तमु॑ ष्टुहि॒ यो अ॒भिभू॑त्योजा व॒न्वन्नवा॑तः पुरुहू॒त इन्द्रः॑ । अषा॑ळ्हमु॒ग्रं सह॑मानमा॒भिर्गी॒र्भिर्व॑र्ध वृष॒भं च॑र्षणी॒नाम्
tamu ṣṭuhi yo abhibhūtyojā vanvannavātaḥ puruhūta indraḥ aṣāḷhamugraṃ sahamānamābhirgīrbhirvardha vṛṣabhaṃ carṣaṇīnām
Praise to him who, with mighty fury, came forth as the new‑invoker, Indra the sacrificer. He, fierce and equal‑minded, with inspired hymns increased the bull among the charioteers.

स यु॒ध्मः सत्वा॑ खज॒कृत्स॒मद्वा॑ तुविम्र॒क्षो न॑दनु॒माँ ऋ॑जी॒षी । बृ॒हद्रे॑णु॒श्च्यव॑नो॒ मानु॑षीणा॒मेकः॑ कृष्टी॒नाम॑भवत्स॒हावा॑
sa yudhmaḥ satvā khajakṛtsamadvā tuvimrakṣo nadanumām̐ ṛjīṣī bṛhadreṇuścyavano mānuṣīṇāmekaḥ kṛṣṭīnāmabhavatsahāvā
He fought, the strong one, he who made shafts, the wise seer ruling the battle—like a herd‑leader among men he became one, nourishing the ploughers of the fields together with his company.

त्वं ह॒ नु त्यद॑दमायो॒ दस्यू॒ँरेकः॑ कृ॒ष्टीर॑वनो॒रार्या॑य । अस्ति॑ स्वि॒न्नु वी॒र्यं१॒॑ तत्त॑ इन्द्र॒ न स्वि॑दस्ति॒ तदृ॑तु॒था वि वो॑चः
tvaṃ ha nu tyadadamāyo dasyūm̐rekaḥ kṛṣṭīravanorāryāya asti svinnu vīryaṃ1 tatta indra na svidasti tadṛtuthā vi vocaḥ
Now do you possess that strength, one‑man force against the Dasyus; there is indeed heroic might — Indra does not deny it; thus the seers declared it.

सदिद्धि ते॑ तुविजा॒तस्य॒ मन्ये॒ सहः॑ सहिष्ठ तुर॒तस्तु॒रस्य॑ । उ॒ग्रमु॒ग्रस्य॑ त॒वस॒स्तवी॒योऽर॑ध्रस्य रध्र॒तुरो॑ बभूव
sadiddhi te tuvijātasya manye sahaḥ sahiṣṭha turatasturasya ugramugrasya tavasastavīyo'radhrasya radhraturo babhūva
Your fame, O mighty one, I deem for the allied kin of the brave; swift was the vigor of the fierce, the adorning power of the strong became vigorous and accomplished.

तन्नः॑ प्र॒त्नं स॒ख्यम॑स्तु यु॒ष्मे इ॒त्था वद॑द्भिर्व॒लमङ्गि॑रोभिः । हन्न॑च्युतच्युद्दस्मे॒षय॑न्तमृ॒णोः पुरो॒ वि दुरो॑ अस्य॒ विश्वाः॑
tannaḥ pratnaṃ sakhyamastu yuṣme itthā vadadbhirvalamaṅgirobhiḥ hannacyutacyuddasmeṣayantamṛṇoḥ puro vi duro asya viśvāḥ
May there be friendship for us in that striving; thus spoke the Angirasen with strong words. Strike down the foe who afflicted us; may he who breaks not fall back before this world.

स हि धी॒भिर्हव्यो॒ अस्त्यु॒ग्र ई॑शान॒कृन्म॑ह॒ति वृ॑त्र॒तूर्ये॑ । स तो॒कसा॑ता॒ तन॑ये॒ स व॒ज्री वि॑तन्त॒साय्यो॑ अभवत्स॒मत्सु॑
sa hi dhībhirhavyo astyugra īśānakṛnmahati vṛtratūrye sa tokasātā tanaye sa vajrī vitantasāyyo abhavatsamatsu
He indeed, with wise hymns, became the worthy priest, the powerful ruler, slayer of Vṛtra. He, swift as an arrow, was born as a son; he became strong and spread his might in the gatherings.

स म॒ज्मना॒ जनि॑म॒ मानु॑षाणा॒मम॑र्त्येन॒ नाम्नाति॒ प्र स॑र्स्रे । स द्यु॒म्नेन॒ स शव॑सो॒त रा॒या स वी॒र्ये॑ण॒ नृत॑मः॒ समो॑काः
sa majmanā janima mānuṣāṇāmamartyena nāmnāti pra sarsre sa dyumnena sa śavasota rāyā sa vīryeṇa nṛtamaḥ samokāḥ
He, begetting men by his firm fame, is named by mortals; with heaven and the abode of the dead he is celebrated. By his splendour, by heroic vigour, the rites were accomplished alike.

स यो न मु॒हे न मिथू॒ जनो॒ भूत्सु॒मन्तु॑नामा॒ चुमु॑रिं॒ धुनिं॑ च । वृ॒णक्पिप्रुं॒ शम्ब॑रं॒ शुष्ण॒मिन्द्रः॑ पु॒रां च्यौ॒त्नाय॑ श॒यथा॑य॒ नू चि॑त्
sa yo na muhe na mithū jano bhūtsumantunāmā cumuriṃ dhuniṃ ca vṛṇakpipruṃ śambaraṃ śuṣṇamindraḥ purāṃ cyautnāya śayathāya nū cit
He who is not foolish, not deceitful among men, who upholds beings by name, who stirs and strikes — choose, O Indra, the firm strong ox, the mighty, for puissant care; now bolster the host.

उ॒दाव॑ता॒ त्वक्ष॑सा॒ पन्य॑सा च वृत्र॒हत्या॑य॒ रथ॑मिन्द्र तिष्ठ । धि॒ष्व वज्रं॒ हस्त॒ आ द॑क्षिण॒त्राभि प्र म॑न्द पुरुदत्र मा॒याः
udāvatā tvakṣasā panyasā ca vṛtrahatyāya rathamindra tiṣṭha dhiṣva vajraṃ hasta ā dakṣiṇatrābhi pra manda purudatra māyāḥ
Having invoked with uplifted arm, with the power of the slayer of Vṛtra stand forth, O Indra, like a chariot. Grasp the thunderbolt in your hand and with the right hand cast down the host; dispel illusion.

अ॒ग्निर्न शुष्कं॒ वन॑मिन्द्र हे॒ती रक्षो॒ नि ध॑क्ष्य॒शनि॒र्न भी॒मा । ग॒म्भी॒रय॑ ऋ॒ष्वया॒ यो रु॒रोजाध्वा॑नयद्दुरि॒ता द॒म्भय॑च्च
agnirna śuṣkaṃ vanamindra hetī rakṣo ni dhakṣyaśanirna bhīmā gambhīraya ṛṣvayā yo rurojādhvānayadduritā dambhayacca
O Indra, fire does not dry the wood alone; you, protector, will skilfully guard against the bolt and the terrible. Deeply rooted, with inspired hymns, by the roar of the seers drive away the proud deceit and arrogance.

आ स॒हस्रं॑ प॒थिभि॑रिन्द्र रा॒या तुवि॑द्युम्न तुवि॒वाजे॑भिर॒र्वाक् । या॒हि सू॑नो सहसो॒ यस्य॒ नू चि॒ददे॑व॒ ईशे॑ पुरुहूत॒ योतोः॑
ā sahasraṃ pathibhirindra rāyā tuvidyumna tuvivājebhirarvāk yāhi sūno sahaso yasya nū cidadeva īśe puruhūta yotoḥ
May Indra, with his thousand paths and shining rays, be near with songs and spoken praise. O youthful son of strength, come with the hosts whose might is unmeasured — the priest who invokes the gods.

प्र तु॑विद्यु॒म्नस्य॒ स्थवि॑रस्य॒ घृष्वे॑र्दि॒वो र॑रप्शे महि॒मा पृ॑थि॒व्याः । नास्य॒ शत्रु॒र्न प्र॑ति॒मान॑मस्ति॒ न प्र॑ति॒ष्ठिः पु॑रुमा॒यस्य॒ सह्योः॑
pra tuvidyumnasya sthavirasya ghṛṣverdivo rarapśe mahimā pṛthivyāḥ nāsya śatrurna pratimānamasti na pratiṣṭhiḥ purumāyasya sahyoḥ
For the glory of that resplendent, ancient one of the thunderbolts, the fragrance of heaven poured forth — the greatness of earth. He has no enemy, no opposing force; no obstruction stands against the manly might of his pair.

प्र तत्ते॑ अ॒द्या कर॑णं कृ॒तं भू॒त्कुत्सं॒ यदा॒युम॑तिथि॒ग्वम॑स्मै । पु॒रू स॒हस्रा॒ नि शि॑शा अ॒भि क्षामुत्तूर्व॑याणं धृष॒ता नि॑नेथ
pra tatte adyā karaṇaṃ kṛtaṃ bhūtkutsaṃ yadāyumatithigvamasmai purū sahasrā ni śiśā abhi kṣāmuttūrvayāṇaṃ dhṛṣatā ninetha
Hence today your deed was made, O glorious one, the reproach of the being was struck when the guest came to us. A thousand warriors pressed forward; they rose up, bearing the tribesman, firmly set, they placed him down.

अनु॒ त्वाहि॑घ्ने॒ अध॑ देव दे॒वा मद॒न्विश्वे॑ क॒वित॑मं कवी॒नाम् । करो॒ यत्र॒ वरि॑वो बाधि॒ताय॑ दि॒वे जना॑य त॒न्वे॑ गृणा॒नः
anu tvāhighne adha deva devā madanviśve kavitamaṃ kavīnām karo yatra varivo bādhitāya dive janāya tanve gṛṇānaḥ
Hither, Agni, O lord of gods, follow all poets’ hymns. Do where the waters press down for the afflicted at day—people to be generous, give strength to the song.

अनु॒ द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी तत्त॒ ओजोऽम॑र्त्या जिहत इन्द्र दे॒वाः । कृ॒ष्वा कृ॑त्नो॒ अकृ॑तं॒ यत्ते॒ अस्त्यु॒क्थं नवी॑यो जनयस्व य॒ज्ञैः
anu dyāvāpṛthivī tatta ojo'martyā jihata indra devāḥ kṛṣvā kṛtno akṛtaṃ yatte astyukthaṃ navīyo janayasva yajñaiḥ
You conquered the heavens and earth; O heroic mortal, the gods slew; with what you have made and not made, bring forth renewed strength—beget anew with rites.
