Those are the foremost goddesses, glorious among heroes, foremost in slaying — they existed. The mightiest of the mighty those Maghavan (Indra) chiefs, with heroic force, slew Vritra, the whole host.

Honor them with praises, with vows, O Indra-Varuna, who made ready the celebrated ones. With thunderbolts another strikes Vritra with the corpse-weapon; another hero rends the strongholds.

Fire and men both increase, all the gods are the protectors of men’s forte. By the greatness of Indra-Varuna the earth and heaven became; they were manifest.

Thus the good one bent his own will to ritual order; he who gave you Varuna as lord makes offerings to him. This one hated the twofold servitude; he gave servitude and set the people to wealth.

And may our guardians, the god-shepherds, grant to the strong ones, to Indra-Varuna, the wealth. For those whose chariots are swift among the host, the sky crosses the path forthwith; thus the hero passes.

Indra and Varuna, intoxicated with the sweet juice, the Vrishṇas, the bulls of Soma, perform vigorous worship. This rite, purified around me, O priest, they have placed; may you make it effective for me with oblations.
