धा॒रा॒व॒रा म॒रुतो॑ धृ॒ष्ण्वो॑जसो मृ॒गा न भी॒मास्तवि॑षीभिर॒र्चिनः॑ । अ॒ग्नयो॒ न शु॑शुचा॒ना ऋ॑जी॒षिणो॒ भृमिं॒ धम॑न्तो॒ अप॒ गा अ॑वृण्वत
dhārāvarā maruto dhṛṣṇvojaso mṛgā na bhīmāstaviṣībhirarcinaḥ agnayo na śuśucānā ṛjīṣiṇo bhṛmiṃ dhamanto apa gā avṛṇvata
The Maruts, striking like torrents, with daring vigour and radiant strength like swift stags, terrible with fierce forms, poured forth and uncovered the waters with blazing weapons around Agni.

द्यावो॒ न स्तृभि॑श्चितयन्त खा॒दिनो॒ व्य१॒॑भ्रिया॒ न द्यु॑तयन्त वृ॒ष्टयः॑ । रु॒द्रो यद्वो॑ मरुतो रुक्मवक्षसो॒ वृषाज॑नि॒ पृश्न्याः॑ शु॒क्र ऊध॑नि
dyāvo na stṛbhiścitayanta khādino vya1bhriyā na dyutayanta vṛṣṭayaḥ rudro yadvo maruto rukmavakṣaso vṛṣājani pṛśnyāḥ śukra ūdhani
The heavens did not restrain their swift floods, nor did the clouds veil their splendour; Rudra — the Maruts with golden breasts — yoked the bulls of the bright steeds and uplifted the shining milky streams.

उ॒क्षन्ते॒ अश्वा॒ँ अत्या॑ँ इवा॒जिषु॑ न॒दस्य॒ कर्णै॑स्तुरयन्त आ॒शुभिः॑ । हिर॑ण्यशिप्रा मरुतो॒ दवि॑ध्वतः पृ॒क्षं या॑थ॒ पृष॑तीभिः समन्यवः
ukṣante aśvām̐ atyām̐ ivājiṣu nadasya karṇaisturayanta āśubhiḥ hiraṇyaśiprā maruto davidhvataḥ pṛkṣaṃ yātha pṛṣatībhiḥ samanyavaḥ
The horses neighing rushed through the hymns like heroes; with ears like drums they scattered the ill-omened ones. The golden-spotted Marut cleft the two teams, as they assembled like the moving soil.

पृ॒क्षे ता विश्वा॒ भुव॑ना ववक्षिरे मि॒त्राय॑ वा॒ सद॒मा जी॒रदा॑नवः । पृष॑दश्वासो अनव॒भ्ररा॑धस ऋजि॒प्यासो॒ न व॒युने॑षु धू॒र्षदः॑
pṛkṣe tā viśvā bhuvanā vavakṣire mitrāya vā sadamā jīradānavaḥ pṛṣadaśvāso anavabhrarādhasa ṛjipyāso na vayuneṣu dhūrṣadaḥ
On the plain they spread wide all the worlds; they bestowed them upon Mitra and the everlasting ones, joyous and victorious. Breath-steeds unbound the cloudless seats, the straight ones that do not falter in the blasts of wind.

इन्ध॑न्वभिर्धे॒नुभी॑ र॒प्शदू॑धभिरध्व॒स्मभिः॑ प॒थिभि॑र्भ्राजदृष्टयः । आ हं॒सासो॒ न स्वस॑राणि गन्तन॒ मधो॒र्मदा॑य मरुतः समन्यवः
indhanvabhirdhenubhī rapśadūdhabhiradhvasmabhiḥ pathibhirbhrājadṛṣṭayaḥ ā haṃsāso na svasarāṇi gantana madhormadāya marutaḥ samanyavaḥ
With flaming shafts and swift kine, with smeared oils and radiant stones, they shone along the paths; the swan-like ones did not go to their own clutches — the Maruts joined in the honeyed madness of earth-offerings.

आ नो॒ ब्रह्मा॑णि मरुतः समन्यवो न॒रां न शंसः॒ सव॑नानि गन्तन । अश्वा॑मिव पिप्यत धे॒नुमूध॑नि॒ कर्ता॒ धियं॑ जरि॒त्रे वाज॑पेशसम्
ā no brahmāṇi marutaḥ samanyavo narāṃ na śaṃsaḥ savanāni gantana aśvāmiva pipyata dhenumūdhani kartā dhiyaṃ jaritre vājapeśasam
The Maruts joined us on the high sacrifices; they came to the people, praising the swift summons. Like mares who sip milk, they drew near to the cow-cares; the doer of thought brought forth the strength for the Vaja-oblation.

तं नो॑ दात मरुतो वा॒जिनं॒ रथ॑ आपा॒नं ब्रह्म॑ चि॒तय॑द्दि॒वेदि॑वे । इषं॑ स्तो॒तृभ्यो॑ वृ॒जने॑षु का॒रवे॑ स॒निं मे॒धामरि॑ष्टं दु॒ष्टरं॒ सहः॑
taṃ no dāta maruto vājinaṃ ratha āpānaṃ brahma citayaddivedive iṣaṃ stotṛbhyo vṛjaneṣu kārave saniṃ medhāmariṣṭaṃ duṣṭaraṃ sahaḥ
Grant us, O Marut, the giver of wealth, the chariot, the flowing waters and wise Brahman; daily make these offerings manifest. O praised ones, grant excellence in the acts of worship, bestow intellect and ward off adversity.

यद्यु॒ञ्जते॑ म॒रुतो॑ रु॒क्मव॑क्ष॒सोऽश्वा॒न्रथे॑षु॒ भग॒ आ सु॒दान॑वः । धे॒नुर्न शिश्वे॒ स्वस॑रेषु पिन्वते॒ जना॑य रा॒तह॑विषे म॒हीमिष॑म्
yadyuñjate maruto rukmavakṣaso'śvānratheṣu bhaga ā sudānavaḥ dhenurna śiśve svasareṣu pinvate janāya rātahaviṣe mahīmiṣam
When the Marut with golden breast urged on the coursers in chariots, they struck down hostile foes and the strong-smiting demons. The kine did not calve into their own folds; they bestowed the world-dominion for the nocturnal rite.

यो नो॑ मरुतो वृ॒कता॑ति॒ मर्त्यो॑ रि॒पुर्द॒धे व॑सवो॒ रक्ष॑ता रि॒षः । व॒र्तय॑त॒ तपु॑षा च॒क्रिया॒भि तमव॑ रुद्रा अ॒शसो॑ हन्तना॒ वधः॑
yo no maruto vṛkatāti martyo ripurdadhe vasavo rakṣatā riṣaḥ vartayata tapuṣā cakriyābhi tamava rudrā aśaso hantanā vadhaḥ
The Marut who made the mortal wolfish for our enemy—O Vasus, protect us, O seers. They sustained mighty rites; Rudra and the fierce ones slew with their swift might the slayer of falsehood.

चि॒त्रं तद्वो॑ मरुतो॒ याम॑ चेकिते॒ पृश्न्या॒ यदूध॒रप्या॒पयो॑ दु॒हुः । यद्वा॑ नि॒दे नव॑मानस्य रुद्रियास्त्रि॒तं जरा॑य जुर॒ताम॑दाभ्याः
citraṃ tadvo maruto yāma cekite pṛśnyā yadūdharapyāpayo duhuḥ yadvā nide navamānasya rudriyāstritaṃ jarāya juratāmadābhyāḥ
Wonderful are your paths, O Marut: by the bright steeds, by the spotted ones that lift forth the milk and yield streams. When the new one of sleep lay down, the Rudran powers, threefold, rent away the old cares and drove off the sorrows of our foes.

तान्वो॑ म॒हो म॒रुत॑ एव॒याव्नो॒ विष्णो॑रे॒षस्य॑ प्रभृ॒थे ह॑वामहे । हिर॑ण्यवर्णान्ककु॒हान्य॒तस्रु॑चो ब्रह्म॒ण्यन्तः॒ शंस्यं॒ राध॑ ईमहे
tānvo maho maruta evayāvno viṣṇoreṣasya prabhṛthe havāmahe hiraṇyavarṇānkakuhānyatasruco brahmaṇyantaḥ śaṃsyaṃ rādha īmahe
Great are those Maruts and mighty with Vishnu’s power; we invoke them with offerings. We praise the golden-coloured, sweet-voiced, interior Brahman who is to be glorified within.

ते दश॑ग्वाः प्रथ॒मा य॒ज्ञमू॑हिरे॒ ते नो॑ हिन्वन्तू॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु । उ॒षा न रा॒मीर॑रु॒णैरपो॑र्णुते म॒हो ज्योति॑षा शुच॒ता गोअ॑र्णसा
te daśagvāḥ prathamā yajñamūhire te no hinvantūṣaso vyuṣṭiṣu uṣā na rāmīraruṇairaporṇute maho jyotiṣā śucatā goarṇasā
They, the ten-voiced, first established the sacrifice; may they slay for us the enemies that lie in ambush. Dawn, born of rosy shafts, yields not to the dark; great is her pure light with cattle-horns of splendour.

ते क्षो॒णीभि॑ररु॒णेभि॒र्नाञ्जिभी॑ रु॒द्रा ऋ॒तस्य॒ सद॑नेषु वावृधुः । नि॒मेघ॑माना॒ अत्ये॑न॒ पाज॑सा सुश्च॒न्द्रं वर्णं॑ दधिरे सु॒पेश॑सम्
te kṣoṇībhiraruṇebhirnāñjibhī rudrā ṛtasya sadaneṣu vāvṛdhuḥ nimeghamānā atyena pājasā suścandraṃ varṇaṃ dadhire supeśasam
They, with ruddy shafts and red steeds, grew in the houses of Rta; like cloudless ones they bore the moon’s bright form with shining splendour for the well-equipped oblation.

ताँ इ॑या॒नो महि॒ वरू॑थमू॒तय॒ उप॒ घेदे॒ना नम॑सा गृणीमसि । त्रि॒तो न यान्पञ्च॒ होतॄ॑न॒भिष्ट॑य आव॒वर्त॒दव॑राञ्च॒क्रियाव॑से
tām̐ iyāno mahi varūthamūtaya upa ghedenā namasā gṛṇīmasi trito na yānpañca hotṝnabhiṣṭaya āvavartadavarāñcakriyāvase
I bow to those great ones who, moving in threefold and fivefold courses, went round with the invokers and the priests for the wished oblations; I praise them with reverent homage.

यया॑ र॒ध्रं पा॒रय॒थात्यंहो॒ यया॑ नि॒दो मु॒ञ्चथ॑ वन्दि॒तार॑म् । अ॒र्वाची॒ सा म॑रुतो॒ या व॑ ऊ॒तिरो षु वा॒श्रेव॑ सुम॒तिर्जि॑गातु
yayā radhraṃ pārayathātyaṃho yayā nido muñcatha vanditāram arvācī sā maruto yā va ūtiro ṣu vāśreva sumatirjigātu
By whom the bolt came forth and by whom sleep is released — that Marut is ours. She, the swift one, Marut, who rose as helper or as ascent, may she grant radiant good counsel and victorious strength.
