अ॒यमि॒ह प्र॑थ॒मो धा॑यि धा॒तृभि॒र्होता॒ यजि॑ष्ठो अध्व॒रेष्वीड्यः॑ । यमप्न॑वानो॒ भृग॑वो विरुरु॒चुर्वने॑षु चि॒त्रं वि॒भ्वं॑ वि॒शेवि॑शे
ayamiha prathamo dhāyi dhātṛbhirhotā yajiṣṭho adhvareṣvīḍyaḥ yamapnavāno bhṛgavo virurucurvaneṣu citraṃ vibhvaṃ viśeviśe
Here I am first, established as priest, one who offers with the makers of the sacrifice, eminent among the paths. Him who obtained the prize, Bhrigu, who shone in the forests, I beheld splendid and manifold.

agne kadā ta ānuṣagbhuvaddevasya cetanam adhā hi tvā jagṛbhrire martāso vikṣvīḍyam
O Agni, when did you—attendant upon men—become aware of the god's mind? Indeed, men roused you; they looked upon you among mortals.

ऋ॒तावा॑नं॒ विचे॑तसं॒ पश्य॑न्तो॒ द्यामि॑व॒ स्तृभिः॑ । विश्वे॑षामध्व॒राणां॑ हस्क॒र्तारं॒ दमे॑दमे
ṛtāvānaṃ vicetasaṃ paśyanto dyāmiva stṛbhiḥ viśveṣāmadhvarāṇāṃ haskartāraṃ damedame
They, perceiving the rule of rites, behold the sky as with strands; for all the paths beneath, the maker of laughter, breaker of pride, subdued them.

āśuṃ dūtaṃ vivasvato viśvā yaścarṣaṇīrabhi ā jabhruḥ ketumāyavo bhṛgavāṇaṃ viśeviśe
Swift messenger of Vivasvan, all the fame that was won by the ploughing men, the banner-bearing children brought forth—Bhrigus proclaimed them widely through the hosts.

तमीं॒ होता॑रमानु॒षक्चि॑कि॒त्वांसं॒ नि षे॑दिरे । र॒ण्वं पा॑व॒कशो॑चिषं॒ यजि॑ष्ठं स॒प्त धाम॑भिः
tamīṃ hotāramānuṣakcikitvāṃsaṃ ni ṣedire raṇvaṃ pāvakaśociṣaṃ yajiṣṭhaṃ sapta dhāmabhiḥ
Those sacrificers, human, brought the priestly offerings and established the chambers. The burning one made the radiant sacrificial-fearful praise, the eminent praised in seven abodes.

तं शश्व॑तीषु मा॒तृषु॒ वन॒ आ वी॒तमश्रि॑तम् । चि॒त्रं सन्तं॒ गुहा॑ हि॒तं सु॒वेदं॑ कूचिद॒र्थिन॑म्
taṃ śaśvatīṣu mātṛṣu vana ā vītamaśritam citraṃ santaṃ guhā hitaṃ suvedaṃ kūcidarthinam
May that forest remain for the eternal mothers, free of harm, bearing refuge. The manifold abode, the cave, is beneficial and sweet for one seeking goals.

स॒सस्य॒ यद्वियु॑ता॒ सस्मि॒न्नूध॑न्नृ॒तस्य॒ धाम॑न्र॒णय॑न्त दे॒वाः । म॒हाँ अ॒ग्निर्नम॑सा रा॒तह॑व्यो॒ वेर॑ध्व॒राय॒ सद॒मिदृ॒तावा॑
sasasya yadviyutā sasminnūdhannṛtasya dhāmanraṇayanta devāḥ mahām̐ agnirnamasā rātahavyo veradhvarāya sadamidṛtāvā
When the dispersed place of untruth was crushed, the gods urged on; great Agni, the famed, the nightly oblation, showered strength for the upholder of the law.

वेर॑ध्व॒रस्य॑ दू॒त्या॑नि वि॒द्वानु॒भे अ॒न्ता रोद॑सी संचिकि॒त्वान् । दू॒त ई॑यसे प्र॒दिव॑ उरा॒णो वि॒दुष्ट॑रो दि॒व आ॒रोध॑नानि
veradhvarasya dūtyāni vidvānubhe antā rodasī saṃcikitvān dūta īyase pradiva urāṇo viduṣṭaro diva ārodhanāni
The messengers of restraint, knowing and perceiving, encircle the ends with tearful care. The messenger comes; the radiant chest of the found ones ascends, leading the openings to the sky.

कृ॒ष्णं त॒ एम॒ रुश॑तः पु॒रो भाश्च॑रि॒ष्ण्व१॒॑र्चिर्वपु॑षा॒मिदेक॑म् । यदप्र॑वीता॒ दध॑ते ह॒ गर्भं॑ स॒द्यश्चि॑ज्जा॒तो भव॒सीदु॑ दू॒तः
kṛṣṇaṃ ta ema ruśataḥ puro bhāścariṣṇva1rcirvapuṣāmidekam yadapravītā dadhate ha garbhaṃ sadyaścijjāto bhavasīdu dūtaḥ
Black, the seer dwelt in the town and moved among men; one song of the bodies pierced—the unborn placed the womb, and straightaway the born one became a messenger.

स॒द्यो जा॒तस्य॒ ददृ॑शान॒मोजो॒ यद॑स्य॒ वातो॑ अनु॒वाति॑ शो॒चिः । वृ॒णक्ति॑ ति॒ग्माम॑त॒सेषु॑ जि॒ह्वां स्थि॒रा चि॒दन्ना॑ दयते॒ वि जम्भैः॑
sadyo jātasya dadṛśānamojo yadasya vāto anuvāti śociḥ vṛṇakti tigmāmataseṣu jihvāṃ sthirā cidannā dayate vi jambhaiḥ
The vital force that appears at birth and follows the breath—grief. It seizes the sharp taste in the mouth, steadies the tongue, and grants food with sustenance by jaws.

तृ॒षु यदन्ना॑ तृ॒षुणा॑ व॒वक्ष॑ तृ॒षुं दू॒तं कृ॑णुते य॒ह्वो अ॒ग्निः । वात॑स्य मे॒ळिं स॑चते नि॒जूर्व॑न्ना॒शुं न वा॑जयते हि॒न्वे अर्वा॑
tṛṣu yadannā tṛṣuṇā vavakṣa tṛṣuṃ dūtaṃ kṛṇute yahvo agniḥ vātasya meḷiṃ sacate nijūrvannāśuṃ na vājayate hinve arvā
What food the thirsty one drinks when parched, Agni makes that messenger of thirst. The wind gathers its flock; it does not compel the eater—he seeks the oblation.
