अस्ती॒दम॑धि॒मन्थ॑न॒मस्ति॑ प्र॒जन॑नं कृ॒तम् । ए॒तां वि॒श्पत्नी॒मा भ॑रा॒ग्निं म॑न्थाम पू॒र्वथा॑
astīdamadhimanthanamasti prajananaṃ kṛtam etāṃ viśpatnīmā bharāgniṃ manthāma pūrvathā
There was churned the great stirring, there was procreation accomplished. I churned the spreading, mighty Agni, and kindled the fire as formerly.

अ॒रण्यो॒र्निहि॑तो जा॒तवे॑दा॒ गर्भ॑ इव॒ सुधि॑तो ग॒र्भिणी॑षु । दि॒वेदि॑व॒ ईड्यो॑ जागृ॒वद्भि॑र्ह॒विष्म॑द्भिर्मनु॒ष्ये॑भिर॒ग्निः
araṇyornihito jātavedā garbha iva sudhito garbhiṇīṣu divediva īḍyo jāgṛvadbhirhaviṣmadbhirmanuṣyebhiragniḥ
Hidden in the wilderness, placed for the born Knowledge, the womb is held like an abode made pure among the pregnant; day by day bright sacrifice awoke with offerings and men — Agni among humans.

उ॒त्ता॒नाया॒मव॑ भरा चिकि॒त्वान्स॒द्यः प्रवी॑ता॒ वृष॑णं जजान । अ॒रु॒षस्तू॑पो॒ रुश॑दस्य॒ पाज॒ इळा॑यास्पु॒त्रो व॒युने॑ऽजनिष्ट
uttānāyāmava bharā cikitvānsadyaḥ pravītā vṛṣaṇaṃ jajāna aruṣastūpo ruśadasya pāja iḷāyāsputro vayune'janiṣṭa
At the uplifted time she bore and quickly brought forth the well-endowed bull. The stirring heap roared; Ilā gave birth to a son, Vayuna, born of strength.

इळा॑यास्त्वा प॒दे व॒यं नाभा॑ पृथि॒व्या अधि॑ । जात॑वेदो॒ नि धी॑म॒ह्यग्ने॑ ह॒व्याय॒ वोळ्ह॑वे
iḷāyāstvā pade vayaṃ nābhā pṛthivyā adhi jātavedo ni dhīmahyagne havyāya voḷhave
Ilā gave you a foothold; we are not the navel above the earth. Jatavedas, give wealth for the oblation, we invoke (it) for thee.

मन्थ॑ता नरः क॒विमद्व॑यन्तं॒ प्रचे॑तसम॒मृतं॑ सु॒प्रती॑कम् । य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रस्ता॑द॒ग्निं न॑रो जनयता सु॒शेव॑म्
manthatā naraḥ kavimadvayantaṃ pracetasamamṛtaṃ supratīkam yajñasya ketuṃ prathamaṃ purastādagniṃ naro janayatā suśevam
A churning man produced the poet who, doubly inspired, brought forth mind, immortal and well-disposed. First for the sacrifice the man generated Agni in front as a banner, and served him well.

यदी॒ मन्थ॑न्ति बा॒हुभि॒र्वि रो॑च॒तेऽश्वो॒ न वा॒ज्य॑रु॒षो वने॒ष्वा । चि॒त्रो न याम॑न्न॒श्विनो॒रनि॑वृतः॒ परि॑ वृण॒क्त्यश्म॑न॒स्तृणा॒ दह॑न्
yadī manthanti bāhubhirvi rocate'śvo na vājyaruṣo vaneṣvā citro na yāmannaśvinoranivṛtaḥ pari vṛṇaktyaśmanastṛṇā dahan
If they churn with arms, the steed delights; if not, the rapid charger falters in the woods. The wondrous Nasatya horses, not restrained, encompassed with stones and grass and burnt wood.

जा॒तो अ॒ग्नी रो॑चते॒ चेकि॑तानो वा॒जी विप्रः॑ कविश॒स्तः सु॒दानुः॑ । यं दे॒वास॒ ईड्यं॑ विश्व॒विदं॑ हव्य॒वाह॒मद॑धुरध्व॒रेषु॑
jāto agnī rocate cekitāno vājī vipraḥ kaviśastaḥ sudānuḥ yaṃ devāsa īḍyaṃ viśvavidaṃ havyavāhamadadhuradhvareṣu
Born, Agni shone; the youthful chargers, swift and splendid, the seers sang with praise. Whom the gods accepted as the bright all-knowing oblation-bearer, they placed at the hearths.

सीद॑ होतः॒ स्व उ॑ लो॒के चि॑कि॒त्वान्सा॒दया॑ य॒ज्ञं सु॑कृ॒तस्य॒ योनौ॑ । दे॒वा॒वीर्दे॒वान्ह॒विषा॑ यजा॒स्यग्ने॑ बृ॒हद्यज॑माने॒ वयो॑ धाः
sīda hotaḥ sva u loke cikitvānsādayā yajñaṃ sukṛtasya yonau devāvīrdevānhaviṣā yajāsyagne bṛhadyajamāne vayo dhāḥ
The oblation offered sat down in the world and became the fruitful womb of the well-made sacrifice’s source. Gods and heroes, gods by offerings, when the great rite was performed, assumed the portions.

कृ॒णोत॑ धू॒मं वृष॑णं सखा॒योऽस्रे॑धन्त इतन॒ वाज॒मच्छ॑ । अ॒यम॒ग्निः पृ॑तना॒षाट् सु॒वीरो॒ येन॑ दे॒वासो॒ अस॑हन्त॒ दस्यू॑न्
kṛṇota dhūmaṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ sakhāyo'sredhanta itana vājamaccha ayamagniḥ pṛtanāṣāṭ suvīro yena devāso asahanta dasyūn
He made smoke, the bull Vriṣan, friends mixed with juices; thus Vājam flowed here. This Agni, with strong guards, the brave one by whom the devas overcame the hostile Dasyus.

अ॒यं ते॒ योनि॑रृ॒त्वियो॒ यतो॑ जा॒तो अरो॑चथाः । तं जा॒नन्न॑ग्न॒ आ सी॒दाथा॑ नो वर्धया॒ गिरः॑
ayaṃ te yonirṛtviyo yato jāto arocathāḥ taṃ jānannagna ā sīdāthā no vardhayā giraḥ
This is the womb, the source whence the bright ones were born. Agni who knows, make him known to us; increase our voice (praise).

तनू॒नपा॑दुच्यते॒ गर्भ॑ आसु॒रो नरा॒शंसो॑ भवति॒ यद्वि॒जाय॑ते । मा॒त॒रिश्वा॒ यदमि॑मीत मा॒तरि॒ वात॑स्य॒ सर्गो॑ अभव॒त्सरी॑मणि
tanūnapāducyate garbha āsuro narāśaṃso bhavati yadvijāyate mātariśvā yadamimīta mātari vātasya sargo abhavatsarīmaṇi
The body was named, the womb became quick; a hostile man becomes the people's reproach when he is born. May the mother of the winds not make this my mother — the origin of wind came to be.

सु॒नि॒र्मथा॒ निर्म॑थितः सुनि॒धा निहि॑तः क॒विः । अग्ने॑ स्वध्व॒रा कृ॑णु दे॒वान्दे॑वय॒ते य॑ज
sunirmathā nirmathitaḥ sunidhā nihitaḥ kaviḥ agne svadhvarā kṛṇu devāndevayate yaja
Well churned, well beaten down, laid low, the poet is set. Agni, make the offerings' doors; create the gods, proclaim the godlike rites to be performed.

अजी॑जनन्न॒मृतं॒ मर्त्या॑सोऽस्रे॒माणं॑ त॒रणिं॑ वी॒ळुज॑म्भम् । दश॒ स्वसा॑रो अ॒ग्रुवः॑ समी॒चीः पुमां॑सं जा॒तम॒भि सं र॑भन्ते
ajījanannamṛtaṃ martyāso'sremāṇaṃ taraṇiṃ vīḷujambham daśa svasāro agruvaḥ samīcīḥ pumāṃsaṃ jātamabhi saṃ rabhante
The undying produced immortality, the mortal's stream was embraced, crossing the flood with the plaited mass. Ten sister-forms, foremost leaders, with oblations the limbs of man were born and assembled.

प्र स॒प्तहो॑ता सन॒काद॑रोचत मा॒तुरु॒पस्थे॒ यदशो॑च॒दूध॑नि । न नि मि॑षति सु॒रणो॑ दि॒वेदि॑वे॒ यदसु॑रस्य ज॒ठरा॒दजा॑यत
pra saptahotā sanakādarocata māturupasthe yadaśocadūdhani na ni miṣati suraṇo divedive yadasurasya jaṭharādajāyata
The seven sacrificers Sanakā drove forth the mother placed by the breast who lamented day and night. The sura does not mix in the twofold day that which was born of the godless belly.

अ॒मि॒त्रा॒युधो॑ म॒रुता॑मिव प्र॒याः प्र॑थम॒जा ब्रह्म॑णो॒ विश्व॒मिद्वि॑दुः । द्यु॒म्नव॒द्ब्रह्म॑ कुशि॒कास॒ एरि॑र॒ एक॑एको॒ दमे॑ अ॒ग्निं समी॑धिरे
amitrāyudho marutāmiva prayāḥ prathamajā brahmaṇo viśvamidviduḥ dyumnavadbrahma kuśikāsa erira ekaeko dame agniṃ samīdhire
Like the Maruts with enemy-weapons, born first, they understood Brahman. They, like the atmosphere with Brahman, Kushika and Erira, one by one restrained Agni at the stake.
Rigveda 3.029.16

यद॒द्य त्वा॑ प्रय॒ति य॒ज्ञे अ॒स्मिन्होत॑श्चिकि॒त्वोऽवृ॑णीमही॒ह । ध्रु॒वम॑या ध्रु॒वमु॒ताश॑मिष्ठाः प्रजा॒नन्वि॒द्वाँ उप॑ याहि॒ सोम॑म्
yadadya tvā prayati yajñe asminhotaścikitvo'vṛṇīmahīha dhruvamayā dhruvamutāśamiṣṭhāḥ prajānanvidvām̐ upa yāhi somam
When you go to the sacrifice and, skilled in the sacrificial rites, approach the place of offering, steady and unerring, bestower of steadiness, come to Soma, who grants offspring and knows the people.
