In portions the Marut will eat for you, they will keep bright splendors in your chests like golden coffer-lids. Lightning—not rain—are their delights; they take up their offerings with weapons.
Rigveda 7.056.14
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.14

yadi stutasya maruto adhīthetthā viprasya vājino havīman makṣū rāyaḥ suvīryasya dāta nū cidyamanya ādabhadarāvā
If the Marut is praised, let him preside, whether at the sage's or the warrior's oblation. The chariot of the generous hero gives gifts; indeed the bestower bestowed blessings.
Rigveda 7.056.16
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.16
Not those Maruts who are slothful or like gazers at wealth—those do not make auspicious the bounds. They are the foremost, the youthful, not fair calves, not playful drinkers of the sacrificial dairy.
Rigveda 7.056.17
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.17
daśasyanto no maruto mṛḷantu varivasyanto rodasī sumeke āre gohā nṛhā vadho vo astu sumnebhirasme vasavo namadhvam
May the Maruts, who dwell at the ten points, bestow bounty upon us; may they flow down like rain, bring abundant cows, men, and slaughter—O Maruts, be favorable to us, Vasavas, we bow to you.
Rigveda 7.056.18
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.18
ā vo hotā johavīti sattaḥ satrācīṃ rātiṃ maruto gṛṇānaḥ ya īvato vṛṣaṇo asti gopāḥ so advayāvī havate va ukthaiḥ
May he who proclaims “be pleased” be your sacrificer; O Maruts, accept the sacrificial night’s oblation. As a bull endowed with brawn stands, so the herdsmen call him one who sets apart with hymns.
Rigveda 7.056.19
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.19
ime turaṃ maruto rāmayantīme sahaḥ sahasa ā namanti ime śaṃsaṃ vanuṣyato ni pānti guru dveṣo araruṣe dadhanti
These Maruts now drive swiftly, these who together invoke you a thousandfold. These who strike praises from the woodlands do not drink away; in great anger they set adversaries on the path of ruin.
Rigveda 7.056.20
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.20
ime radhraṃ cinmaruto junanti bhṛmiṃ cidyathā vasavo juṣanta apa bādhadhvaṃ vṛṣaṇastamāṃsi dhatta viśvaṃ tanayaṃ tokamasme
These Maruts tear apart the fierce, they bind the buzzing like bees; Vasus drink up the thunder. Strike down the bulls, put forth the whole offspring—make this bolt mine.
Rigveda 7.056.21
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.21
mā vo dātrānmaruto nirarāma mā paścāddaghma rathyo vibhāge ā naḥ spārhe bhajatanā vasavye3 yadīṃ sujātaṃ vṛṣaṇo vo asti
Do not harm us, Maruts; do not burn us from behind in the chariot’s course. Attend our rite with favour, O Vasavas; if the bull of noble birth is yours, then may it be for us.
Rigveda 7.056.22
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.22
saṃ yaddhananta manyubhirjanāsaḥ śūrā yahvīṣvoṣadhīṣu vikṣu adha smā no maruto rudriyāsastrātāro bhūta pṛtanāsvaryaḥ
Grant us riches, Maruts, O honored ones, ye mighty men—behold the herbs and draughts. Be Rudra-like for us today, O Maruts; be rescuers, dispellers of fear and foes.
Rigveda 7.056.23
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.23
bhūri cakra marutaḥ pitryāṇyukthāni yā vaḥ śasyante purā cit marudbhirugraḥ pṛtanāsu sāḷhā marudbhiritsanitā vājamarvā
Maruts have turned many rites by the father’s command; those songs of praise which are held for you in the town prosper. With terrible Maruts among the hosts of men are stout hymns and the plunder of strength.
Rigveda 7.056.24
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.24
asme vīro marutaḥ śuṣmyastu janānāṃ yo asuro vidhartā apo yena sukṣitaye taremādha svamoko abhi vaḥ syāma
May the Marut hero be gentle to my people, he who makes foes not—he is the maker of stormless welfare. By him whose waters are for our protection, may we pass safely; may he be with you.
Rigveda 7.056.25
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 56 · Verse 7.56.25
tanna indro varuṇo mitro agnirāpa oṣadhīrvanino juṣanta śarmansyāma marutāmupasthe yūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ
Then Indra, Varuna, Mitra, Agni, and the plants of the forests will be propitious. May the Maruts be our cushion of protection; you, come and protect us always with auspiciousness.
