Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.1

vapurnu taccikituṣe cidastu samānaṃ nāma dhenu patyamānam marteṣvanyaddohase pīpāya sakṛcchukraṃ duduhe pṛśnirūdhaḥ

Give the body for tending and the healer too; name the cow with equal care, the beloved one of the home. When others milk the dead, pressing, the seizing kine are milked like the calf.

ye agnayo na śośucannidhānā dviryattrirmaruto vāvṛdhanta areṇavo hiraṇyayāsa eṣāṃ sākaṃ nṛmṇaiḥ pauṃsyebhiśca bhūvan

Those whose treasures are not pure for Agni, where strength grows thrice like the Marut — with your plundered gold and iron, these with men, with offerings and waters, become.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.3

rudrasya ye mīḷhuṣaḥ santi putrā yām̐śco nu dādhṛvirbharadhyai vide hi mātā maho mahī ṣā setpṛśniḥ subhve3 garbhamādhāt

They are the brave sons of Rudra, the milch kine who indeed were given for the burden. For the mother indeed the great earth bore the fruitful womb; Pṛśni produced the bright offspring.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.4

na ya īṣante januṣo'yā nva1ntaḥ santo'vadyāni punānāḥ niryadduhre śucayo'nu joṣamanu śriyā tanvamukṣamāṇāḥ

They do not envy the peoples’ loins here; the inward ones are unfailing, possessing repeated offerings. When washed away, pure ones rejoiced; the joyful ones, strengthened by fame, loosened restraint.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.5

makṣū na yeṣu dohase cidayā ā nāma dhṛṣṇu mārutaṃ dadhānāḥ na ye staunā ayāso mahnā nū citsudānurava yāsadugrān

Not those cows in whose hands you milked, O bold ones who gave the Maruts; not those who chant hymns with effort, nor the great ones who followed alike.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.6

ta idugrāḥ śavasā dhṛṣṇuṣeṇā ubhe yujanta rodasī sumeke adha smaiṣu rodasī svaśocirāmavatsu tasthau na rokaḥ

Those fierce ones held by the breath, the bold seized them both; they yoked paths in the sweats of the rivers. Among these sweats the tearful ones themselves lamented; there was no barrier.

aneno vo maruto yāmo astvanaśvaścidyamajatyarathīḥ anavaso anabhīśū rajastūrvi rodasī pathyā yāti sādhan

O Maruts, make for us that evening when steeds and chariots are broken and the swift charioteer is unstinted. The unafraid, unblemished ones, resplendent in dust, go the appointed path.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.8

nāsya vartā na tarutā nvasti maruto yamavatha vājasātau toke vā goṣu tanaye yamapsu sa vrajaṃ dartā pārye adha dyoḥ

There is no turning, no youth for him — the Marut is not like the twin steeds of might. He became a calf in cows, a possessor of progeny in waters, a giver of riches over the sky.

pra citramarkaṃ gṛṇate turāya mārutāya svatavase bharadhvam ye sahāṃsi sahasā sahante rejate agne pṛthivī makhebhyaḥ

They proclaim a wonderful dawn for the Marut, resplendent in their assembly, Bharadvaja. Those who uphold with might endure with force; O Agni, you rule the earth from the heights.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 66 · Verse 6.66.10

tviṣīmanto adhvarasyeva didyuttṛṣucyavaso juhvo3 nāgneḥ arcatrayo dhunayo na vīrā bhrājajjanmāno maruto adhṛṣṭāḥ

They pour oblations like lightning in the paths of the swift, O Agni. The three-pronged rituals, the sacrificers struck — not heroes gleamed by birth, the Maruts unseen.

taṃ vṛdhantaṃ mārutaṃ bhrājadṛṣṭiṃ rudrasya sūnuṃ havasā vivāse divaḥ śardhāya śucayo manīṣā girayo nāpa ugrā aspṛdhran

That growing Marut, shining in sight, the son of Rudra, sped with the hymn in sacrifice. From heaven came ardor, pure minds and counsel, the peaks not violent nor hostile.
