taṃ gūrdhayā svarṇaraṃ devāso devamaratiṃ dadhanvire devatrā havyamohire
They, the gods, placed that glorious golden immortal one in the lofty seat; the threefold divine offering I invoke.

vibhūtarātiṃ vipra citraśociṣamagnimīḷiṣva yanturam asya medhasya somyasya sobhare premadhvarāya pūrvyam
May the splendid, wondrous priest move like radiance across the mighty streams; for this gracious Soma's measure may the former glory come to the road of praise.

We invoke you, the highest god, divine priest, bestower of sacrifice and immortality; auspicious be the discerner of this yajña.

ūrjo napātaṃ subhagaṃ sudīditimagniṃ śreṣṭhaśociṣam sa no mitrasya varuṇasya so apāmā sumnaṃ yakṣate divi
Mighty Urja, radiant drop-born, splendid, most desirous of praise, may he grant us the favour of Mitra and Varuna; he guards the mighty waters in heaven.

yaḥ samidhā ya āhutī yo vedena dadāśa marto agnaye yo namasā svadhvaraḥ
He who, with samidhis (fuel-sticks), offered the libation that the seer put in the Veda to Agni—he is present by reverent homage.

tasyedarvanto raṃhayanta āśavastasya dyumnitamaṃ yaśaḥ na tamaṃho devakṛtaṃ kutaścana na martyakṛtaṃ naśat
His people cleanse the offering, his glorious fame fills the skies; neither that (fame) nor the deed of gods or men shall perish.

May we be with your fires, O Agni, sons full of vigor; you are our noble champions.

praśaṃsamāno atithirna mitriyo'gnī ratho na vedyaḥ tve kṣemāso api santi sādhavastvaṃ rājā rayīṇām
Praising guest-lord Agni, the chariot is not to be known by two; you are the welfare even for us, ruler of herds and men.

He alone, Agni, the ten-door keeper, mortal, comely, is to be praised; he is established among the wise by firm thoughts.

yasya tvamūrdhvo adhvarāya tiṣṭhasi kṣayadvīraḥ sa sādhate so arvadbhiḥ sanitā sa vipanyubhiḥ sa śūraiḥ sanitā kṛtam
He for whom you stand upright and firm — that brave one strives; he is supported by stewards, by leaders, by warriors, accomplished and arrayed.

yasyāgnirvapurgṛhe stomaṃ cano dadhīta viśvavāryaḥ havyā vā veviṣadviṣaḥ
Whose Agni in the house holds the hymn and places the oblation, the all-nurturing one; may he avert poison or grant the fitting offering.

viprasya vā stuvataḥ sahaso yaho makṣūtamasya rātiṣu avodevamuparimartyaṃ kṛdhi vaso vividuṣo vacaḥ
Praise to the sage! From the singer comes the effulgence in nights; the immortal shout rises above—let the wise speak the wealth-bestowing word.

yo agniṃ havyadātibhirnamobhirvā sudakṣamāvivāsati girā vājiraśociṣam
He who gives oblations to Agni with reverence, whether by salutations or by skilled worship, dwells like a famed speaker with potent tongue.

samidhā yo niśitī dāśadaditiṃ dhāmabhirasya martyaḥ viśvetsa dhībhiḥ subhago janām̐ ati dyumnairudna iva tāriṣat
The samidhas that nightly rouse the dawning light are given by mortals to him; all these by firm rites the auspicious people in the skies drew onward like the dawn.

tadagne dyumnamā bhara yatsāsahatsadane kaṃ cidatriṇam manyuṃ janasya dūḍhyaḥ
O Agni, bear not what the sky sustains, nor what the assembly endures, nor the manifold opposing host; the manifold people’s multitude is milked away.

येन॒ चष्टे॒ वरु॑णो मि॒त्रो अ॑र्य॒मा येन॒ नास॑त्या॒ भगः॑ । व॒यं तत्ते॒ शव॑सा गातु॒वित्त॑मा॒ इन्द्र॑त्वोता विधेमहि
yena caṣṭe varuṇo mitro aryamā yena nāsatyā bhagaḥ vayaṃ tatte śavasā gātuvittamā indratvotā vidhemahi
By whom Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman and the wide-winged gods are appeased, by whom the wealth of nostrils is granted — may we, their most devoted singers, perform this ritual with Indra’s impulse.

te ghedagne svādhyo3 ye tvā vipra nidadhire nṛcakṣasam viprāso deva sukratum
O Agni, they struck you with oblations, those most learned priests who set you as leader among men; the priests made you noble in works.

ta idvediṃ subhaga ta āhutiṃ te sotuṃ cakrire divi ta idvājebhirjigyurmahaddhanaṃ ye tve kāmaṃ nyerire
This generous glorious hymn they called the offering; they made it to ascend in heaven. With these oblations they won great wealth, those who came to you seeking desire.

bhadro no agnirāhuto bhadrā rātiḥ subhaga bhadro adhvaraḥ bhadrā uta praśastayaḥ
May Agni called auspicious be to us, auspicious the night, auspicious the bright oblations; auspicious indeed and excellent are your praises.

भ॒द्रं मनः॑ कृणुष्व वृत्र॒तूर्ये॒ येना॑ स॒मत्सु॑ सा॒सहः॑ । अव॑ स्थि॒रा त॑नुहि॒ भूरि॒ शर्ध॑तां व॒नेमा॑ ते अ॒भिष्टि॑भिः
bhadraṃ manaḥ kṛṇuṣva vṛtratūrye yenā samatsu sāsahaḥ ava sthirā tanuhi bhūri śardhatāṃ vanemā te abhiṣṭibhiḥ
Make the mind auspicious, O slayer of Vṛtra, by which that unity was sustained—may that steadfast being be for you; grow abundant strength in the forest with your wishes fulfilled.

I praise the speech worthy of praise, sent by the gods to deathless delight; the chief bringer of the oblation.

tigmajambhāya taruṇāya rājate prayo gāyasyagnaye yaḥ piṃśate sūnṛtābhiḥ suvīryamagnirghṛtebhirāhutaḥ
Agni, like young wood of tigma, shines as a bridegroom for the sacrifice; he, surrounded by golden spoils, the courageous, is invoked with clarified butter.

यदी॑ घृ॒तेभि॒राहु॑तो॒ वाशी॑म॒ग्निर्भर॑त॒ उच्चाव॑ च । असु॑र इव नि॒र्णिज॑म्
yadī ghṛtebhirāhuto vāśīmagnirbharata uccāva ca asura iva nirṇijam
If Agni is invoked with clarified butter, he bears wealth and rises high; like an asura he is stirred up.

यो ह॒व्यान्यैर॑यता॒ मनु॑र्हितो दे॒व आ॒सा सु॑ग॒न्धिना॑ । विवा॑सते॒ वार्या॑णि स्वध्व॒रो होता॑ दे॒वो अम॑र्त्यः
yo havyānyairayatā manurhito deva āsā sugandhinā vivāsate vāryāṇi svadhvaro hotā devo amartyaḥ
He who by other oblations is praised and duly invoked by gods, dwells fragrant; the friendly guardian of the courses, the god not mortal.

यद॑ग्ने॒ मर्त्य॒स्त्वं स्याम॒हं मि॑त्रमहो॒ अम॑र्त्यः । सह॑सः सूनवाहुत
yadagne martyastvaṃ syāmahaṃ mitramaho amartyaḥ sahasaḥ sūnavāhuta
O Agni, if you were mortal, I would be Mitra's great mortal; together hundreds carry the praise-offering.

न त्वा॑ रासीया॒भिश॑स्तये वसो॒ न पा॑प॒त्वाय॑ सन्त्य । न मे॑ स्तो॒ताम॑ती॒वा न दुर्हि॑तः॒ स्याद॑ग्ने॒ न पा॒पया॑
na tvā rāsīyābhiśastaye vaso na pāpatvāya santya na me stotāmatīvā na durhitaḥ syādagne na pāpayā
Not for you are the fatted herds that are stolen, nor are there sins for you; may my praise not be too little nor maligned, O Agni, by sin.

Father, let not a well-born son be hard of heart; O gods, let the oblation come to him—hail the offering.

By your acts, O Agni, with your radiant nights and praised deeds they called you: grant thought, O Vasō, rejoice for my gift.

pra so agne tavotibhiḥ suvīrābhistirate vājabharmabhiḥ yasya tvaṃ sakhyamāvaraḥ
Proceed, O Agni, with your radiant hosts, the brave with treasure-cars and prize-bearing chariots; you are the friend who is uninjured.

tava drapso nīlavānvāśa ṛtviya indhānaḥ siṣṇavā dade tvaṃ mahīnāmuṣasāmasi priyaḥ kṣapo vastuṣu rājasi
May your gleaming drinking-horn, blue-streaked, the season-kindled, be given; you are the beloved ruler of lands, dear for possessions, a king among treasures.

tamāganma sobharayaḥ sahasramuṣkaṃ svabhiṣṭimavase samrājaṃ trāsadasyavam
He came, splendid, bearing thousands of spoils, bringing his own desire for good; a sovereign, awe-inspiring in terror.

yasya te agne anye agnaya upakṣito vayā iva vipo na dyumnā ni yuve janānāṃ tava kṣatrāṇi vardhayan
Other fires attend you, Agni, as if by law; O chieftains, not like Heaven, with youths the guardians of peoples increase your realms.

They drove the mighty ones forward; lead across, for mortality, beyond; the generous ones, the hosts of all, the fierce Danavas.

yūyaṃ rājānaḥ kaṃ ciccarṣaṇīsahaḥ kṣayantaṃ mānuṣām̐ anu vayaṃ te vo varuṇa mitrāryamansyāmedṛtasya rathyaḥ
You kings, with whomsoever, together with chariots and spears, men exhausted, we will be for you—Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman—may we harness the chariot of truth.

Give me the fivefold spoils, the fifty of the terrified, the brides; the noble, generous ruler is mine.

uta me prayiyorvayiyoḥ suvāstvā adhi tugvani tisṝṇāṃ saptatīnāṃ śyāvaḥ praṇetā bhuvadvasurdiyānāṃ patiḥ
Grant to me the beloved of both friends, O giver, favorable with excellent fame: leader of three and seventy tribes, dark-armed, lord of riches and the spoils of the people.
