इन्द्र॒ सोमं॑ सोमपते॒ पिबे॒मं माध्यं॑दिनं॒ सव॑नं॒ चारु॒ यत्ते॑ । प्र॒प्रुथ्या॒ शिप्रे॑ मघवन्नृजीषिन्वि॒मुच्या॒ हरी॑ इ॒ह मा॑दयस्व
indra somaṃ somapate pibemaṃ mādhyaṃdinaṃ savanaṃ cāru yatte prapruthyā śipre maghavannṛjīṣinvimucyā harī iha mādayasva
Indra, drink Soma, Lord of Soma, this mid‑day poured offering, fair and yours. Swiftly, with heroic zeal, release the hasted generous one; O stealer of foes, here delight us.

gavāśiraṃ manthinamindra śukraṃ pibā somaṃ rarimā te madāya brahmakṛtā mārutenā gaṇena sajoṣā rudraistṛpadā vṛṣasva
Drink the Soma, Indra, bright as the steed’s head of cows—imbibed by Maruts, made by Brahma’s doing; with the host of Maruts and Rudras, prosper and be of threefold might, bull of strength.

ये ते॒ शुष्मं॒ ये तवि॑षी॒मव॑र्ध॒न्नर्च॑न्त इन्द्र म॒रुत॑स्त॒ ओजः॑ । माध्यं॑दिने॒ सव॑ने वज्रहस्त॒ पिबा॑ रु॒द्रेभिः॒ सग॑णः सुशिप्र
ye te śuṣmaṃ ye taviṣīmavardhannarcanta indra marutasta ojaḥ mādhyaṃdine savane vajrahasta pibā rudrebhiḥ sagaṇaḥ suśipra
Those who increased your might and those who quickened the poisonous, the Maruts and Indra perform sacrifice with vigour. At mid‑day in praise let the thunder‑handed Soma be drunk with Rudras and the swift‑armed host.

त इन्न्व॑स्य॒ मधु॑मद्विविप्र॒ इन्द्र॑स्य॒ शर्धो॑ म॒रुतो॒ य आस॑न् । येभि॑र्वृ॒त्रस्ये॑षि॒तो वि॒वेदा॑म॒र्मणो॒ मन्य॑मानस्य॒ मर्म॑
ta innvasya madhumadvivipra indrasya śardho maruto ya āsan yebhirvṛtrasyeṣito vivedāmarmaṇo manyamānasya marma
He poured the honeyed drink into Indra; with Maruts’ backing he sat as hero. Those who in Vritra’s straits knew the hidden purpose pierced the secret of the thoughtful one.

म॒नु॒ष्वदि॑न्द्र॒ सव॑नं जुषा॒णः पिबा॒ सोमं॒ शश्व॑ते वी॒र्या॑य । स आ व॑वृत्स्व हर्यश्व य॒ज्ञैः स॑र॒ण्युभि॑र॒पो अर्णा॑ सिसर्षि
manuṣvadindra savanaṃ juṣāṇaḥ pibā somaṃ śaśvate vīryāya sa ā vavṛtsva haryaśva yajñaiḥ saraṇyubhirapo arṇā sisarṣi
Indra, pour Soma, O libator, for human folk, that strength may endure forever. Unveil heroic bounty with rites; let the rivers bear us onward to refuge.

त्वम॒पो यद्ध॑ वृ॒त्रं ज॑घ॒न्वाँ अत्या॑ँ इव॒ प्रासृ॑जः॒ सर्त॒वाजौ । शया॑नमिन्द्र॒ चर॑ता व॒धेन॑ वव्रि॒वांसं॒ परि॑ दे॒वीरदे॑वम्
tvamapo yaddha vṛtraṃ jaghanvām̐ atyām̐ iva prāsṛjaḥ sartavājau śayānamindra caratā vadhena vavrivāṃsaṃ pari devīradevam
You, Waters, who smote Vritra, cast him away like a stone; as Indra moved in slumber he slew, overturning multitudes; around the gods and goddesses he ranged with destroying might.

यजा॑म॒ इन्नम॑सा वृ॒द्धमिन्द्रं॑ बृ॒हन्त॑मृ॒ष्वम॒जरं॒ युवा॑नम् । यस्य॑ प्रि॒ये म॒मतु॑र्य॒ज्ञिय॑स्य॒ न रोद॑सी महि॒मानं॑ म॒माते॑
yajāma innamasā vṛddhamindraṃ bṛhantamṛṣvamajaraṃ yuvānam yasya priye mamaturyajñiyasya na rodasī mahimānaṃ mamāte
I have offered the food‑ritual, older Indra, great and mighty, neither aged nor young. For him who delights in your favour, the sacrificer’s gift will not be wasted—grant me greatness.

इन्द्र॑स्य॒ कर्म॒ सुकृ॑ता पु॒रूणि॑ व्र॒तानि॑ दे॒वा न मि॑नन्ति॒ विश्वे॑ । दा॒धार॒ यः पृ॑थि॒वीं द्यामु॒तेमां ज॒जान॒ सूर्य॑मु॒षसं॑ सु॒दंसाः॑
indrasya karma sukṛtā purūṇi vratāni devā na minanti viśve dādhāra yaḥ pṛthivīṃ dyāmutemāṃ jajāna sūryamuṣasaṃ sudaṃsāḥ
The deeds of Indra, well‑made, the gods do not lessen; he upheld the earth and the sky, set the sun and luminous ones in order.

अद्रो॑घ स॒त्यं तव॒ तन्म॑हि॒त्वं स॒द्यो यज्जा॒तो अपि॑बो ह॒ सोम॑म् । न द्याव॑ इन्द्र त॒वस॑स्त॒ ओजो॒ नाहा॒ न मासाः॑ श॒रदो॑ वरन्त
adrogha satyaṃ tava tanmahitvaṃ sadyo yajjāto apibo ha somam na dyāva indra tavasasta ojo nāhā na māsāḥ śarado varanta
Your truth is mighty, unerring; what was born, Soma was drunk immediately. Neither sky‑nor Indra’s vigour fails; months and autumns do not wither away.

त्वं स॒द्यो अ॑पिबो जा॒त इ॑न्द्र॒ मदा॑य॒ सोमं॑ पर॒मे व्यो॑मन् । यद्ध॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी आवि॑वेशी॒रथा॑भवः पू॒र्व्यः का॒रुधा॑याः
tvaṃ sadyo apibo jāta indra madāya somaṃ parame vyoman yaddha dyāvāpṛthivī āviveśīrathābhavaḥ pūrvyaḥ kārudhāyāḥ
Thou wast born and drank at once, Indra, the supreme Soma in heaven. By which the sky and earth were filled, those earlier charioteers became: what deeds were wrought by the ancients are as their fame.

अह॒न्नहिं॑ परि॒शया॑न॒मर्ण॑ ओजा॒यमा॑नं तुविजात॒ तव्या॑न् । न ते॑ महि॒त्वमनु॑ भू॒दध॒ द्यौर्यद॒न्यया॑ स्फि॒ग्या॒३॒॑ क्षामव॑स्थाः
ahannahiṃ pariśayānamarṇa ojāyamānaṃ tuvijāta tavyān na te mahitvamanu bhūdadha dyauryadanyayā sphigyā3 kṣāmavasthāḥ
Day by day you, famed of might, have shone with martial vigour; your powers were not diminished. The heavens did not become less for you, nor did other realms; graceful were your established seats.

य॒ज्ञो हि त॑ इन्द्र॒ वर्ध॑नो॒ भूदु॒त प्रि॒यः सु॒तसो॑मो मि॒येधः॑ । य॒ज्ञेन॑ य॒ज्ञम॑व य॒ज्ञियः॒ सन्य॒ज्ञस्ते॒ वज्र॑महि॒हत्य॑ आवत्
yajño hi ta indra vardhano bhūduta priyaḥ sutasomo miyedhaḥ yajñena yajñamava yajñiyaḥ sanyajñaste vajramahihatya āvat
For sacrifice makes Indra grow; beloved Soma wins the mighty. By sacrifice with sacrificial gifts the sacrificer moves the sacrifice; thou didst hurl the thunderbolt here.

य॒ज्ञेनेन्द्र॒मव॒सा च॑क्रे अ॒र्वागैनं॑ सु॒म्नाय॒ नव्य॑से ववृत्याम् । यः स्तोमे॑भिर्वावृ॒धे पू॒र्व्येभि॒र्यो म॑ध्य॒मेभि॑रु॒त नूत॑नेभिः
yajñenendramavasā cakre arvāgainaṃ sumnāya navyase vavṛtyām yaḥ stomebhirvāvṛdhe pūrvyebhiryo madhyamebhiruta nūtanebhiḥ
By sacrifice Indra established the steed, adorned the fresh spring of Soma, arraying anew his folk. He who increases by hymns of old, by middle and new ones, is he renown’d among men.

वि॒वेष॒ यन्मा॑ धि॒षणा॑ ज॒जान॒ स्तवै॑ पु॒रा पार्या॒दिन्द्र॒मह्नः॑ । अंह॑सो॒ यत्र॑ पी॒पर॒द्यथा॑ नो ना॒वेव॒ यान्त॑मु॒भये॑ हवन्ते
viveṣa yanmā dhiṣaṇā jajāna stavai purā pāryādindramahnaḥ aṃhaso yatra pīparadyathā no nāveva yāntamubhaye havante
What the wise one knew not from thought, the praise of ancient Indra at the noon was born. Where the life‑breath came forth like wave‑breaking bark, they go as two ships when they perform the offering.

आपू॑र्णो अस्य क॒लशः॒ स्वाहा॒ सेक्ते॑व॒ कोशं॑ सिसिचे॒ पिब॑ध्यै । समु॑ प्रि॒या आव॑वृत्र॒न्मदा॑य प्रदक्षि॒णिद॒भि सोमा॑स॒ इन्द्र॑म्
āpūrṇo asya kalaśaḥ svāhā sekteva kośaṃ sisice pibadhyai samu priyā āvavṛtranmadāya pradakṣiṇidabhi somāsa indram
The vessel of Soma is full—svaha—when poured; as when poured, pour into the bowl and drink. Open wide, dear one, the mighty source, go round with offerings; Soma and Indra be honoured.

न त्वा॑ गभी॒रः पु॑रुहूत॒ सिन्धु॒र्नाद्र॑यः॒ परि॒ षन्तो॑ वरन्त । इ॒त्था सखि॑भ्य इषि॒तो यदि॒न्द्रा दृ॒ळ्हं चि॒दरु॑जो॒ गव्य॑मू॒र्वम्
na tvā gabhīraḥ puruhūta sindhurnādrayaḥ pari ṣanto varanta itthā sakhibhya iṣito yadindrā dṛḷhaṃ cidarujo gavyamūrvam
Not you, deep-souled priest, nor Sindhu’s breakers, nor the mountain-stream’s roar shall restrain; thus, friends, if Indra wills, the sturdy, swift-driving bull will overcome the herd.

शु॒नं हु॑वेम म॒घवा॑न॒मिन्द्र॑म॒स्मिन्भरे॒ नृत॑मं॒ वाज॑सातौ । शृ॒ण्वन्त॑मु॒ग्रमू॒तये॑ स॒मत्सु॒ घ्नन्तं॑ वृ॒त्राणि॑ सं॒जितं॒ धना॑नाम्
śunaṃ huvema maghavānamindramasminbhare nṛtamaṃ vājasātau śaṛṇvantamugramūtaye samatsu ghnantaṃ vṛtrāṇi saṃjitaṃ dhanānām
We invoke the puissant Indra with mighty call to fill this pair of sacrificial spoons with song and strength; hear, O strong ones, the overflowing, victorious waters that slay the Vṛtra and deliver wealth.
