I consider Agni the sacrificer, the servant, the treasured wealth — born with vigor, not merely a Brahmin of birth. He who is the upward warder, god of gods, shows mercy to the godly. The clarified butter is scattered; the worshipper’s libation is the sacred offering.

I venerate Agni, the invoker (of the gods), the munificent, the giver of dwellings, the son of strength; he who knows all that exists, like a sage who is endowed with knowledge; who, the divine regenerator of sacrifices, through his lofty and reverntial devotion, covets for the gods the blaze of the liquefied butter which is offered in oblation with his flames.

AGNI I hold as herald, the munificent, the gracious, Son of Strength, who knoweth all that live, as holy Singer, knowing all, Lord of fair rites, a God with form erected turning to the Gods, He, when the flame hath sprung forth from the holy oil, the offered fatness, longeth for it with his glow.
