The household Agni, bearing fuel, approaches like a cow to the people at dawn. Like the hot worshipper he rises, shining with glory; he courses onward, unwearied.

अबो॑धि॒ होता॑ य॒जथा॑य दे॒वानू॒र्ध्वो अ॒ग्निः सु॒मनाः॑ प्रा॒तर॑स्थात् । समि॑द्धस्य॒ रुश॑ददर्शि॒ पाजो॑ म॒हान्दे॒वस्तम॑सो॒ निर॑मोचि
abodhi hotā yajathāya devānūrdhvo agniḥ sumanāḥ prātarasthāt samiddhasya ruśadadarśi pājo mahāndevastamaso niramoci
The priestly Agni, raised upward for the gods, stood in the morning with noble mind. Having kindled, he revealed the shining offering; the great god freed (the world) from darkness.

यदीं॑ ग॒णस्य॑ रश॒नामजी॑गः॒ शुचि॑रङ्क्ते॒ शुचि॑भि॒र्गोभि॑र॒ग्निः । आद्दक्षि॑णा युज्यते वाज॒यन्त्यु॑त्ता॒नामू॒र्ध्वो अ॑धयज्जु॒हूभिः॑
yadīṃ gaṇasya raśanāmajīgaḥ śuciraṅkte śucibhirgobhiragniḥ āddakṣiṇā yujyate vājayantyuttānāmūrdhvo adhayajjuhūbhiḥ
If the brilliant host is sprinkled with sacred water and washed by pure ones with pure cows, Agni is honored. The rightward (offerings) are joined to strength; he who is exalted above receives libations from those who sacrifice below.

अ॒ग्निमच्छा॑ देवय॒तां मनां॑सि॒ चक्षूं॑षीव॒ सूर्ये॒ सं च॑रन्ति । यदीं॒ सुवा॑ते उ॒षसा॒ विरू॑पे श्वे॒तो वा॒जी जा॑यते॒ अग्रे॒ अह्ना॑म्
agnimacchā devayatāṃ manāṃsi cakṣūṃṣīva sūrye saṃ caranti yadīṃ suvāte uṣasā virūpe śveto vājī jāyate agre ahnām
May they make Agni godlike in mind and eyes, moving with the Sun. If dawn shines fair or ruddy, white-robed he is victorious at the fore of the day.

जनि॑ष्ट॒ हि जेन्यो॒ अग्रे॒ अह्नां॑ हि॒तो हि॒तेष्व॑रु॒षो वने॑षु । दमे॑दमे स॒प्त रत्ना॒ दधा॑नो॒ऽग्निर्होता॒ नि ष॑सादा॒ यजी॑यान्
janiṣṭa hi jenyo agre ahnāṃ hito hiteṣvaruṣo vaneṣu damedame sapta ratnā dadhāno'gnirhotā ni ṣasādā yajīyān
The youngest indeed, born before the day, beneficial to the days in the woods. He placed seven jewels, Agni the priest set the flame, he established the sacrificers.

अ॒ग्निर्होता॒ न्य॑सीद॒द्यजी॑यानु॒पस्थे॑ मा॒तुः सु॑र॒भा उ॑ लो॒के । युवा॑ क॒विः पु॑रुनि॒ष्ठ ऋ॒तावा॑ ध॒र्ता कृ॑ष्टी॒नामु॒त मध्य॑ इ॒द्धः
agnirhotā nyasīdadyajīyānupasthe mātuḥ surabhā u loke yuvā kaviḥ puruniṣṭha ṛtāvā dhartā kṛṣṭīnāmuta madhya iddhaḥ
Agni the priest sat down; the sacrificers approached. May the fragrant mother not depart from the world. Young poet, firm among men, upholder of rites, ruler of fields, reach thou the middle of gains.

प्र णु त्यं विप्र॑मध्व॒रेषु॑ सा॒धुम॒ग्निं होता॑रमीळते॒ नमो॑भिः । आ यस्त॒तान॒ रोद॑सी ऋ॒तेन॒ नित्यं॑ मृजन्ति वा॒जिनं॑ घृ॒तेन॑
pra ṇu tyaṃ vipramadhvareṣu sādhumagniṃ hotāramīḷate namobhiḥ ā yastatāna rodasī ṛtena nityaṃ mṛjanti vājinaṃ ghṛtena
Invoke him among the learned assemblies; the worthy priest is praised with salutations. Whoever at dawn laments, they daily anoint the generous with clarified butter, honoring the charioteer.

मा॒र्जा॒ल्यो॑ मृज्यते॒ स्वे दमू॑नाः कविप्रश॒स्तो अति॑थिः शि॒वो नः॑ । स॒हस्र॑शृङ्गो वृष॒भस्तदो॑जा॒ विश्वा॑ँ अग्ने॒ सह॑सा॒ प्रास्य॒न्यान्
mārjālyo mṛjyate sve damūnāḥ kavipraśasto atithiḥ śivo naḥ sahasraśaṛṅgo vṛṣabhastadojā viśvām̐ agne sahasā prāsyanyān
May not the filth be smeared; our own streams are cleansed. The praised poet, honored guest, is auspicious to us. The bull with thousand horns, thou, O Agni, make all beings swift by compulsion.

प्र स॒द्यो अ॑ग्ने॒ अत्ये॑ष्य॒न्याना॒विर्यस्मै॒ चारु॑तमो ब॒भूथ॑ । ई॒ळेन्यो॑ वपु॒ष्यो॑ वि॒भावा॑ प्रि॒यो वि॒शामति॑थि॒र्मानु॑षीणाम्
pra sadyo agne atyeṣyanyānāviryasmai cārutamo babhūtha īḷenyo vapuṣyo vibhāvā priyo viśāmatithirmānuṣīṇām
Instantly, O Agni, thou hast shone forth, surpassing others in strength; thou wert the fairest. With the hymn he strode forth in forms, delightful, he wins the favor of mortal hosts.

तुभ्यं॑ भरन्ति क्षि॒तयो॑ यविष्ठ ब॒लिम॑ग्ने॒ अन्ति॑त॒ ओत दू॒रात् । आ भन्दि॑ष्ठस्य सुम॒तिं चि॑किद्धि बृ॒हत्ते॑ अग्ने॒ महि॒ शर्म॑ भ॒द्रम्
tubhyaṃ bharanti kṣitayo yaviṣṭha balimagne antita ota dūrāt ā bhandiṣṭhasya sumatiṃ cikiddhi bṛhatte agne mahi śarma bhadram
The worlds bear thee, Agni, as strength and offering from afar. May the goodwill of the steadfast one cure and grant the great protection, O Agni, that is auspicious.

आद्य रथं॑ भानुमो भानु॒मन्त॒मग्ने॒ तिष्ठ॑ यज॒तेभिः॒ सम॑न्तम् । वि॒द्वान्प॑थी॒नामु॒र्व१॒॑न्तरि॑क्ष॒मेह दे॒वान्ह॑वि॒रद्या॑य वक्षि
ādya rathaṃ bhānumo bhānumantamagne tiṣṭha yajatebhiḥ samantam vidvānpathīnāmurva1ntarikṣameha devānhaviradyāya vakṣi
First chariot, Sun-beam of beams, Agni standing among worshippers is praised on all sides. The wise know the paths; within the atmosphere the gods and the ritualists command the oblation and declare it.

अवो॑चाम क॒वये॒ मेध्या॑य॒ वचो॑ व॒न्दारु॑ वृष॒भाय॒ वृष्णे॑ । गवि॑ष्ठिरो॒ नम॑सा॒ स्तोम॑म॒ग्नौ दि॒वी॑व रु॒क्ममु॑रु॒व्यञ्च॑मश्रेत्
avocāma kavaye medhyāya vaco vandāru vṛṣabhāya vṛṣṇe gaviṣṭhiro namasā stomamagnau divīva rukmamuruvyañcamaśret
I have spoken to the seerly poets with wise speech: praise to the Bull, to Vṛṣṇa. Hail to the powerful singer, to Agni, golden-hued, to the one who adorns the radiant world with sacred song.
