Agni, first among the gods we know, second is he among the two-born; the third is in waters, abiding in men’s bodies, endless—this one burns with his own vital power.
Agni was first born above the sky; as Ja-tavedas he was born the second time among us; the friend ofman, he was born the third time in the watters; the sage kindlin him eternally praises him.
FIRST Agni sprang to life from out of Heaven: the second time from us came Jatavedas. Thirdly the Manly-souled was in the waters. The pious lauds and kindles him the Eternal.
