haye jāye manasā tiṣṭha ghore vacāṃsi miśrā kṛṇavāvahai nu na nau mantrā anuditāsa ete mayaskaranparatare canāhan
O horses, go with mind! Stand terrible: mix the words and bring them, will you not? These counsels were not spoken to us; they struck me and the other who were near.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 95 · Verse 10.95.2
kimetā vācā kṛṇavā tavāhaṃ prākramiṣamuṣasāmagriyeva purūravaḥ punarastaṃ parehi durāpanā vāta ivāhamasmi
Why did you make these words? I advanced earlier like one pressing forward in the house of dawn. I, Pururavas, again come to the other side; a hard-to-reach wind am I.

iṣurna śriya iṣudherasanā goṣāḥ śatasā na raṃhiḥ avīre kratau vi davidyutannorā na māyuṃ citayanta dhunayaḥ
We long for wealth, for riches; cows and herds are not counted in hundreds. The unmanly ones in sacrifice scatter like lightning; the singers do not imagine my delight.

sā vasu dadhatī śvaśurāya vaya uṣo yadi vaṣṭyantigṛhāt astaṃ nanakṣe yasmiñcākandivā naktaṃ śnathitā vaitasena
She gives wealth to the father-in-law; may you, O light of dawn, be turned from the home. I lie down; like a lamp I watch the night—this is your strength.
Rigveda 10.095.05
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 95 · Verse 10.95.5
triḥ sma māhnaḥ śnathayo vaitasenota sma me'vyatyai pṛṇāsi purūravo'nu te ketamāyaṃ rājā me vīra tanva1stadāsīḥ
Three months the watchers watched, O Vaitasena; you fill my cup for my avoidance. Pururavas, after you, what banner is this? My hero then was like a stretched bow.

yā sujūrṇiḥ śreṇiḥ sumnāpirhradecakṣurna granthinī caraṇyuḥ tā añjayo'ruṇayo na sasruḥ śriye gāvo na dhenavo'navanta
She of long-born line, of pleasant company, eye of the flood, binder of books, the grazers. They, the red-bright, not many for wealth, the cows and kine did not lead away.

samasmiñjāyamāna āsata gnā utemavardhannadya1ḥ svagūrtāḥ mahe yattvā purūravo raṇāyāvardhayandasyuhatyāya devāḥ
I am among those being born; the fires increased, the heroic today with their own strength. Great is that which Pururavas, having slain the hostile, made for battle—thus the gods grew.

When the companion gives up among those desiring, a man departs from desires. From that we, the intoxicated, did not eat; the charioteers' horses did not touch the sleepers here.

When mortals tasted the immortals and grazed with the kine of sacrifice, the breaths did not lengthen. Your vital powers did not grow; the coursers of your harness did not sport nor wag their reins.

Purūravas, do not let me be false, do not let me be taken, do not let the wolfish ones gore you for a moment. Women’s friendships are not like the hearts of the pack of wolves.

When nights passed among mortals with strange conduct, the autumnal quarter was fourfold. Once I tasted the curd of ghee; thus I wander, and I, O lord of fathers, go about the homes of the Fosterers.

Thus the gods said to you: you shall be like this, a kinsman of death. The gods offspring sacrifice for you with oblations to heaven; you too stir up (them).
