वै॒श्वा॒न॒राय॑ मी॒ळ्हुषे॑ स॒जोषाः॑ क॒था दा॑शेमा॒ग्नये॑ बृ॒हद्भाः । अनू॑नेन बृह॒ता व॒क्षथे॒नोप॑ स्तभायदुप॒मिन्न रोधः॑
vaiśvānarāya mīḷhuṣe sajoṣāḥ kathā dāśemāgnaye bṛhadbhāḥ anūnena bṛhatā vakṣathenopa stabhāyadupaminna rodhaḥ
To Vaishvanara I sing: O powerful ones, how have you bestowed wide greatness upon the agni? With a little he expanded the greatness; he opposed the obstructing bolt.

mā nindata ya imāṃ mahyaṃ rātiṃ devo dadau martyāya svadhāvān pākāya gṛtso amṛto vicetā vaiśvānaro nṛtamo yahvo agniḥ
Do not revile that night which the god gave me for mortal rites. For their ripening the clarified butter is like immortality; Vaishvanara, the dancer, sacred Agni, be mindful.

साम॑ द्वि॒बर्हा॒ महि॑ ति॒ग्मभृ॑ष्टिः स॒हस्र॑रेता वृष॒भस्तुवि॑ष्मान् । प॒दं न गोरप॑गूळ्हं विवि॒द्वान॒ग्निर्मह्यं॒ प्रेदु॑ वोचन्मनी॒षाम्
sāma dvibarhā mahi tigmabhṛṣṭiḥ sahasraretā vṛṣabhastuviṣmān padaṃ na gorapagūḷhaṃ vividvānagnirmahyaṃ predu vocanmanīṣām
Soma, twice-flowing, mighty with thick sap and with a thousand seed-threads—the bull raged, stirring. The wise Agni did not let the cattle's firm foothit stumble; he spoke to me of sacred counsels.

प्र ताँ अ॒ग्निर्ब॑भसत्ति॒ग्मज॑म्भ॒स्तपि॑ष्ठेन शो॒चिषा॒ यः सु॒राधाः॑ । प्र ये मि॒नन्ति॒ वरु॑णस्य॒ धाम॑ प्रि॒या मि॒त्रस्य॒ चेत॑तो ध्रु॒वाणि॑
pra tām̐ agnirbabhasattigmajambhastapiṣṭhena śociṣā yaḥ surādhāḥ pra ye minanti varuṇasya dhāma priyā mitrasya cetato dhruvāṇi
Before them Agni shone like a flame, ruler of the thick-voiced ones, most welcomed by the singers. Before those who invoke the realms of Varuna with songs beloved of Mitra, steadfast hearts are upheld.

अ॒भ्रा॒तरो॒ न योष॑णो॒ व्यन्तः॑ पति॒रिपो॒ न जन॑यो दु॒रेवाः॑ । पा॒पासः॒ सन्तो॑ अनृ॒ता अ॑स॒त्या इ॒दं प॒दम॑जनता गभी॒रम्
abhrātaro na yoṣaṇo vyantaḥ patiripo na janayo durevāḥ pāpāsaḥ santo anṛtā asatyā idaṃ padamajanatā gabhīram
Not a brother or husband was born within the cloud-cave; envious ones did not procreate far away. The sinful, the false, the untruthful did not generate this deep, abiding place.

idaṃ me agne kiyate pāvakāminate guruṃ bhāraṃ na manma bṛhaddadhātha dhṛṣatā gabhīraṃ yahvaṃ pṛṣṭhaṃ prayasā saptadhātu
O Agni, how many blazing fires do you set ablaze for me? I bear the heavy weight; I am not disdainful. The great one, enduring, bears deep burden; O Yajna, press forth the sevenfold sacrifice.

तमिन्न्वे॒३॒॑व स॑म॒ना स॑मा॒नम॒भि क्रत्वा॑ पुन॒ती धी॒तिर॑श्याः । स॒सस्य॒ चर्म॒न्नधि॒ चारु॒ पृश्ने॒रग्रे॑ रु॒प आरु॑पितं॒ जबा॑रु
taminnve3va samanā samānamabhi kratvā punatī dhītiraśyāḥ sasasya carmannadhi cāru pṛśneragre rupa ārupitaṃ jabāru
Then follow ye together, assembling like equals; cleanse again, O minds of the brave. Cover the hide with handsome leather, shape the rounded form before the press, fashioned like Jabara.

प्र॒वाच्यं॒ वच॑सः॒ किं मे॑ अ॒स्य गुहा॑ हि॒तमुप॑ नि॒णिग्व॑दन्ति । यदु॒स्रिया॑णा॒मप॒ वारि॑व॒ व्रन्पाति॑ प्रि॒यं रु॒पो अग्रं॑ प॒दं वेः
pravācyaṃ vacasaḥ kiṃ me asya guhā hitamupa niṇigvadanti yadusriyāṇāmapa vāriva vranpāti priyaṃ rupo agraṃ padaṃ veḥ
Let the word of speech be spoken: what profit is there in this cave for me? When the streams of the wide-flowing rivers fall, the lovely form advances foremost to the foot of the hymn.

idamu tyanmahi mahāmanīkaṃ yadusriyā sacata pūrvyaṃ gauḥ ṛtasya pade adhi dīdyānaṃ guhā raghuṣyadraghuyadviveda
This great, most mighty treasure I have withdrawn—the streams of the cows flowed before, in the ancient order. In the place of Rta, the cave brightly shone; the vigorous ones divided the prize of the mighty.

अध॑ द्युता॒नः पि॒त्रोः सचा॒साम॑नुत॒ गुह्यं॒ चारु॒ पृश्नेः॑ । मा॒तुष्प॒दे प॑र॒मे अन्ति॒ षद्गोर्वृष्णः॑ शो॒चिषः॒ प्रय॑तस्य जि॒ह्वा
adha dyutānaḥ pitroḥ sacāsāmanuta guhyaṃ cāru pṛśneḥ mātuṣpade parame anti ṣadgorvṛṣṇaḥ śociṣaḥ prayatasya jihvā
Taken away are the brightnesses of the fathers and companions, the hidden beauty of the handsome ones. At the mothers' feet lies the supreme end; the six-herd Vrishṇa, sorrowing, strives with the tongue.

ṛtaṃ voce namasā pṛcchyamānastavāśasā jātavedo yadīdam tvamasya kṣayasi yaddha viśvaṃ divi yadu draviṇaṃ yatpṛthivyām
Jataveda spoke the truth to you by salutations, asking: you diminish what is this—world in the sky, wealth upon the earth?

किं नो॑ अ॒स्य द्रवि॑णं॒ कद्ध॒ रत्नं॒ वि नो॑ वोचो जातवेदश्चिकि॒त्वान् । गुहाध्व॑नः पर॒मं यन्नो॑ अ॒स्य रेकु॑ प॒दं न नि॑दा॒ना अग॑न्म
kiṃ no asya draviṇaṃ kaddha ratnaṃ vi no voco jātavedaścikitvān guhādhvanaḥ paramaṃ yanno asya reku padaṃ na nidānā aganma
What is the wealth of this? Where is the gem? Jataveda answered, calling out. The cave's voice is the supreme thing; that path of his step is not negligently closed to us.

kā maryādā vayunā kaddha vāmamacchā gamema raghavo na vājam kadā no devīramṛtasya patnīḥ sūro varṇena tatanannuṣāsaḥ
What boundary is with the wind, or when shall we, O Raghavas, go to the wished-for reward? When will the goddesses, wives of Immortality, O heroes, come near in shining garb and counsel?

अ॒नि॒रेण॒ वच॑सा फ॒ल्ग्वे॑न प्र॒तीत्ये॑न कृ॒धुना॑तृ॒पासः॑ । अधा॒ ते अ॑ग्ने॒ किमि॒हा व॑दन्त्यनायु॒धास॒ आस॑ता सचन्ताम्
anireṇa vacasā phalgvena pratītyena kṛdhunātṛpāsaḥ adhā te agne kimihā vadantyanāyudhāsa āsatā sacantām
With swift speech like Anireṇa, with mild embrace and patient restraint, O Agni, what do they here say about our armaments? Let them be present with friendly weapons.

अ॒स्य श्रि॒ये स॑मिधा॒नस्य॒ वृष्णो॒ वसो॒रनी॑कं॒ दम॒ आ रु॑रोच । रुश॒द्वसा॑नः सु॒दृशी॑करूपः क्षि॒तिर्न रा॒या पु॑रु॒वारो॑ अद्यौत्
asya śriye samidhānasya vṛṣṇo vasoranīkaṃ dama ā ruroca ruśadvasānaḥ sudṛśīkarūpaḥ kṣitirna rāyā puruvāro adyaut
For the prosperity of this fuel-offering the Vrishṇa's riches, the splendid wealth rose up. The bright-clad, mighty, of like form—land, kings, and the ancient Puruvāra shone today.
