दि॒वस्परि॑ प्रथ॒मं ज॑ज्ञे अ॒ग्निर॒स्मद्द्वि॒तीयं॒ परि॑ जा॒तवे॑दाः । तृ॒तीय॑म॒प्सु नृ॒मणा॒ अज॑स्र॒मिन्धा॑न एनं जरते स्वा॒धीः
divaspari prathamaṃ jajñe agnirasmaddvitīyaṃ pari jātavedāḥ tṛtīyamapsu nṛmaṇā ajasramindhāna enaṃ jarate svādhīḥ
Agni, first among the gods we know, second is he among the two-born; the third is in waters, abiding in men’s bodies, endless—this one burns with his own vital power.

वि॒द्मा ते॑ अग्ने त्रे॒धा त्र॒याणि॑ वि॒द्मा ते॒ धाम॒ विभृ॑ता पुरु॒त्रा । वि॒द्मा ते॒ नाम॑ पर॒मं गुहा॒ यद्वि॒द्मा तमुत्सं॒ यत॑ आज॒गन्थ॑
vidmā te agne tredhā trayāṇi vidmā te dhāma vibhṛtā purutrā vidmā te nāma paramaṃ guhā yadvidmā tamutsaṃ yata ājagantha
We know thee, Agni, in three ways, threefold; we know thy abodes spread out, the manifold progeny. We know thy highest name, the secret cave; we know that which springs forth that thou didst bring forth.

स॒मु॒द्रे त्वा॑ नृ॒मणा॑ अ॒प्स्व१॒॑न्तर्नृ॒चक्षा॑ ईधे दि॒वो अ॑ग्न॒ ऊध॑न् । तृ॒तीये॑ त्वा॒ रज॑सि तस्थि॒वांस॑म॒पामु॒पस्थे॑ महि॒षा अ॑वर्धन्
samudre tvā nṛmaṇā apsva1ntarnṛcakṣā īdhe divo agna ūdhan tṛtīye tvā rajasi tasthivāṃsamapāmupasthe mahiṣā avardhan
O Agni, men placed you within the waters and within the sea; the sky bore you upward. On the third (day) you stood in the dust; the herds approached you, increasing like buffaloes.

अक्र॑न्दद॒ग्निः स्त॒नय॑न्निव॒ द्यौः क्षामा॒ रेरि॑हद्वी॒रुधः॑ सम॒ञ्जन् । स॒द्यो ज॑ज्ञा॒नो वि हीमि॒द्धो अख्य॒दा रोद॑सी भा॒नुना॑ भात्य॒न्तः
akrandadagniḥ stanayanniva dyauḥ kṣāmā rerihadvīrudhaḥ samañjan sadyo jajñāno vi hīmiddho akhyadā rodasī bhānunā bhātyantaḥ
Agni roared, the heavens poured milk; the cow-like chariot-bearers filled strength and matched courage. Immediately the wise one, renowned in knowledge, shone like dawn, called forth by the radiant One.

श्री॒णामु॑दा॒रो ध॒रुणो॑ रयी॒णां म॑नी॒षाणां॒ प्रार्प॑णः॒ सोम॑गोपाः । वसुः॑ सू॒नुः सह॑सो अ॒प्सु राजा॒ वि भा॒त्यग्र॑ उ॒षसा॑मिधा॒नः
śrīṇāmudāro dharuṇo rayīṇāṃ manīṣāṇāṃ prārpaṇaḥ somagopāḥ vasuḥ sūnuḥ sahaso apsu rājā vi bhātyagra uṣasāmidhānaḥ
Bearing wealth and riches, the keepers of Soma brought offerings of the thinkers and of the people; the son of riches, with countless forces, like kings in the waters, shone at the foremost of dawn as a kindling.

viśvasya keturbhuvanasya garbha ā rodasī apṛṇājjāyamānaḥ vīḷuṃ cidadrimabhinatparāyañjanā yadagnimayajanta pañca
A banner of the universe, the womb of the world, Dawn was born unasked. The people pressed forward chanting; they kindled Agni fivefold and made offerings with reverent hands.

उ॒शिक्पा॑व॒को अ॑र॒तिः सु॑मे॒धा मर्ते॑ष्व॒ग्निर॒मृतो॒ नि धा॑यि । इय॑र्ति धू॒मम॑रु॒षं भरि॑भ्र॒दुच्छु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॒ द्यामिन॑क्षन्
uśikpāvako aratiḥ sumedhā marteṣvagniramṛto ni dhāyi iyarti dhūmamaruṣaṃ bharibhraducchukreṇa śociṣā dyāminakṣan
Agni, remover of pain, fairest of wisdom among mortals, you place immortality within men. You send forth smoke and the bright, pure radiance — the heavens looking on with pity.

दृ॒शा॒नो रु॒क्म उ॑र्वि॒या व्य॑द्यौद्दु॒र्मर्ष॒मायुः॑ श्रि॒ये रु॑चा॒नः । अ॒ग्निर॒मृतो॑ अभव॒द्वयो॑भि॒र्यदे॑नं॒ द्यौर्ज॒नय॑त्सु॒रेताः॑
dṛśāno rukma urviyā vyadyauddurmarṣamāyuḥ śriye rucānaḥ agniramṛto abhavadvayobhiryadenaṃ dyaurjanayatsuretāḥ
With radiant sight and golden splendour, opposing harshness, life and glory and brilliance arose. Agni became immortal for both by that might; the gods gave birth to the offspring.

यस्ते॑ अ॒द्य कृ॒णव॑द्भद्रशोचेऽपू॒पं दे॑व घृ॒तव॑न्तमग्ने । प्र तं न॑य प्रत॒रं वस्यो॒ अच्छा॒भि सु॒म्नं दे॒वभ॑क्तं यविष्ठ
yaste adya kṛṇavadbhadraśoce'pūpaṃ deva ghṛtavantamagne pra taṃ naya prataraṃ vasyo acchābhi sumnaṃ devabhaktaṃ yaviṣṭha
Whoever today performs the rite for you, O Agni, with purified ghee and the auspicious cry — guide that wealthy, devotional offering rightly; lead it back, O bestower, to the devoted worshipper.

आ तं भ॑ज सौश्रव॒सेष्व॑ग्न उ॒क्थौ॑क्थ॒ आ भ॑ज श॒स्यमा॑ने । प्रि॒यः सूर्ये॑ प्रि॒यो अ॒ग्ना भ॑वा॒त्युज्जा॒तेन॑ भि॒नद॒दुज्जनि॑त्वैः
ā taṃ bhaja sauśravaseṣvagna ukthauktha ā bhaja śasyamāne priyaḥ sūrye priyo agnā bhavātyujjātena bhinadadujjanitvaiḥ
Come, partake of the fame of the prosperous, O Agni, in the hymns and in the offerings; share in the growing crops. Beloved to the Sun and beloved Agni, be present by the uplifted birth — cleave to the begetters with vows.

त्वाम॑ग्ने॒ यज॑माना॒ अनु॒ द्यून्विश्वा॒ वसु॑ दधिरे॒ वार्या॑णि । त्वया॑ स॒ह द्रवि॑णमि॒च्छमा॑ना व्र॒जं गोम॑न्तमु॒शिजो॒ वि व॑व्रुः
tvāmagne yajamānā anu dyūnviśvā vasu dadhire vāryāṇi tvayā saha draviṇamicchamānā vrajaṃ gomantamuśijo vi vavruḥ
You, Agni, when worshipped, sustain all the riches; you uphold the courses of the waters. With you we desire prosperity and wealth; the cows and men have borne it forth and conveyed it.

अस्ता॑व्य॒ग्निर्न॒रां सु॒शेवो॑ वैश्वान॒र ऋषि॑भिः॒ सोम॑गोपाः । अ॒द्वे॒षे द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी हु॑वेम॒ देवा॑ ध॒त्त र॒यिम॒स्मे सु॒वीर॑म्
astāvyagnirnarāṃ suśevo vaiśvānara ṛṣibhiḥ somagopāḥ adveṣe dyāvāpṛthivī huvema devā dhatta rayimasme suvīram
Established is Agni as the auspicious preserver of men, O Vaishvanara, praised by the seers and guardians of Soma. We pour libations to heaven and earth without enmity; gods, grant us splendid strength.
