अ॒ग्निं होता॑रं मन्ये॒ दास्व॑न्तं॒ वसुं॑ सू॒नुं सह॑सो जा॒तवे॑दसं॒ विप्रं॒ न जा॒तवे॑दसम् । य ऊ॒र्ध्वया॑ स्वध्व॒रो दे॒वो दे॒वाच्या॑ कृ॒पा । घृ॒तस्य॒ विभ्रा॑ष्टि॒मनु॑ वष्टि शो॒चिषा॒जुह्वा॑नस्य स॒र्पिषः॑
agniṃ hotāraṃ manye dāsvantaṃ vasuṃ sūnuṃ sahaso jātavedasaṃ vipraṃ na jātavedasam ya ūrdhvayā svadhvaro devo devācyā kṛpā ghṛtasya vibhrāṣṭimanu vaṣṭi śociṣājuhvānasya sarpiṣaḥ
I consider Agni the sacrificer, the servant, the treasured wealth — born with vigor, not merely a Brahmin of birth. He who is the upward warder, god of gods, shows mercy to the godly. The clarified butter is scattered; the worshipper’s libation is the sacred offering.

यजि॑ष्ठं त्वा॒ यज॑माना हुवेम॒ ज्येष्ठ॒मङ्गि॑रसां विप्र॒ मन्म॑भि॒र्विप्रे॑भिः शुक्र॒ मन्म॑भिः । परि॑ज्मानमिव॒ द्यां होता॑रं चर्षणी॒नाम् । शो॒चिष्के॑शं॒ वृष॑णं॒ यमि॒मा विशः॒ प्राव॑न्तु जू॒तये॒ विशः॑
yajiṣṭhaṃ tvā yajamānā huvema jyeṣṭhamaṅgirasāṃ vipra manmabhirviprebhiḥ śukra manmabhiḥ parijmānamiva dyāṃ hotāraṃ carṣaṇīnām śociṣkeśaṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ yamimā viśaḥ prāvantu jūtaye viśaḥ
We will invoke you, best of worshipped, as we perform the rite: may the elder Angiras, priests and Brahmins, purify our minds. Like the sky encircling offspring the sacrificer, may the libations pour. Let the hair of lament be bound; may these poisons be driven away for the offering.

स हि पु॒रू चि॒दोज॑सा वि॒रुक्म॑ता॒ दीद्या॑नो॒ भव॑ति द्रुहंत॒रः प॑र॒शुर्न द्रु॑हंत॒रः । वी॒ळु चि॒द्यस्य॒ समृ॑तौ॒ श्रुव॒द्वने॑व॒ यत्स्थि॒रम् । निः॒षह॑माणो यमते॒ नाय॑ते धन्वा॒सहा॒ नाय॑ते
sa hi purū cidojasā virukmatā dīdyāno bhavati druhaṃtaraḥ paraśurna druhaṃtaraḥ vīḷu cidyasya samṛtau śruvadvaneva yatsthiram niḥṣahamāṇo yamate nāyate dhanvāsahā nāyate
He indeed, man endowed with renown and might, becomes radiant, defeats the hostile. Like a firm tree in the sacred grove is that which stands fast. The brave not harvested perish not; the archer is not destroyed.

दृ॒ळ्हा चि॑दस्मा॒ अनु॑ दु॒र्यथा॑ वि॒दे तेजि॑ष्ठाभिर॒रणि॑भिर्दा॒ष्ट्यव॑से॒ऽग्नये॑ दा॒ष्ट्यव॑से । प्र यः पु॒रूणि॒ गाह॑ते॒ तक्ष॒द्वने॑व शो॒चिषा॑ । स्थि॒रा चि॒दन्ना॒ नि रि॑णा॒त्योज॑सा॒ नि स्थि॒राणि॑ चि॒दोज॑सा
dṛḷhā cidasmā anu duryathā vide tejiṣṭhābhiraraṇibhirdāṣṭyavase'gnaye dāṣṭyavase pra yaḥ purūṇi gāhate takṣadvaneva śociṣā sthirā cidannā ni riṇātyojasā ni sthirāṇi cidojasā
Steadfast with strong will, follow not the bad path; the most radiant adorn the sacrificial seat, the sacrificer’s place. Whoever seizes the multitude gains the noble grove; the worshipper’s steady food and gathered vigor come from steadfast energy.

तम॑स्य पृ॒क्षमुप॑रासु धीमहि॒ नक्तं॒ यः सु॒दर्श॑तरो॒ दिवा॑तरा॒दप्रा॑युषे॒ दिवा॑तरात् । आद॒स्यायु॒र्ग्रभ॑णवद्वी॒ळु शर्म॒ न सू॒नवे॑ । भ॒क्तमभ॑क्त॒मवो॒ व्यन्तो॑ अ॒जरा॑ अ॒ग्नयो॒ व्यन्तो॑ अ॒जराः॑
tamasya pṛkṣamuparāsu dhīmahi naktaṃ yaḥ sudarśataro divātarādaprāyuṣe divātarāt ādasyāyurgrabhaṇavadvīḷu śarma na sūnave bhaktamabhaktamavo vyanto ajarā agnayo vyanto ajarāḥ
We meditate on his face above the waters — the night which is more manifest than the day, life‑giver beyond day and night. He seized life like a womb; the brave do not lack offspring. The devout and the undevout both pass away; agni’s children pass not away.

स हि शर्धो॒ न मारु॑तं तुवि॒ष्वणि॒रप्न॑स्वतीषू॒र्वरा॑स्वि॒ष्टनि॒रार्त॑नास्वि॒ष्टनिः॑ । आद॑द्ध॒व्यान्या॑द॒दिर्य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुर॒र्हणा॑ । अध॑ स्मास्य॒ हर्ष॑तो॒ हृषी॑वतो॒ विश्वे॑ जुषन्त॒ पन्थां॒ नरः॑ शु॒भे न पन्था॑म्
sa hi śardho na mārutaṃ tuviṣvaṇirapnasvatīṣūrvarāsviṣṭanirārtanāsviṣṭaniḥ ādaddhavyānyādadiryajñasya keturarhaṇā adha smāsya harṣato hṛṣīvato viśve juṣanta panthāṃ naraḥ śubhe na panthām
He indeed praises the Maruts, the showerers of wealth; in torrents they bring help to the worship. Thus the vow of the sacrifice was first established — the standard that summons. From his joyous exaltation all paths of men are satisfied; no ill path surpasses the good path.

द्वि॒ता यदीं॑ की॒स्तासो॑ अ॒भिद्य॑वो नम॒स्यन्त॑ उप॒वोच॑न्त॒ भृग॑वो म॒थ्नन्तो॑ दा॒शा भृग॑वः । अ॒ग्निरी॑शे॒ वसू॑नां॒ शुचि॒र्यो ध॒र्णिरे॑षाम् । प्रि॒याँ अ॑पि॒धीँर्व॑निषीष्ट॒ मेधि॑र॒ आ व॑निषीष्ट॒ मेधि॑रः
dvitā yadīṃ kīstāso abhidyavo namasyanta upavocanta bhṛgavo mathnanto dāśā bhṛgavaḥ agnirīśe vasūnāṃ śuciryo dharṇireṣām priyām̐ apidhīm̐rvaniṣīṣṭa medhira ā vaniṣīṣṭa medhiraḥ
If these two who merit homage are invoked, the Bhrigus spoke, striving, tenfold the Bhrigus. Agni rules the glorious possessions; he is the bearing post of these. May the poisons depart; let these harmful things go forth for removal.

विश्वा॑सां त्वा वि॒शां पतिं॑ हवामहे॒ सर्वा॑सां समा॒नं दम्प॑तिं भु॒जे स॒त्यगि॑र्वाहसं भु॒जे । अति॑थिं॒ मानु॑षाणां पि॒तुर्न यस्या॑स॒या । अ॒मी च॒ विश्वे॑ अ॒मृता॑स॒ आ वयो॑ ह॒व्या दे॒वेष्वा वयः॑
viśvāsāṃ tvā viśāṃ patiṃ havāmahe sarvāsāṃ samānaṃ dampatiṃ bhuje satyagirvāhasaṃ bhuje atithiṃ mānuṣāṇāṃ piturna yasyāsayā amī ca viśve amṛtāsa ā vayo havyā deveṣvā vayaḥ
We call you lord of trusts, lord of peoples; we offer to you the common pair, to be upheld with true praise. The host is guest of men, father of men who possess this. We invoke all immortals and the offerings, the age‑worthy invoked to the gods.

त्वम॑ग्ने॒ सह॑सा॒ सह॑न्तमः शु॒ष्मिन्त॑मो जायसे दे॒वता॑तये र॒यिर्न दे॒वता॑तये । शु॒ष्मिन्त॑मो॒ हि ते॒ मदो॑ द्यु॒म्निन्त॑म उ॒त क्रतुः॑ । अध॑ स्मा ते॒ परि॑ चरन्त्यजर श्रुष्टी॒वानो॒ नाज॑र
tvamagne sahasā sahantamaḥ śuṣmintamo jāyase devatātaye rayirna devatātaye śuṣmintamo hi te mado dyumnintama uta kratuḥ adha smā te pari carantyajara śruṣṭīvāno nājara
O Agni, you are born with the subtle breath of the divinities; you are not of the divinities alone. Your subtlety is my pride, bright like the heavens and sacrifice. Around you they move, ancient, never old.

प्र वो॑ म॒हे सह॑सा॒ सह॑स्वत उष॒र्बुधे॑ पशु॒षे नाग्नये॒ स्तोमो॑ बभूत्व॒ग्नये॑ । प्रति॒ यदीं॑ ह॒विष्मा॒न्विश्वा॑सु॒ क्षासु॒ जोगु॑वे । अग्रे॑ रे॒भो न ज॑रत ऋषू॒णां जूर्णि॒र्होत॑ ऋषू॒णाम्
pra vo mahe sahasā sahasvata uṣarbudhe paśuṣe nāgnaye stomo babhūtvagnaye prati yadīṃ haviṣmānviśvāsu kṣāsu joguve agre rebho na jarata ṛṣūṇāṃ jūrṇirhota ṛṣūṇām
Let our mighty hymn be for Agni, for Sustainer‑power, to the rising East; let the chant be for Agni. We poured all libations into cleansing streams. The foremost pledge is not decayed among the seers; the seers’ offerings are fulfilled.

स नो॒ नेदि॑ष्ठं॒ ददृ॑शान॒ आ भ॒राग्ने॑ दे॒वेभिः॒ सच॑नाः सुचे॒तुना॑ म॒हो रा॒यः सु॑चे॒तुना॑ । महि॑ शविष्ठ नस्कृधि सं॒चक्षे॑ भु॒जे अ॒स्यै । महि॑ स्तो॒तृभ्यो॑ मघवन्सु॒वीर्यं॒ मथी॑रु॒ग्रो न शव॑सा
sa no nediṣṭhaṃ dadṛśāna ā bharāgne devebhiḥ sacanāḥ sucetunā maho rāyaḥ sucetunā mahi śaviṣṭha naskṛdhi saṃcakṣe bhuje asyai mahi stotṛbhyo maghavansuvīryaṃ mathīrugro na śavasā
May he not refuse what we have desired; may Agni, with the gods, grant abundant royal blessing with wise counsel. From the great strength, with steadfast mind, may he bestow heroic vigour to our praise‑givers, neither lacking in force nor in life.
