kumāraṃ mātā yuvatiḥ samubdhaṃ guhā bibharti na dadāti pitre anīkamasya na minajjanāsaḥ puraḥ paśyanti nihitamaratau
A youthful maiden bears in her womb a child; she hides it in a cave and gives it not to the father. Many of his offspring do not see him; they fell in the place of immortality.

kametaṃ tvaṃ yuvate kumāraṃ peṣī bibharṣi mahiṣī jajāna pūrvīrhi garbhaḥ śarado vavardhāpaśyaṃ jātaṃ yadasūta mātā
Why, maiden, do you carry the youthful child? Did you bear forth a mighty bull who evolved? Long ago was the womb increased in autumn; behold the birth that the mother brought forth.

hiraṇyadantaṃ śucivarṇamārātkṣetrādapaśyamāyudhā mimānam dadāno asmā amṛtaṃ vipṛkvatkiṃ māmanindrāḥ kṛṇavannanukthāḥ
I saw a splendid, white-tusked one, a field-born spear — a wondrous implement. Grant us immortality; mighty Indra, do this, make firm the hymns and offer the praised food.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 5, Sukta 2 · Verse 5.2.4
kṣetrādapaśyaṃ sanutaścarantaṃ sumadyūthaṃ na puru śobhamānam na tā agṛbhrannajaniṣṭa hi ṣaḥ paliknīridyuvatayo bhavanti
I saw a field-born one moving with offspring, shining in fair array, not manifold in many ways. Not the first-born, nor the newly begotten youths, are they who become maidens.

Who among you has the gentle herd, the cattle of men, whose cowherd is shining? Those who seized it, may they produce offspring; may they create progeny among the flocks.

vasāṃ rājānaṃ vasatiṃ janānāmarātayo ni dadhurmartyeṣu brahmāṇyatrerava taṃ sṛjantu ninditāro nindyāso bhavantu
May the lords grant dwellings to the people and destinies for mortals. Let the creative ones fashion Brahman here; let not the slanderers be born, let them be reproached.

śunaścicchepaṃ niditaṃ sahasrādyūpādamuñco aśamiṣṭa hi ṣaḥ evāsmadagne vi mumugdhi pāśānhotaścikitva iha tū niṣadya
A hundredfold wrath and fierce onslaught released, he loosed the stream of strife; the sinful are hostile indeed. From us, Agni, emancipation from bonds—bind not the sacrificer here in his seat.

They spoke, minds restrained from arrogance, concerning my power. Indra, the wise followed thee; thus Agni, I was commanded to come and attend thee.

vi jyotiṣā bṛhatā bhātyagnirāvirviśvāni kṛṇute mahitvā prādevīrmāyāḥ sahate durevāḥ śiśīte śaṛṅge rakṣase vinikṣe
O Agni, greatly radiant with light, you produce all things through your mighty brilliance. O primal goddess, together with your wondrous power you protect, you guard the peaks, and you preserve (life).

May the fires of your own, O Agni, shine in the heavens; may the weapon-bearing one protect and slay the foe. The shining ones do not yield to obstacles; the radiant ones do not turn back.

etaṃ te stomaṃ tuvijāta vipro rathaṃ na dhīraḥ svapā atakṣam yadīdagne prati tvaṃ deva haryāḥ svarvatīrapa enā jayema
This hymn of yours the wise, born of the priestly class, do not drive away from the chariot; if toward Agni you go, may you, O divine, bring us victory on the heavenly shore.

Whether you are necked like a bull or a vigorous cow, O enemy-destroyer, the Veda is born together. Thus they named this immortal Agni: “O sacrificial priest, to the thoughtful man be auspice,” — thus they invoked him.
