O Agni, you have placed the seat of the gods, the assembly‑place; invoking ‘come near’ you send forth; to the mortal he offered the immortal — thus it was called Nyeri. Mortals worship the immortal, the people invoke the universal immortal with thought.

स भ्रात॑रं॒ वरु॑णमग्न॒ आ व॑वृत्स्व दे॒वाँ अच्छा॑ सुम॒ती य॒ज्ञव॑नसं॒ ज्येष्ठं॑ य॒ज्ञव॑नसम् । ऋ॒तावा॑नमादि॒त्यं च॑र्षणी॒धृतं॒ राजा॑नं चर्षणी॒धृत॑म्
sa bhrātaraṃ varuṇamagna ā vavṛtsva devām̐ acchā sumatī yajñavanasaṃ jyeṣṭhaṃ yajñavanasam ṛtāvānamādityaṃ carṣaṇīdhṛtaṃ rājānaṃ carṣaṇīdhṛtam
May you, brother, bring forth Varuṇa and Agni; reveal the best of deities, good mind, the foremost of sacrificers. The righteous Aditya and the bearer of the sacrificial stake, the king who holds the stake.

सखे॒ सखा॑यम॒भ्या व॑वृत्स्वा॒शुं न च॒क्रं रथ्ये॑व॒ रंह्या॒स्मभ्यं॑ दस्म॒ रंह्या॑ । अग्ने॑ मृळी॒कं वरु॑णे॒ सचा॑ विदो म॒रुत्सु॑ वि॒श्वभा॑नुषु । तो॒काय॑ तु॒जे शु॑शुचान॒ शं कृ॑ध्य॒स्मभ्यं॑ दस्म॒ शं कृ॑धि
sakhe sakhāyamabhyā vavṛtsvāśuṃ na cakraṃ rathyeva raṃhyāsmabhyaṃ dasma raṃhyā agne mṛḷīkaṃ varuṇe sacā vido marutsu viśvabhānuṣu tokāya tuje śuśucāna śaṃ kṛdhyasmabhyaṃ dasma śaṃ kṛdhi
Friend, bring forth companions and swift‑chariots, not the wheelless cart; give us the polished clay to Agni and Varuṇa as among the Maruts and all the bright‑armed. For cattle and young kine, prepare offerings; give us these offerings.

त्वं नो॑ अग्ने॒ वरु॑णस्य वि॒द्वान्दे॒वस्य॒ हेळोऽव॑ यासिसीष्ठाः । यजि॑ष्ठो॒ वह्नि॑तमः॒ शोशु॑चानो॒ विश्वा॒ द्वेषां॑सि॒ प्र मु॑मुग्ध्य॒स्मत्
tvaṃ no agne varuṇasya vidvāndevasya heḷo'va yāsisīṣṭhāḥ yajiṣṭho vahnitamaḥ śośucāno viśvā dveṣāṃsi pra mumugdhyasmat
You, knowledgeable in Agni and Varuṇa, O god, come hither, choicest leaders. Most honored, O flame‑lord, helper with swift hands; you hate all foes and delight us.

स त्वं नो॑ अग्नेऽव॒मो भ॑वो॒ती नेदि॑ष्ठो अ॒स्या उ॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टौ । अव॑ यक्ष्व नो॒ वरु॑णं॒ ररा॑णो वी॒हि मृ॑ळी॒कं सु॒हवो॑ न एधि
sa tvaṃ no agne'vamo bhavotī nediṣṭho asyā uṣaso vyuṣṭau ava yakṣva no varuṇaṃ rarāṇo vīhi mṛḷīkaṃ suhavo na edhi
Be for us, O Agni, a humble friend, not hostile in this dawning assembly. May you protect Varuṇa for us; be propitious, O seat‑keeper, bestower of clay, do not withhold.

अ॒स्य श्रेष्ठा॑ सु॒भग॑स्य सं॒दृग्दे॒वस्य॑ चि॒त्रत॑मा॒ मर्त्ये॑षु । शुचि॑ घृ॒तं न त॒प्तमघ्न्या॑याः स्पा॒र्हा दे॒वस्य॑ मं॒हने॑व धे॒नोः
asya śreṣṭhā subhagasya saṃdṛgdevasya citratamā martyeṣu śuci ghṛtaṃ na taptamaghnyāyāḥ spārhā devasya maṃhaneva dhenoḥ
Among mortals this is the best of bright, auspicious deeds of the god, most manifold. Pure clarified butter is not to be scorched; the goddess of the ritual presses upon the cow indeed.

त्रिर॑स्य॒ ता प॑र॒मा स॑न्ति स॒त्या स्पा॒र्हा दे॒वस्य॒ जनि॑मान्य॒ग्नेः । अ॒न॒न्ते अ॒न्तः परि॑वीत॒ आगा॒च्छुचिः॑ शु॒क्रो अ॒र्यो रोरु॑चानः
trirasya tā paramā santi satyā spārhā devasya janimānyagneḥ anante antaḥ parivīta āgācchuciḥ śukro aryo rorucānaḥ
Three of them are supreme, truthful, worthy to be sought, born of the godly Agni. They came into the infinite interior; bright, radiant, the noble, delightful ones.

स दू॒तो विश्वेद॒भि व॑ष्टि॒ सद्मा॒ होता॒ हिर॑ण्यरथो॒ रंसु॑जिह्वः । रो॒हिद॑श्वो वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॒ सदा॑ र॒ण्वः पि॑तु॒मती॑व सं॒सत्
sa dūto viśvedabhi vaṣṭi sadmā hotā hiraṇyaratho raṃsujihvaḥ rohidaśvo vapuṣyo vibhāvā sadā raṇvaḥ pitumatīva saṃsat
He is messenger to all, the oblation-smiter, the priest’s seat, the golden-charioted, with radiant tongue. Like a red-bay steed in form, he is ever a bestower of wealth, like a father he attends.

स चे॑तय॒न्मनु॑षो य॒ज्ञब॑न्धुः॒ प्र तं म॒ह्या र॑श॒नया॑ नयन्ति । स क्षे॑त्यस्य॒ दुर्या॑सु॒ साध॑न्दे॒वो मर्त॑स्य सधनि॒त्वमा॑प
sa cetayanmanuṣo yajñabandhuḥ pra taṃ mahyā raśanayā nayanti sa kṣetyasya duryāsu sādhandevo martasya sadhanitvamāpa
If he awakens, the human — friend of the sacrifice — they lead him with mighty force by the speeding track. He is the protector in hardships, the god sustaining the mortal, granting steadfastness.

स तू नो॑ अ॒ग्निर्न॑यतु प्रजा॒नन्नच्छा॒ रत्नं॑ दे॒वभ॑क्तं॒ यद॑स्य । धि॒या यद्विश्वे॑ अ॒मृता॒ अकृ॑ण्व॒न्द्यौष्पि॒ता ज॑नि॒ता स॒त्यमु॑क्षन्
sa tū no agnirnayatu prajānannacchā ratnaṃ devabhaktaṃ yadasya dhiyā yadviśve amṛtā akṛṇvandyauṣpitā janitā satyamukṣan
May that Agni lead us, bringing forth offspring, bestowing jewels, devoted to the gods. By the intellect which makes all immortal and pure, the maker and begetter delivered the truth and freed it.

स जा॑यत प्रथ॒मः प॒स्त्या॑सु म॒हो बु॒ध्ने रज॑सो अ॒स्य योनौ॑ । अ॒पाद॑शी॒र्षा गु॒हमा॑नो॒ अन्ता॒योयु॑वानो वृष॒भस्य॑ नी॒ळे
sa jāyata prathamaḥ pastyāsu maho budhne rajaso asya yonau apādaśīrṣā guhamāno antāyoyuvāno vṛṣabhasya nīḷe
He was born first among cattle, in the pastures, great in wisdom, the source of this flux of rajas. With hooves, head, hidden depths—born within—youthful, like the bull in blue.

प्र शर्ध॑ आर्त प्रथ॒मं वि॑प॒न्याँ ऋ॒तस्य॒ योना॑ वृष॒भस्य॑ नी॒ळे । स्पा॒र्हो युवा॑ वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॑ स॒प्त प्रि॒यासो॑ऽजनयन्त॒ वृष्णे॑
pra śardha ārta prathamaṃ vipanyām̐ ṛtasya yonā vṛṣabhasya nīḷe spārho yuvā vapuṣyo vibhāvā sapta priyāso'janayanta vṛṣṇe
He first roused the sacrificial pious one, the bull’s source in the law’s womb. A youthful toucher, form-bearing, bestower of riches, the seven dear ones generated for the bull of strength.

अ॒स्माक॒मत्र॑ पि॒तरो॑ मनु॒ष्या॑ अ॒भि प्र से॑दुरृ॒तमा॑शुषा॒णाः । अश्म॑व्रजाः सु॒दुघा॑ व॒व्रे अ॒न्तरुदु॒स्रा आ॑जन्नु॒षसो॑ हुवा॒नाः
asmākamatra pitaro manuṣyā abhi pra sedurṛtamāśuṣāṇāḥ aśmavrajāḥ sudughā vavre antarudusrā ājannuṣaso huvānāḥ
Our fathers here, men, pressed near to the dharma, fierce in heat and thirst. They drove the stone-born herds, strong in milking, harsh within; they called the people by day.

ते म॑र्मृजत ददृ॒वांसो॒ अद्रिं॒ तदे॑षाम॒न्ये अ॒भितो॒ वि वो॑चन् । प॒श्वय॑न्त्रासो अ॒भि का॒रम॑र्चन्वि॒दन्त॒ ज्योति॑श्चकृ॒पन्त॑ धी॒भिः
te marmṛjata dadṛvāṃso adriṃ tadeṣāmanye abhito vi vocan paśvayantrāso abhi kāramarcanvidanta jyotiścakṛpanta dhībhiḥ
They rubbed the marrow and made liquid offerings, addressing the hill; others nearby spoke to them. The herdsmen set the beasts toward the work, and lights struck compassion with their wits.

ते ग॑व्य॒ता मन॑सा दृ॒ध्रमु॒ब्धं गा ये॑मा॒नं परि॒ षन्त॒मद्रि॑म् । दृ॒ळ्हं नरो॒ वच॑सा॒ दैव्ये॑न व्र॒जं गोम॑न्तमु॒शिजो॒ वि व॑व्रुः
te gavyatā manasā dṛdhramubdhaṃ gā yemānaṃ pari ṣantamadrim dṛḷhaṃ naro vacasā daivyena vrajaṃ gomantamuśijo vi vavruḥ
They led the cows with strong minds, binding them around the mountain. The firm man spoke with divine words and drove the herds to the people of cattle.

ते म॑न्वत प्रथ॒मं नाम॑ धे॒नोस्त्रिः स॒प्त मा॒तुः प॑र॒माणि॑ विन्दन् । तज्जा॑न॒तीर॒भ्य॑नूषत॒ व्रा आ॒विर्भु॑वदरु॒णीर्य॒शसा॒ गोः
te manvata prathamaṃ nāma dhenostriḥ sapta mātuḥ paramāṇi vindan tajjānatīrabhyanūṣata vrā āvirbhuvadaruṇīryaśasā goḥ
They first appointed three named cows, seven mothers obtaining abundant measures. He who knew that sang praises, the breath came forth—mighty, renowned, cows of the two worlds.

नेश॒त्तमो॒ दुधि॑तं॒ रोच॑त॒ द्यौरुद्दे॒व्या उ॒षसो॑ भा॒नुर॑र्त । आ सूर्यो॑ बृह॒तस्ति॑ष्ठ॒दज्रा॑ँ ऋ॒जु मर्ते॑षु वृजि॒ना च॒ पश्य॑न्
neśattamo dudhitaṃ rocata dyauruddevyā uṣaso bhānurarta ā sūryo bṛhatastiṣṭhadajrām̐ ṛju marteṣu vṛjinā ca paśyan
The highest among lords milked, the bright one rejoiced—the heaven-born dawn, the radiant Sun stood, great and unfading; straight he looked upon mortals and cattle.

आदित्प॒श्चा बु॑बुधा॒ना व्य॑ख्य॒न्नादिद्रत्नं॑ धारयन्त॒ द्युभ॑क्तम् । विश्वे॒ विश्वा॑सु॒ दुर्या॑सु दे॒वा मित्र॑ धि॒ये व॑रुण स॒त्यम॑स्तु
āditpaścā bubudhānā vyakhyannādidratnaṃ dhārayanta dyubhaktam viśve viśvāsu duryāsu devā mitra dhiye varuṇa satyamastu
After the Aditya they opened the vesicles, explaining the primal jewel; they bore the worship of heaven. All the gods, all the dwellings, in hardships—May Mitra and Varuna be true in thought.

अच्छा॑ वोचेय शुशुचा॒नम॒ग्निं होता॑रं वि॒श्वभ॑रसं॒ यजि॑ष्ठम् । शुच्यूधो॑ अतृण॒न्न गवा॒मन्धो॒ न पू॒तं परि॑षिक्तमं॒शोः
acchā voceya śuśucānamagniṃ hotāraṃ viśvabharasaṃ yajiṣṭham śucyūdho atṛṇanna gavāmandho na pūtaṃ pariṣiktamaṃśoḥ
May he speak pure, the purifier, the Agni, the chief sacrificer, wide-spreading. Pure in spear, not eating straw, not blind of cows—let the sprinkled portion be pure.

विश्वे॑षा॒मदि॑तिर्य॒ज्ञिया॑नां॒ विश्वे॑षा॒मति॑थि॒र्मानु॑षाणाम् । अ॒ग्निर्दे॒वाना॒मव॑ आवृणा॒नः सु॑मृळी॒को भ॑वतु जा॒तवे॑दाः
viśveṣāmaditiryajñiyānāṃ viśveṣāmatithirmānuṣāṇām agnirdevānāmava āvṛṇānaḥ sumṛḷīko bhavatu jātavedāḥ
For all those the Aditya is the worshipper, the guest, and the protector of men. Agni, the gods' oblation-bearer, be agreeable; may the seers of the born know this.
