ता वां॒ विश्व॑स्य गो॒पा दे॒वा दे॒वेषु॑ य॒ज्ञिया॑ । ऋ॒तावा॑ना यजसे पू॒तद॑क्षसा
tā vāṃ viśvasya gopā devā deveṣu yajñiyā ṛtāvānā yajase pūtadakṣasā
May those who tend your herds, O gods, be invoked for the gods; the ritually upright one sacrifices with pure skill and law.

mitrā tanā na rathyā3 varuṇo yaśca sukratuḥ sanātsujātā tanayā dhṛtavratā
Mitra radiantly and Varuṇa, and he who is Sukratu—born long-ago, with daughter-bearing strength and firm in vow.

May the mothers, knowers of all, come with the sunlike great force; earth and Aditi and the rivers of ṛta proclaimed it.

mahāntā mitrāvaruṇā samrājā devāvasurā ṛtāvānāvṛtamā ghoṣato bṛhat
Great Mitra and Varuṇa, sovereigns, gods and vasus: they proclaim the wide-established laws, loudly and largely.

napātā śavaso mahaḥ sūnū dakṣasya sukratū sṛpradānū iṣo vāstvadhi kṣitaḥ
From the noble dwellings the mighty life-streams—sons of Daksha, O Sukratu—gracefully giving; may desire be placed upon the earth.

saṃ yā dānūni yemathurdivyāḥ pārthivīriṣaḥ nabhasvatīrā vāṃ carantu vṛṣṭayaḥ
Those who are earthly heroes and divine gifts, let the rains move along your skyward shores.

adhi yā bṛhato divo3'bhi yūtheva paśyataḥ ṛtāvānā samrājā namase hitā
She who looks forth from the great expanse of heaven—hail to the sovereign whose laws are established.

ṛtāvānā ni ṣedatuḥ sāmrājyāya sukratū dhṛtavratā kṣatriyā kṣatramāśatuḥ
Ritavāna Sukratu established the monarchy; the vow-holding kṣatriya upheld the realm.

अ॒क्ष्णश्चि॑द्गातु॒वित्त॑रानुल्ब॒णेन॒ चक्ष॑सा । नि चि॑न्मि॒षन्ता॑ निचि॒रा नि चि॑क्यतुः
akṣṇaścidgātuvittarānulbaṇena cakṣasā ni cinmiṣantā nicirā ni cikyatuḥ
They saw with piercing sight the appointed offerings and bound the mingling ones; they performed and tended them.

uta no devyaditiruruṣyatāṃ nāsatyā uruṣyantu maruto vṛddhaśavasaḥ
May the goddesses of light, the Dītirīs, come to us; may the Maruts, mighty of fame, come forth.

They shall bring us our ships by day and night, the generous ones; arriving, they grant us drink with waters.

aghnate viṣṇave vayamariṣyantaḥ sudānave śrudhi svayāvansindho pūrvacittaye
Against the hateful they assail Viṣṇu; the shining enemies are struck down—hear, O swift-armed one, for former thought.

तद्वार्यं॑ वृणीमहे॒ वरि॑ष्ठं गोप॒यत्य॑म् । मि॒त्रो यत्पान्ति॒ वरु॑णो॒ यद॑र्य॒मा
tadvāryaṃ vṛṇīmahe variṣṭhaṃ gopayatyam mitro yatpānti varuṇo yadaryamā
We choose that noble fellowship, the foremost guardianship; Mitra protects what Varuṇa and Aryaman uphold.

उ॒त नः॒ सिन्धु॑र॒पां तन्म॒रुत॒स्तद॒श्विना॑ । इन्द्रो॒ विष्णु॑र्मी॒ढ्वांसः॑ स॒जोष॑सः
uta naḥ sindhurapāṃ tanmarutastadaśvinā indro viṣṇurmīḍhvāṃsaḥ sajoṣasaḥ
Or to us the Maruts poured the mead, those two like horses; Indra and Viṣṇu, the strong-bodied, and the pair of Ushas together.

ते हि ष्मा॑ व॒नुषो॒ नरो॒ऽभिमा॑तिं॒ कय॑स्य चित् । ति॒ग्मं न क्षोदः॑ प्रति॒घ्नन्ति॒ भूर्ण॑यः
te hi ṣmā vanuṣo naro'bhimātiṃ kayasya cit tigmaṃ na kṣodaḥ pratighnanti bhūrṇayaḥ
Truly those men, O hunters, have proud might; the tender ones do not angrily resist the striking ones.

अ॒यमेक॑ इ॒त्था पु॒रूरु च॑ष्टे॒ वि वि॒श्पतिः॑ । तस्य॑ व्र॒तान्यनु॑ वश्चरामसि
ayameka itthā purūru caṣṭe vi viśpatiḥ tasya vratānyanu vaścarāmasi
Thus one man was in many places; the all-lord spreads forth. I follow his vows and yield to them.

anu pūrvāṇyokyā sāmrājyasya saścima mitrasya vratā varuṇasya dīrghaśrut
Formerly the auspicious seats of sovereignty were set in the west; Mitra’s vows, Varuṇa’s long-reputed laws.

Around whom the rays of heaven’s end encircle the earth—both came to you, O dawns, with greatness.

udu ṣya śaraṇe divo jyotirayaṃsta sūryaḥ agnirna śukraḥ samidhāna āhutaḥ
The light of heaven came forth, the sun mounted to the refuge; Agni and Sukra were invoked with fuel.

vaco dīrghaprasadmanīśe vājasya gomataḥ īśe hi pitvo'viṣasya dāvane
Word, long-gracious, and the lord of strength from the cow-born—he ruled; the drinker tasted the sacrificial smoke in the offering-place.

तत्सूर्यं॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे दो॒षा वस्तो॒रुप॑ ब्रुवे । भो॒जेष्व॒स्माँ अ॒भ्युच्च॑रा॒ सदा॑
tatsūryaṃ rodasī ubhe doṣā vastorupa bruve bhojeṣvasmām̐ abhyuccarā sadā
That sun of dawn, both bright and faulting, I call the wealth-bringer’s protecting word; may he ever perform for our feasts.

Straight, freeing, bearing silver and gold, yoked to chariots with ornamented reins.

ता मे॒ अश्व्या॑नां॒ हरी॑णां नि॒तोश॑ना । उ॒तो नु कृत्व्या॑नां नृ॒वाह॑सा
tā me aśvyānāṃ harīṇāṃ nitośanā uto nu kṛtvyānāṃ nṛvāhasā
Those are my steeds, the hinds, driven, urged on; having urged them forth with manly vigour.

smadabhīśū kaśāvantā viprā naviṣṭhayā matī maho vājināvarvantā sacāsanam
May my mighty heroes, the seers newly established in thought, sit with us; those possessing great wealth came together.
