स हि पु॒रू चि॒दोज॑सा वि॒रुक्म॑ता॒ दीद्या॑नो॒ भव॑ति द्रुहंत॒रः प॑र॒शुर्न द्रु॑हंत॒रः । वी॒ळु चि॒द्यस्य॒ समृ॑तौ॒ श्रुव॒द्वने॑व॒ यत्स्थि॒रम् । निः॒षह॑माणो यमते॒ नाय॑ते धन्वा॒सहा॒ नाय॑ते
sa hi purū cidojasā virukmatā dīdyāno bhavati druhaṃtaraḥ paraśurna druhaṃtaraḥ vīḷu cidyasya samṛtau śruvadvaneva yatsthiram niḥṣahamāṇo yamate nāyate dhanvāsahā nāyate
He indeed, man endowed with renown and might, becomes radiant, defeats the hostile. Like a firm tree in the sacred grove is that which stands fast. The brave not harvested perish not; the archer is not destroyed.
Verily, that Agni, far shining with brilliant vigour, is the destroyer of foes, like a hatchet that cuts down trees; whatever is most solid and stable dissolves like water at his contact; unsparing, he sports (amidst enemies), nor desists (from their destruction), like an archer who retreats not (frombattle).
He with his shining glory blazing far and wide, he verily it is who slayeth demon foes, slayeth the demons like an axe: At whose close touch things solid shake, and what is stable yields like trees. Subduing all, he keeps his ground and flinches not, from the skilled archer flinches not.
