यद्दे॒वापिः॒ शंत॑नवे पु॒रोहि॑तो हो॒त्राय॑ वृ॒तः कृ॒पय॒न्नदी॑धेत् । दे॒व॒श्रुतं॑ वृष्टि॒वनिं॒ ररा॑णो॒ बृह॒स्पति॒र्वाच॑मस्मा अयच्छत्
yaddevāpiḥ śaṃtanave purohito hotrāya vṛtaḥ kṛpayannadīdhet devaśrutaṃ vṛṣṭivaniṃ rarāṇo bṛhaspatirvācamasmā ayacchat
When even the priestly sacrificer of Shantanava showed compassion and gave the rain heard by the gods, Brihaspati spoke unto us.
When Devāpi, the Purohita for Śantanu, engaged in his functions of Hotā, compassionating (him),slicited Bṛhaspati, to whom the gods listen, who begs for rain, (Bṛhaspati) being plural ased gave him a voice.
When as chief priest for Santanu, Devapi, chosen for Hotar's duty, prayed beseeching, Graciously pleased Brhaspati vouchsafed him a voice that reached the Gods and won the waters.
