क्व१॒॑ स्य वी॒रः को अ॑पश्य॒दिन्द्रं॑ सु॒खर॑थ॒मीय॑मानं॒ हरि॑भ्याम् । यो रा॒या व॒ज्री सु॒तसो॑ममि॒च्छन्तदोको॒ गन्ता॑ पुरुहू॒त ऊ॒ती
kva1 sya vīraḥ ko apaśyadindraṃ sukharathamīyamānaṃ haribhyām yo rāyā vajrī sutasomamicchantadoko gantā puruhūta ūtī
Who of your heroes saw Indra, joyful in his chariot, the slayer of hosts, desiring the mighty Soma, the sacrificer approaching the place of invocation?

अवा॑चचक्षं प॒दम॑स्य स॒स्वरु॒ग्रं नि॑धा॒तुरन्वा॑यमि॒च्छन् । अपृ॑च्छम॒न्याँ उ॒त ते म॑ आहु॒रिन्द्रं॒ नरो॑ बुबुधा॒ना अ॑शेम
avācacakṣaṃ padamasya sasvarugraṃ nidhāturanvāyamicchan apṛcchamanyām̐ uta te ma āhurindraṃ naro bubudhānā aśema
He spoke and fixed his foot, desiring to bestow strength; they asked others and said to him: 'Indra, O thoughtful man, be uninjured.'

प्र नु व॒यं सु॒ते या ते॑ कृ॒तानीन्द्र॒ ब्रवा॑म॒ यानि॑ नो॒ जुजो॑षः । वेद॒दवि॑द्वाञ्छृ॒णव॑च्च वि॒द्वान्वह॑ते॒ऽयं म॒घवा॒ सर्व॑सेनः
pra nu vayaṃ sute yā te kṛtānīndra bravāma yāni no jujoṣaḥ vedadavidvāñchṛṇavacca vidvānvahate'yaṃ maghavā sarvasenaḥ
Declare for us, O Indra, the acts you performed when you were youthful; the wise one, knowing, hears and carries them—this mighty giver is all-armed.

स्थि॒रं मन॑श्चकृषे जा॒त इ॑न्द्र॒ वेषीदेको॑ यु॒धये॒ भूय॑सश्चित् । अश्मा॑नं चि॒च्छव॑सा दिद्युतो॒ वि वि॒दो गवा॑मू॒र्वमु॒स्रिया॑णाम्
sthiraṃ manaścakṛṣe jāta indra veṣīdeko yudhaye bhūyasaścit aśmānaṃ cicchavasā didyuto vi vido gavāmūrvamusriyāṇām
He fixed firm his mind and stood forth; Indra alone assumed battle, flashing like stones and shining like the bright steeds of the herds.

प॒रो यत्त्वं प॑र॒म आ॒जनि॑ष्ठाः परा॒वति॒ श्रुत्यं॒ नाम॒ बिभ्र॑त् । अत॑श्चि॒दिन्द्रा॑दभयन्त दे॒वा विश्वा॑ अ॒पो अ॑जयद्दा॒सप॑त्नीः
paro yattvaṃ parama ājaniṣṭhāḥ parāvati śrutyaṃ nāma bibhrat ataścidindrādabhayanta devā viśvā apo ajayaddāsapatnīḥ
You know what is beyond: the foremost knowers hold that name. Thereafter Indra made the gods fearless; all the waters and maidens he gave victory to the Dasyus' wives.

तुभ्येदे॒ते म॒रुतः॑ सु॒शेवा॒ अर्च॑न्त्य॒र्कं सु॒न्वन्त्यन्धः॑ । अहि॑मोहा॒नम॒प आ॒शया॑नं॒ प्र मा॒याभि॑र्मा॒यिनं॑ सक्ष॒दिन्द्रः॑
tubhyedete marutaḥ suśevā arcantyarkaṃ sunvantyandhaḥ ahimohānamapa āśayānaṃ pra māyābhirmāyinaṃ sakṣadindraḥ
To you these Maruts, well-served, offer the sun; they bring the light; banish delusion and desire—Indra himself, the magician, is present with wondrous power.

वि षू मृधो॑ ज॒नुषा॒ दान॒मिन्व॒न्नह॒न्गवा॑ मघवन्संचका॒नः । अत्रा॑ दा॒सस्य॒ नमु॑चेः॒ शिरो॒ यदव॑र्तयो॒ मन॑वे गा॒तुमि॒च्छन्
vi ṣū mṛdho januṣā dānaminvannahangavā maghavansaṃcakānaḥ atrā dāsasya namuceḥ śiro yadavartayo manave gātumicchan
They sought gifts of men’s wealth with generous songs; here they loosed the bond of the servant’s head, wishing the man to go forth.

युजं॒ हि मामकृ॑था॒ आदिदि॑न्द्र॒ शिरो॑ दा॒सस्य॒ नमु॑चेर्मथा॒यन् । अश्मा॑नं चित्स्व॒र्यं१॒॑ वर्त॑मानं॒ प्र च॒क्रिये॑व॒ रोद॑सी म॒रुद्भ्यः॑
yujaṃ hi māmakṛthā ādidindra śiro dāsasya namucermathāyan aśmānaṃ citsvaryaṃ1 vartamānaṃ pra cakriyeva rodasī marudbhyaḥ
Bind me indeed to you, Lord of heaven, place on my head the sign of a servant; and, like stones set firm, may the radiant one remain, and the Maruts weep for him.

स्त्रियो॒ हि दा॒स आयु॑धानि च॒क्रे किं मा॑ करन्नब॒ला अ॑स्य॒ सेनाः॑ । अ॒न्तर्ह्यख्य॑दु॒भे अ॑स्य॒ धेने॒ अथोप॒ प्रैद्यु॒धये॒ दस्यु॒मिन्द्रः॑
striyo hi dāsa āyudhāni cakre kiṃ mā karannabalā asya senāḥ antarhyakhyadubhe asya dhene athopa praidyudhaye dasyumindraḥ
Women indeed made a slave, they bound up his vitality—what shall the weak hosts do? Indra struck down the robber within his fold and gave him up for slaughter.

समत्र॒ गावो॒ऽभितो॑ऽनवन्ते॒हेह॑ व॒त्सैर्वियु॑ता॒ यदास॑न् । सं ता इन्द्रो॑ असृजदस्य शा॒कैर्यदीं॒ सोमा॑सः॒ सुषु॑ता॒ अम॑न्दन्
samatra gāvo'bhito'navanteheha vatsairviyutā yadāsan saṃ tā indro asṛjadasya śākairyadīṃ somāsaḥ suṣutā amandan
The kine stood around alike, yoked with calves beside them as they had given; Indra fashioned them with branches, the pressed soma flowing sweetly and abundant.

यदीं॒ सोमा॑ ब॒भ्रुधू॑ता॒ अम॑न्द॒न्नरो॑रवीद्वृष॒भः साद॑नेषु । पु॒रं॒द॒रः प॑पि॒वाँ इन्द्रो॑ अस्य॒ पुन॒र्गवा॑मददादु॒स्रिया॑णाम्
yadīṃ somā babhrudhūtā amandannaroravīdvṛṣabhaḥ sādaneṣu puraṃdaraḥ papivām̐ indro asya punargavāmadadādusriyāṇām
If the soma was pressed and flowed, the bull knew the man's voice among the herds; Indra, like a mighty charioteer, gave back the cattle to the herds of the kine.

भ॒द्रमि॒दं रु॒शमा॑ अग्ने अक्र॒न्गवां॑ च॒त्वारि॒ दद॑तः स॒हस्रा॑ । ऋ॒णं॒च॒यस्य॒ प्रय॑ता म॒घानि॒ प्रत्य॑ग्रभीष्म॒ नृत॑मस्य नृ॒णाम्
bhadramidaṃ ruśamā agne akrangavāṃ catvāri dadataḥ sahasrā ṛṇaṃcayasya prayatā maghāni pratyagrabhīṣma nṛtamasya nṛṇām
This good wealth, Agni, gave thousands of herds and four-fold horned cattle; he repaid the debt of him who strove, the noble ones took back the mighty gifts, the dance of men.

सु॒पेश॑सं॒ माव॑ सृज॒न्त्यस्तं॒ गवां॑ स॒हस्रै॑ रु॒शमा॑सो अग्ने । ती॒व्रा इन्द्र॑मममन्दुः सु॒तासो॒ऽक्तोर्व्यु॑ष्टौ॒ परि॑तक्म्यायाः
supeśasaṃ māva sṛjantyastaṃ gavāṃ sahasrai ruśamāso agne tīvrā indramamamanduḥ sutāso'ktorvyuṣṭau paritakmyāyāḥ
May those who bestow well create for us thousands of your herds, O Agni. Swift were the sons who fashioned Indra, they filled the furrows around the ploughshares.

औच्छ॒त्सा रात्री॒ परि॑तक्म्या॒ याँ ऋ॑णंच॒ये राज॑नि रु॒शमा॑नाम् । अत्यो॒ न वा॒जी र॒घुर॒ज्यमा॑नो ब॒भ्रुश्च॒त्वार्य॑सनत्स॒हस्रा॑
aucchatsā rātrī paritakmyā yām̐ ṛṇaṃcaye rājani ruśamānām atyo na vājī raghurajyamāno babhruścatvāryasanatsahasrā
Night cried aloud around the furrow where the debt of the herds at night lay binding; nor did the swift-goer, the wide-king, survive—fourfold were the tawny steeds.

चतुः॑सहस्रं॒ गव्य॑स्य प॒श्वः प्रत्य॑ग्रभीष्म रु॒शमे॑ष्वग्ने । घ॒र्मश्चि॑त्त॒प्तः प्र॒वृजे॒ य आसी॑दय॒स्मय॒स्तम्वादा॑म॒ विप्राः॑
catuḥsahasraṃ gavyasya paśvaḥ pratyagrabhīṣma ruśameṣvagne gharmaścittaptaḥ pravṛje ya āsīdayasmayastamvādāma viprāḥ
Four thousand head of cattle were the lot of the kine; Agni, thou didst take them back. Heat and oblation were offered; thus spoke the priests to that assembly.
