम॑ त्वा॒ सूर॒ उदि॑ते॒ मम॑ म॒ध्यंदि॑ने दि॒वः । मम॑ प्रपि॒त्वे अ॑पिशर्व॒रे व॑स॒वा स्तोमा॑सो अवृत्सत
mama tvā sūra udite mama madhyaṃdine divaḥ mama prapitve apiśarvare vasavā stomāso avṛtsata
When the sun rose for me, when the heaven stood mid-day for me, the streams of the wide-flowing waters filled my libation; the Vasus covered the hymn with protection.

stuhi stuhīdete ghā te maṃhiṣṭhāso maghonām ninditāśvaḥ prapathī paramajyā maghasya medhyātithe
Praise, praise these—heaped for you, O wheel-bearers, like abundant hosts. The horse-bringers, exulting, proceed; may the foremost guest of Makh be glorious to me.

ā yadaśvānvananvataḥ śraddhayāhaṃ rathe ruham uta vāmasya vasunaściketati yo asti yādvaḥ paśuḥ
I enter the chariot with faith as horses follow their leader. Whether it is the good of the left or the wealthy one on the right—what is that which is a cattle to you?

य ऋ॒ज्रा मह्यं॑ माम॒हे स॒ह त्व॒चा हि॑र॒ण्यया॑ । ए॒ष विश्वा॑न्य॒भ्य॑स्तु॒ सौभ॑गास॒ङ्गस्य॑ स्व॒नद्र॑थः
ya ṛjrā mahyaṃ māmahe saha tvacā hiraṇyayā eṣa viśvānyabhyastu saubhagāsaṅgasya svanadrathaḥ
What is straight to me, you made me; with you is the gold-hued skin. This one from all men is the bringer of prosperity, the chariot-driver of the gleaming host.

adha plāyogirati dāsadanyānāsaṅgo agne daśabhiḥ sahasraiḥ adhokṣaṇo daśa mahyaṃ ruśanto naḷā iva saraso niratiṣṭhan
The lower fire blazes, unjoined by others, O Agni, with tens of thousands. Below the regions tenfold rush toward me, like reeds standing in a stream.

अन्व॑स्य स्थू॒रं द॑दृशे पु॒रस्ता॑दन॒स्थ ऊ॒रुर॑व॒रम्ब॑माणः । शश्व॑ती॒ नार्य॑भि॒चक्ष्या॑ह॒ सुभ॑द्रमर्य॒ भोज॑नं बिभर्षि
anvasya sthūraṃ dadṛśe purastādanastha ūruravarambamāṇaḥ śaśvatī nāryabhicakṣyāha subhadramarya bhojanaṃ bibharṣi
I beheld its strong forepart, the unshaken front and the swelling thigh. I looked on noble women; auspicious fruitfulness filled the feast.
