तं प्र॒त्नथा॑ पू॒र्वथा॑ वि॒श्वथे॒मथा॑ ज्ये॒ष्ठता॑तिं बर्हि॒षदं॑ स्व॒र्विद॑म् । प्र॒ती॒ची॒नं वृ॒जनं॑ दोहसे गि॒राशुं जय॑न्त॒मनु॒ यासु॒ वर्ध॑से
taṃ pratnathā pūrvathā viśvathemathā jyeṣṭhatātiṃ barhiṣadaṃ svarvidam pratīcīnaṃ vṛjanaṃ dohase girāśuṃ jayantamanu yāsu vardhase
Urge him forth as before, earlier, as the most eminent of the singers, bringing this sacred knowledge to light. I milk the eastern herds on the mountain slopes; I advance victorious where you increase.

श्रि॒ये सु॒दृशी॒रुप॑रस्य॒ याः स्व॑र्वि॒रोच॑मानः क॒कुभा॑मचो॒दते॑ । सु॒गो॒पा अ॑सि॒ न दभा॑य सुक्रतो प॒रो मा॒याभि॑रृ॒त आ॑स॒ नाम॑ ते
śriye sudṛśīruparasya yāḥ svarvirocamānaḥ kakubhāmacodate sugopā asi na dabhāya sukrato paro māyābhirṛta āsa nāma te
O radiant ones like prosperity, those whose heroic light shines in heaven and who rouse the chest — you are good herdsmen; do not, O founders of deeds, speak falsehoods about my name.

अत्यं॑ ह॒विः स॑चते॒ सच्च॒ धातु॒ चारि॑ष्टगातुः॒ स होता॑ सहो॒भरिः॑ । प्र॒सर्स्रा॑णो॒ अनु॑ ब॒र्हिर्वृषा॒ शिशु॒र्मध्ये॒ युवा॒जरो॑ वि॒स्रुहा॑ हि॒तः
atyaṃ haviḥ sacate sacca dhātu cāriṣṭagātuḥ sa hotā sahobhariḥ prasarsrāṇo anu barhirvṛṣā śiśurmadhye yuvājaro visruhā hitaḥ
The offering grew exceedingly, the true wealth flowed from fourfold channels; the pair of kine stood together with abundant milk. The spreading wood sent forth young shoots; in the midst the strong‑ager loosened and poured forth.

प्र व॑ ए॒ते सु॒युजो॒ याम॑न्नि॒ष्टये॒ नीची॑र॒मुष्मै॑ य॒म्य॑ ऋता॒वृधः॑ । सु॒यन्तु॑भिः सर्वशा॒सैर॒भीशु॑भिः॒ क्रिवि॒र्नामा॑नि प्रव॒णे मु॑षायति
pra va ete suyujo yāmanniṣṭaye nīcīramuṣmai yamya ṛtāvṛdhaḥ suyantubhiḥ sarvaśāsairabhīśubhiḥ krivirnāmāni pravaṇe muṣāyati
Together they went forth for the established rite, fitly arranged and set; may they be well ruled by all powers and adorned with auspicious names, turning to the man of the spoon.

सं॒जर्भु॑राण॒स्तरु॑भिः सुते॒गृभं॑ वया॒किनं॑ चि॒त्तग॑र्भासु सु॒स्वरुः॑ । धा॒र॒वा॒केष्वृ॑जुगाथ शोभसे॒ वर्ध॑स्व॒ पत्नी॑र॒भि जी॒वो अ॑ध्व॒रे
saṃjarbhurāṇastarubhiḥ sutegṛbhaṃ vayākinaṃ cittagarbhāsu susvaruḥ dhāravākeṣvṛjugātha śobhase vardhasva patnīrabhi jīvo adhvare
Joined with young saplings and leafy trunks, the heavenly household rejoices; may the wives flourish, may life thrive along the roads.

या॒दृगे॒व ददृ॑शे ता॒दृगु॑च्यते॒ सं छा॒यया॑ दधिरे सि॒ध्रया॒प्स्वा । म॒हीम॒स्मभ्य॑मुरु॒षामु॒रु ज्रयो॑ बृ॒हत्सु॒वीर॒मन॑पच्युतं॒ सहः॑
yādṛgeva dadṛśe tādṛgucyate saṃ chāyayā dadhire sidhrayāpsvā mahīmasmabhyamuruṣāmuru jrayo bṛhatsuvīramanapacyutaṃ sahaḥ
As one sees a like thing, so is it called; they placed like shade, like strong waters. Grant us vast earths; may great heroes, broad and unstirring, be with us.

वेत्यग्रु॒र्जनि॑वा॒न्वा अति॒ स्पृधः॑ समर्य॒ता मन॑सा॒ सूर्यः॑ क॒विः । घ्रं॒सं रक्ष॑न्तं॒ परि॑ वि॒श्वतो॒ गय॑म॒स्माकं॒ शर्म॑ वनव॒त्स्वाव॑सुः
vetyagrurjanivānvā ati spṛdhaḥ samaryatā manasā sūryaḥ kaviḥ ghraṃsaṃ rakṣantaṃ pari viśvato gayamasmākaṃ śarma vanavatsvāvasuḥ
The seer‑poet, like a bull bellowing, excels in rivalry; by mind is the sun a sage. The fragrant one protects us around; may our fame go forth, sheltering in forest pastures.

ज्यायां॑सम॒स्य य॒तुन॑स्य के॒तुन॑ ऋषिस्व॒रं च॑रति॒ यासु॒ नाम॑ ते । या॒दृश्मि॒न्धायि॒ तम॑प॒स्यया॑ विद॒द्य उ॑ स्व॒यं वह॑ते॒ सो अरं॑ करत्
jyāyāṃsamasya yatunasya ketuna ṛṣisvaraṃ carati yāsu nāma te yādṛśmindhāyi tamapasyayā vidadya u svayaṃ vahate so araṃ karat
Greater than his yoke the binding cord of the seers moves where your names are; what I so gain in devotion that worshipper bears away — he made that a noble portion.

स॒मु॒द्रमा॑सा॒मव॑ तस्थे अग्रि॒मा न रि॑ष्यति॒ सव॑नं॒ यस्मि॒न्नाय॑ता । अत्रा॒ न हार्दि॑ क्रव॒णस्य॑ रेजते॒ यत्रा॑ म॒तिर्वि॒द्यते॑ पूत॒बन्ध॑नी
samudramāsāmava tasthe agrimā na riṣyati savanaṃ yasminnāyatā atrā na hārdi kravaṇasya rejate yatrā matirvidyate pūtabandhanī
The ocean‑measured waters stood afar; the foremost does not pass where the assembly has entered. Here does not the heart of the seer bleed; where understanding is, ties are pure.

स हि क्ष॒त्रस्य॑ मन॒सस्य॒ चित्ति॑भिरेवाव॒दस्य॑ यज॒तस्य॒ सध्रेः॑ । अ॒व॒त्सा॒रस्य॑ स्पृणवाम॒ रण्व॑भिः॒ शवि॑ष्ठं॒ वाजं॑ वि॒दुषा॑ चि॒दर्ध्य॑म्
sa hi kṣatrasya manasasya cittibhirevāvadasya yajatasya sadhreḥ avatsārasya spṛṇavāma raṇvabhiḥ śaviṣṭhaṃ vājaṃ viduṣā cidardhyam
He is indeed the boundary of the realm, even the mind’s surety; by the devout he is called the oblation. We have sought the essence with men of battle, the choicest wealth known to the wise.

श्ये॒न आ॑सा॒मदि॑तिः क॒क्ष्यो॒३॒॑ मदो॑ वि॒श्ववा॑रस्य यज॒तस्य॑ मा॒यिनः॑ । सम॒न्यम॑न्यमर्थय॒न्त्येत॑वे वि॒दुर्वि॒षाणं॑ परि॒पान॒मन्ति॒ ते
śyena āsāmaditiḥ kakṣyo3 mado viśvavārasya yajatasya māyinaḥ samanyamanyamarthayantyetave vidurviṣāṇaṃ paripānamanti te
Desiring the throne, the eagles sought the glory of the sacrifice; the mighty, the befooling ones, arrange other meanings — they sharpen hostile darts and surround with venom.

स॒दा॒पृ॒णो य॑ज॒तो वि द्विषो॑ वधीद्बाहुवृ॒क्तः श्रु॑त॒वित्तर्यो॑ वः॒ सचा॑ । उ॒भा स वरा॒ प्रत्ये॑ति॒ भाति॑ च॒ यदीं॑ ग॒णं भज॑ते सुप्र॒याव॑भिः
sadāpṛṇo yajato vi dviṣo vadhīdbāhuvṛktaḥ śrutavittaryo vaḥ sacā ubhā sa varā pratyeti bhāti ca yadīṃ gaṇaṃ bhajate suprayāvabhiḥ
Ever favorable to the sacrificer, he who knows speaks against the enemy with arm‑strength; both these excellences come back — he shines, if a people serves him with good rites.

सु॒त॒म्भ॒रो यज॑मानस्य॒ सत्प॑ति॒र्विश्वा॑सा॒मूधः॒ स धि॒यामु॒दञ्च॑नः । भर॑द्धे॒नू रस॑वच्छिश्रिये॒ पयो॑ऽनुब्रुवा॒णो अध्ये॑ति॒ न स्व॒पन्
sutambharo yajamānasya satpatirviśvāsāmūdhaḥ sa dhiyāmudañcanaḥ bharaddhenū rasavacchiśriye payo'nubruvāṇo adhyeti na svapan
He who bears the pillar of the sacrificer, lord of the rite, confidence of all the peoples, is he who delights the mind and face. By the well‑fed cow’s milk and clarified butter the drinkers are nourished; he approaches not to sleep.

यो जा॒गार॒ तमृचः॑ कामयन्ते॒ यो जा॒गार॒ तमु॒ सामा॑नि यन्ति । यो जा॒गार॒ तम॒यं सोम॑ आह॒ तवा॒हम॑स्मि स॒ख्ये न्यो॑काः
yo jāgāra tamṛcaḥ kāmayante yo jāgāra tamu sāmāni yanti yo jāgāra tamayaṃ soma āha tavāhamasmi sakhye nyokāḥ
He who waked the hymn sought the songs; he who waked the hymn goes to the chants. He who waked this hymn brought the soma — I am with you, O allies, ministers.

अ॒ग्निर्जा॑गार॒ तमृचः॑ कामयन्ते॒ऽग्निर्जा॑गार॒ तमु॒ सामा॑नि यन्ति । अ॒ग्निर्जा॑गार॒ तम॒यं सोम॑ आह॒ तवा॒हम॑स्मि स॒ख्ये न्यो॑काः
agnirjāgāra tamṛcaḥ kāmayante'gnirjāgāra tamu sāmāni yanti agnirjāgāra tamayaṃ soma āha tavāhamasmi sakhye nyokāḥ
Agni who waked the hymn sought the hymns; Agni who waked the hymn goes to the chants. Agni who waked this hymn brought the soma — I am with you, O allies, ministers.
