बृह॑स्पते॒ प्रति॑ मे दे॒वता॑मिहि मि॒त्रो वा॒ यद्वरु॑णो॒ वासि॑ पू॒षा । आ॒दि॒त्यैर्वा॒ यद्वसु॑भिर्म॒रुत्वा॒न्स प॒र्जन्यं॒ शंत॑नवे वृषाय
bṛhaspate prati me devatāmihi mitro vā yadvaruṇo vāsi pūṣā ādityairvā yadvasubhirmarutvānsa parjanyaṃ śaṃtanave vṛṣāya
Brihaspati, to whom among the gods shall I speak — Mitra or Varuna, Vasi or Pusha, the Adityas or the Vasus, the Maruts or the progeny of Parjanya, the bringer of gentle rain for the bull?

आ दे॒वो दू॒तो अ॑जि॒रश्चि॑कि॒त्वान्त्वद्दे॑वापे अ॒भि माम॑गच्छत् । प्र॒ती॒ची॒नः प्रति॒ मामा व॑वृत्स्व॒ दधा॑मि ते द्यु॒मतीं॒ वाच॑मा॒सन्
ā devo dūto ajiraścikitvāntvaddevāpe abhi māmagacchat pratīcīnaḥ prati māmā vavṛtsva dadhāmi te dyumatīṃ vācamāsan
A god, messenger and swift, approaching the gods, came to me. He opened eastward toward me; I set down the sky‑mind (dyumatīṃ) in words.

अ॒स्मे धे॑हि द्यु॒मतीं॒ वाच॑मा॒सन्बृह॑स्पते अनमी॒वामि॑षि॒राम् । यया॑ वृ॒ष्टिं शंत॑नवे॒ वना॑व दि॒वो द्र॒प्सो मधु॑मा॒ँ आ वि॑वेश
asme dhehi dyumatīṃ vācamāsanbṛhaspate anamīvāmiṣirām yayā vṛṣṭiṃ śaṃtanave vanāva divo drapso madhumām̐ ā viveśa
Give me, O Brihaspati, that sky‑mind they spoke to me. By which the gentle rains came from heaven to the woods, bringing sweetness.

आ नो॑ द्र॒प्सा मधु॑मन्तो विश॒न्त्विन्द्र॑ दे॒ह्यधि॑रथं स॒हस्र॑म् । नि षी॑द हो॒त्रमृ॑तु॒था य॑जस्व दे॒वान्दे॑वापे ह॒विषा॑ सपर्य
ā no drapsā madhumanto viśantvindra dehyadhirathaṃ sahasram ni ṣīda hotramṛtuthā yajasva devāndevāpe haviṣā saparya
May the sweet rains, flowing to us, enter with Indra a thousandfold; sit down, O priest, and perform the rite; offer the oblation together with the gods.

आ॒र्ष्टि॒षे॒णो हो॒त्रमृषि॑र्नि॒षीद॑न्दे॒वापि॑र्देवसुम॒तिं चि॑कि॒त्वान् । स उत्त॑रस्मा॒दध॑रं समु॒द्रम॒पो दि॒व्या अ॑सृजद्व॒र्ष्या॑ अ॒भि
ārṣṭiṣeṇo hotramṛṣirniṣīdandevāpirdevasumatiṃ cikitvān sa uttarasmādadharaṃ samudramapo divyā asṛjadvarṣyā abhi
The seer, with the arṣṭi‑rod, sat as priest and invoked the divine counsel. From above he brought forth the ocean of waters, divine, poured out, sent by the gods, moisture for the fields.

अ॒स्मिन्स॑मु॒द्रे अध्युत्त॑रस्मि॒न्नापो॑ दे॒वेभि॒र्निवृ॑ता अतिष्ठन् । ता अ॑द्रवन्नार्ष्टिषे॒णेन॑ सृ॒ष्टा दे॒वापि॑ना॒ प्रेषि॑ता मृ॒क्षिणी॑षु
asminsamudre adhyuttarasminnāpo devebhirnivṛtā atiṣṭhan tā adravannārṣṭiṣeṇena sṛṣṭā devāpinā preṣitā mṛkṣiṇīṣu
In this sea, above and below, waters stood encompassed by the gods. They flowed forth; the arṣṭi‑born ones were created; the gods sent them into the furrows.

यद्दे॒वापिः॒ शंत॑नवे पु॒रोहि॑तो हो॒त्राय॑ वृ॒तः कृ॒पय॒न्नदी॑धेत् । दे॒व॒श्रुतं॑ वृष्टि॒वनिं॒ ररा॑णो॒ बृह॒स्पति॒र्वाच॑मस्मा अयच्छत्
yaddevāpiḥ śaṃtanave purohito hotrāya vṛtaḥ kṛpayannadīdhet devaśrutaṃ vṛṣṭivaniṃ rarāṇo bṛhaspatirvācamasmā ayacchat
When even the priestly sacrificer of Shantanava showed compassion and gave the rain heard by the gods, Brihaspati spoke unto us.

यं त्वा॑ दे॒वापिः॑ शुशुचा॒नो अ॑ग्न आर्ष्टिषे॒णो म॑नु॒ष्यः॑ समी॒धे । विश्वे॑भिर्दे॒वैर॑नुम॒द्यमा॑नः॒ प्र प॒र्जन्य॑मीरया वृष्टि॒मन्त॑म्
yaṃ tvā devāpiḥ śuśucāno agna ārṣṭiṣeṇo manuṣyaḥ samīdhe viśvebhirdevairanumadyamānaḥ pra parjanyamīrayā vṛṣṭimantam
Whom the priest Shushuchana or Arṣṭiśeṇa, a mortal, cleansed, all gods together, proclaiming, made the rain abundant over Parjanya's realm.

त्वां पूर्व॒ ऋष॑यो गी॒र्भिरा॑य॒न्त्वाम॑ध्व॒रेषु॑ पुरुहूत॒ विश्वे॑ । स॒हस्रा॒ण्यधि॑रथान्य॒स्मे आ नो॑ य॒ज्ञं रो॑हिद॒श्वोप॑ याहि
tvāṃ pūrva ṛṣayo gīrbhirāyantvāmadhvareṣu puruhūta viśve sahasrāṇyadhirathānyasme ā no yajñaṃ rohidaśvopa yāhi
Former seers with hymns called you in the paths, in the assembly of priests, O leader of sacrifices, all together. Bring hither the sacrifice of a thousand chariots.

ए॒तान्य॑ग्ने नव॒तिर्नव॒ त्वे आहु॑ता॒न्यधि॑रथा स॒हस्रा॑ । तेभि॑र्वर्धस्व त॒न्वः॑ शूर पू॒र्वीर्दि॒वो नो॑ वृ॒ष्टिमि॑षि॒तो रि॑रीहि
etānyagne navatirnava tve āhutānyadhirathā sahasrā tebhirvardhasva tanvaḥ śūra pūrvīrdivo no vṛṣṭimiṣito rirīhi
These, O Agni, are ninety‑nine and nine; with thousands of cars (offered) you are invoked. May they increase you, brave ones; send down the earlier rain from heaven to us.

ए॒तान्य॑ग्ने नव॒तिं स॒हस्रा॒ सं प्र य॑च्छ॒ वृष्ण॒ इन्द्रा॑य भा॒गम् । वि॒द्वान्प॒थ ऋ॑तु॒शो दे॑व॒याना॒नप्यौ॑ला॒नं दि॒वि दे॒वेषु॑ धेहि
etānyagne navatiṃ sahasrā saṃ pra yaccha vṛṣṇa indrāya bhāgam vidvānpatha ṛtuśo devayānānapyaulānaṃ divi deveṣu dhehi
These, O Agni, grant ninety‑nine thousandfold; give portion to Indra. Learn the season and the paths of the gods; place in the divine wealth for the gods.

अग्ने॒ बाध॑स्व॒ वि मृधो॒ वि दु॒र्गहापामी॑वा॒मप॒ रक्षां॑सि सेध । अ॒स्मात्स॑मु॒द्राद्बृ॑ह॒तो दि॒वो नो॒ऽपां भू॒मान॒मुप॑ नः सृजे॒ह
agne bādhasva vi mṛdho vi durgahāpāmīvāmapa rakṣāṃsi sedha asmātsamudrādbṛhato divo no'pāṃ bhūmānamupa naḥ sṛjeha
Agni, ward off harm, soften the hard, open the inaccessible; from this great sea of heaven create and bring us the measure of waters.
