īḷiṣvā hi pratīvyaṃ1 yajasva jātavedasam cariṣṇudhūmamagṛbhītaśociṣam
Praising the friendly-born (gods), perform the eastward rite, O Jataveda; take up the fragrant smoke and the pious offerings.

dāmānaṃ viśvacarṣaṇe'gniṃ viśvamano girā uta stuṣe viṣpardhaso rathānām
Give the pledge, Agni, to the universal charioteer, the all-mind, O Speaker; and let the striving of chariot-drivers praise you.

yeṣāmābādha ṛgmiya iṣaḥ pṛkṣaśca nigrabhe upavidā vahnirvindate vasu
Whose hymns were bound and for whom the song and the seeker approached; the fire, the treasure-finder, brings them near by kindling.

उद॑स्य शो॒चिर॑स्थाद्दीदि॒युषो॒ व्य१॒॑जर॑म् । तपु॑र्जम्भस्य सु॒द्युतो॑ गण॒श्रियः॑
udasya śocirasthāddīdiyuṣo vya1jaram tapurjambhasya sudyuto gaṇaśriyaḥ
From the rising one the bright, swift-smiting flame has stood; the radiant hosts, shining like the sun, are the attendants of the sacrifice.

udu tiṣṭha svadhvara stavāno devyā kṛpā abhikhyā bhāsā bṛhatā śuśukvaniḥ
Stand, O one praised at the eastern side, goddess of favor; speak forth a mighty voice, O clarifier, like the dry reed.

अग्ने॑ या॒हि सु॑श॒स्तिभि॑र्ह॒व्या जुह्वा॑न आनु॒षक् । यथा॑ दू॒तो ब॒भूथ॑ हव्य॒वाह॑नः
agne yāhi suśastibhirhavyā juhvāna ānuṣak yathā dūto babhūtha havyavāhanaḥ
Agni, come with well-ordered rites and offerings, with sacred invocations and the attendant libations, as when a messenger became a carrier of the oblation.

agniṃ vaḥ pūrvyaṃ huve hotāraṃ carṣaṇīnām tamayā vācā gṛṇe tamu vaḥ stuṣe
I invoked the ancient Agni for you, the sacrificer, the inviter of the charioteers; with that speech I have called him—may he be praised by you.

य॒ज्ञेभि॒रद्भु॑तक्रतुं॒ यं कृ॒पा सू॒दय॑न्त॒ इत् । मि॒त्रं न जने॒ सुधि॑तमृ॒ताव॑नि
yajñebhiradbhutakratuṃ yaṃ kṛpā sūdayanta it mitraṃ na jane sudhitamṛtāvani
By sacred acts of the sacrifices compel the gracious one to come who bestows bounty; Mitra, do not be less mindful of the lofty waters of immortality.

ऋ॒तावा॑नमृतायवो य॒ज्ञस्य॒ साध॑नं गि॒रा । उपो॑ एनं जुजुषु॒र्नम॑सस्प॒दे
ṛtāvānamṛtāyavo yajñasya sādhanaṃ girā upo enaṃ jujuṣurnamasaspade
The ritual, full of truth and immortal, is the song that accomplishes the sacrifice; approach it with homage and reverence.

अच्छा॑ नो॒ अङ्गि॑रस्तमं य॒ज्ञासो॑ यन्तु सं॒यतः॑ । होता॒ यो अस्ति॑ वि॒क्ष्वा य॒शस्त॑मः
acchā no aṅgirastamaṃ yajñāso yantu saṃyataḥ hotā yo asti vikṣvā yaśastamaḥ
May Angiras bring to us that assembled fame of the sacrificers, the ordered hosts; he who is the hotar, seeing it, is most glorious.

agne tava tye ajarendhānāso bṛhadbhāḥ aśvā iva vṛṣaṇastaviṣīyavaḥ
Agni, your mighty beams are like ageless bulls and dear steeds; your vigorous glories are like powerful stallions.

sa tvaṃ na ūrjāṃ pate rayiṃ rāsva suvīryam prāva nastoke tanaye samatsvā
You possess strength, lord, bestower of wealth, protector of the brave; bring back our moved son to comfort us together.

यद्वा उ॑ वि॒श्पतिः॑ शि॒तः सुप्री॑तो॒ मनु॑षो वि॒शि । विश्वेद॒ग्निः प्रति॒ रक्षां॑सि सेधति
yadvā u viśpatiḥ śitaḥ suprīto manuṣo viśi viśvedagniḥ prati rakṣāṃsi sedhati
If the wide-ruling Lord, pleased and cool, appears to men, then Agni protects all with his guarding rites.

श्रु॒ष्ट्य॑ग्ने॒ नव॑स्य मे॒ स्तोम॑स्य वीर विश्पते । नि मा॒यिन॒स्तपु॑षा र॒क्षसो॑ दह
śruṣṭyagne navasya me stomasya vīra viśpate ni māyinastapuṣā rakṣaso daha
Hear, Agni, the new hymn of mine, the brave praise of the sovereign; restrain not the strong-armed worshippers, O striking one, burn away the foes of the sacrificers.

न तस्य॑ मा॒यया॑ च॒न रि॒पुरी॑शीत॒ मर्त्यः॑ । यो अ॒ग्नये॑ द॒दाश॑ ह॒व्यदा॑तिभिः
na tasya māyayā cana ripurīśīta martyaḥ yo agnaye dadāśa havyadātibhiḥ
No deceit of his made the mortal enemy overcome the citadel of men; he who gave oblations to Agni stood firm with offerings.

व्य॑श्वस्त्वा वसु॒विद॑मुक्ष॒ण्युर॑प्रीणा॒दृषिः॑ । म॒हो रा॒ये तमु॑ त्वा॒ समि॑धीमहि
vyaśvastvā vasuvidamukṣaṇyuraprīṇādṛṣiḥ maho rāye tamu tvā samidhīmahi
You, great glory, free the wealth-dispensing one and win the sage’s favor; for the great kingdom we invoke you with solemn worship.

Warm brilliance, O poet, you rose and appointed the hotar; we worship you, born of Manuve the seer.

विश्वे॒ हि त्वा॑ स॒जोष॑सो दे॒वासो॑ दू॒तमक्र॑त । श्रु॒ष्टी दे॑व प्रथ॒मो य॒ज्ञियो॑ भुवः
viśve hi tvā sajoṣaso devāso dūtamakrata śruṣṭī deva prathamo yajñiyo bhuvaḥ
All the gods send you as their herald, for you are allied with joy; you are the first who fashioned the world’s rites, O foremost of the worshipful.

imaṃ ghā vīro amṛtaṃ dūtaṃ kṛṇvīta martyaḥ pāvakaṃ kṛṣṇavartaniṃ vihāyasam
Let mortals make this heroic immortal envoy; sending forth the purifying, dark-rolling fire, cast him forth.

तं हु॑वेम य॒तस्रु॑चः सु॒भासं॑ शु॒क्रशो॑चिषम् । वि॒शाम॒ग्निम॒जरं॑ प्र॒त्नमीड्य॑म्
taṃ huvema yatasrucaḥ subhāsaṃ śukraśociṣam viśāmagnimajaraṃ pratnamīḍyam
We invoke him whose voice is shining, resplendent and clear; call Agni, the swift-moving, like a young goat in the field.

यो अ॑स्मै ह॒व्यदा॑तिभि॒राहु॑तिं॒ मर्तोऽवि॑धत् । भूरि॒ पोषं॒ स ध॑त्ते वी॒रव॒द्यशः॑
yo asmai havyadātibhirāhutiṃ marto'vidhat bhūri poṣaṃ sa dhatte vīravadyaśaḥ
Whoever, mortal, offers to him libations and calls the offering, secures abundant nourishment, heroic fame and glory.

प्र॒थ॒मं जा॒तवे॑दसम॒ग्निं य॒ज्ञेषु॑ पू॒र्व्यम् । प्रति॒ स्रुगे॑ति॒ नम॑सा ह॒विष्म॑ती
prathamaṃ jātavedasamagniṃ yajñeṣu pūrvyam prati srugeti namasā haviṣmatī
First, O Jātavedas, may Agni, foremost in sacrifices, be invoked; may he accept our oblations with reverent homage.

ābhirvidhemāgnaye jyeṣṭhābhirvyaśvavat maṃhiṣṭhābhirmatibhiḥ śukraśociṣe
We consecrate thee to Agni with offerings; with pure thoughts and noble rites mayst thou shine forth; may thy splendid light be auspicious.

नू॒नम॑र्च॒ विहा॑यसे॒ स्तोमे॑भिः स्थूरयूप॒वत् । ऋषे॑ वैयश्व॒ दम्या॑या॒ग्नये॑
nūnamarca vihāyase stomebhiḥ sthūrayūpavat ṛṣe vaiyaśva damyāyāgnaye
Indeed, cast away neglect with the hymns and approach the steadfast one; the sage, obedient to law, is fit for the altar.

atithiṃ mānuṣāṇāṃ sūnuṃ vanaspatīnām viprā agnimavase pratnamīḷate
As guest among humans, son of the masters of forests, O priest, the Brahmins seat Agni duly and invoke him.

maho viśvām̐ abhi ṣato3'bhi havyāni mānuṣā agne ni ṣatsi namasādhi barhiṣi
Great are all the offerings brought near; O Agni, you receive the oblations from men—accept salutations on the sacred grass (barhi).

वंस्वा॑ नो॒ वार्या॑ पु॒रु वंस्व॑ रा॒यः पु॑रु॒स्पृहः॑ । सु॒वीर्य॑स्य प्र॒जाव॑तो॒ यश॑स्वतः
vaṃsvā no vāryā puru vaṃsva rāyaḥ puruspṛhaḥ suvīryasya prajāvato yaśasvataḥ
Grant us lineage, O bountiful one: many be thy progeny, many the realms, much desire for rule; may the offspring of the mighty prosper in fame.

त्वं व॑रो सु॒षाम्णेऽग्ने॒ जना॑य चोदय । सदा॑ वसो रा॒तिं य॑विष्ठ॒ शश्व॑ते
tvaṃ varo suṣāmṇe'gne janāya codaya sadā vaso rātiṃ yaviṣṭha śaśvate
O Agni, be the best of guardians; awaken the people; may thou ever dwell, keep watchful night and day, and preserve the host.

tvaṃ hi supratūrasi tvaṃ no gomatīriṣaḥ maho rāyaḥ sātimagne apā vṛdhi
Thou art swift to grant prosperity; thou art our rich-flowing river of cows; O Agni, increase the great wealth of the people who worship.

अग्ने॒ त्वं य॒शा अ॒स्या मि॒त्रावरु॑णा वह । ऋ॒तावा॑ना स॒म्राजा॑ पू॒तद॑क्षसा
agne tvaṃ yaśā asyā mitrāvaruṇā vaha ṛtāvānā samrājā pūtadakṣasā
Agni, carry forth the fame of this people to Mitra and Varuṇa; endowed with truth, O sovereign, radiant in skill, bear it to the rulers.
