We will invoke you, best of worshipped, as we perform the rite: may the elder Angiras, priests and Brahmins, purify our minds. Like the sky encircling offspring the sacrificer, may the libations pour. Let the hair of lament be bound; may these poisons be driven away for the offering.

We, the instrumental tutors of the ceremony, invoke you, Agni, who are most deserving of worship, and are the eldest of the Aṅgirasas, with (acceptable) prayers; and with prayers (recited) by the priests, (we adore) you, who, like the traverser of the sky, (the sun), are the invoker (of the gods on behalf) of men, and whom, the bright-haired showeree (of blessings), many people approaching propitiate for the attainment of felicity.

We, sacrificing, call on thee best worshipper, the eldest of Angirases, Singer, with hymns, thee, brilliant One! with singers' hymns; Thee, wandering round as 't were the sky, who art the invoking Priest of men, Whom, Bull with hair of flame the people must observe, the people that he speed them on.
