कुह॑ श्रु॒त इन्द्रः॒ कस्मि॑न्न॒द्य जने॑ मि॒त्रो न श्रू॑यते । ऋषी॑णां वा॒ यः क्षये॒ गुहा॑ वा॒ चर्कृ॑षे गि॒रा
kuha śruta indraḥ kasminnadya jane mitro na śrūyate ṛṣīṇāṃ vā yaḥ kṣaye guhā vā carkṛṣe girā
Indra was heard like a mist — in which today among people is Mitra not heard? Is it by the seers’ decay or by the cave’s or the plucked mountain that the voice is hidden?

इ॒ह श्रु॒त इन्द्रो॑ अ॒स्मे अ॒द्य स्तवे॑ व॒ज्र्यृची॑षमः । मि॒त्रो न यो जने॒ष्वा यश॑श्च॒क्रे असा॒म्या
iha śruta indro asme adya stave vajryṛcīṣamaḥ mitro na yo janeṣvā yaśaścakre asāmyā
Hear, Indra, what was heard by us today: you, victorious, bestowed strength. Mitra, who among men created glory for us?

म॒हो यस्पतिः॒ शव॑सो॒ असा॒म्या म॒हो नृ॒म्णस्य॑ तूतु॒जिः । भ॒र्ता वज्र॑स्य धृ॒ष्णोः पि॒ता पु॒त्रमि॑व प्रि॒यम्
maho yaspatiḥ śavaso asāmyā maho nṛmṇasya tūtujiḥ bhartā vajrasya dhṛṣṇoḥ pitā putramiva priyam
Great lord, great was the gift of the slain; great was the praise of men. O bearer of the bolt, like a father loving his son, be kindly to us.

यु॒जा॒नो अश्वा॒ वात॑स्य॒ धुनी॑ दे॒वो दे॒वस्य॑ वज्रिवः । स्यन्ता॑ प॒था वि॒रुक्म॑ता सृजा॒नः स्तो॒ष्यध्व॑नः
yujāno aśvā vātasya dhunī devo devasya vajrivaḥ syantā pathā virukmatā sṛjānaḥ stoṣyadhvanaḥ
Yoked horses, breath of the wind, the god of gods, bolt-bearing—drive the paths wide; creators, laud with thunderous voice.

त्वं त्या चि॒द्वात॒स्याश्वागा॑ ऋ॒ज्रा त्मना॒ वह॑ध्यै । ययो॑र्दे॒वो न मर्त्यो॑ य॒न्ता नकि॑र्वि॒दाय्यः॑
tvaṃ tyā cidvātasyāśvāgā ṛjrā tmanā vahadhyai yayordevo na martyo yantā nakirvidāyyaḥ
You, O wind-born steeds, straight as mind, carry us. The gods are not mortal; they move beyond human ken.

अध॒ ग्मन्तो॒शना॑ पृच्छते वां॒ कद॑र्था न॒ आ गृ॒हम् । आ ज॑ग्मथुः परा॒काद्दि॒वश्च॒ ग्मश्च॒ मर्त्य॑म्
adha gmantośanā pṛcchate vāṃ kadarthā na ā gṛham ā jagmathuḥ parākāddivaśca gmaśca martyam
Those who went down asked: 'Why did you not come home?' They went from afar, some to heaven, some unto mortal place.

आ न॑ इन्द्र पृक्षसे॒ऽस्माकं॒ ब्रह्मोद्य॑तम् । तत्त्वा॑ याचाम॒हेऽवः॒ शुष्णं॒ यद्धन्नमा॑नुषम्
ā na indra pṛkṣase'smākaṃ brahmodyatam tattvā yācāmahe'vaḥ śuṣṇaṃ yaddhannamānuṣam
We do not ask you, Indra, about our rising fame. We beg only that you grant us the warm gift which is human.

अ॒क॒र्मा दस्यु॑र॒भि नो॑ अम॒न्तुर॒न्यव्र॑तो॒ अमा॑नुषः । त्वं तस्या॑मित्रह॒न्वध॑र्दा॒सस्य॑ दम्भय
akarmā dasyurabhi no amanturanyavrato amānuṣaḥ tvaṃ tasyāmitrahanvadhardāsasya dambhaya
The lawless enemy has plotted against us, unrighteous and inhuman. Strike down that enemy, O bolt‑bearer, shatter his pride.

त्वं न॑ इन्द्र शूर॒ शूरै॑रु॒त त्वोता॑सो ब॒र्हणा॑ । पु॒रु॒त्रा ते॒ वि पू॒र्तयो॒ नव॑न्त क्षो॒णयो॑ यथा
tvaṃ na indra śūra śūrairuta tvotāso barhaṇā purutrā te vi pūrtayo navanta kṣoṇayo yathā
You are not Indra by words alone; you are famed in deeds, O bolt‑bearer. Your heroes filled cities and renewed them like new moments.

त्वं तान्वृ॑त्र॒हत्ये॑ चोदयो॒ नॄन्का॑र्पा॒णे शू॑र वज्रिवः । गुहा॒ यदी॑ कवी॒नां वि॒शां नक्ष॑त्रशवसाम्
tvaṃ tānvṛtrahatye codayo nṝnkārpāṇe śūra vajrivaḥ guhā yadī kavīnāṃ viśāṃ nakṣatraśavasām
You urged them to slay Vṛtra and stirred men to brave deeds; bolt‑bearer, if hidden among poets are the hosts of stars, reveal them.

म॒क्षू ता त॑ इन्द्र दा॒नाप्न॑स आक्षा॒णे शू॑र वज्रिवः । यद्ध॒ शुष्ण॑स्य द॒म्भयो॑ जा॒तं विश्वं॑ स॒याव॑भिः
makṣū tā ta indra dānāpnasa ākṣāṇe śūra vajrivaḥ yaddha śuṣṇasya dambhayo jātaṃ viśvaṃ sayāvabhiḥ
O Indra, you gave the heroic gifts; bolt‑bearer, you have won glories. Whatever pride was born of the warm one has spread through the world with allies.

माकु॒ध्र्य॑गिन्द्र शूर॒ वस्वी॑र॒स्मे भू॑वन्न॒भिष्ट॑यः । व॒यंव॑यं त आसां सु॒म्ने स्या॑म वज्रिवः
mākudhryagindra śūra vasvīrasme bhūvannabhiṣṭayaḥ vayaṃvayaṃ ta āsāṃ sumne syāma vajrivaḥ
Do not be angry, mighty Indra; fulfill our wishes. We, O bolt‑bearer, may be for you like a sweet gift in the assembly.

अ॒स्मे ता त॑ इन्द्र सन्तु स॒त्याहिं॑सन्तीरुप॒स्पृशः॑ । वि॒द्याम॒ यासां॒ भुजो॑ धेनू॒नां न व॑ज्रिवः
asme tā ta indra santu satyāhiṃsantīrupaspṛśaḥ vidyāma yāsāṃ bhujo dhenūnāṃ na vajrivaḥ
May those gifts be ours, Indra—truthful, harmless, touchable. May the knowledge of those be ours, like the arms of cows, O bolt‑bearer.

अ॒ह॒स्ता यद॒पदी॒ वर्ध॑त॒ क्षाः शची॑भिर्वे॒द्याना॑म् । शुष्णं॒ परि॑ प्रदक्षि॒णिद्वि॒श्वाय॑वे॒ नि शि॑श्नथः
ahastā yadapadī vardhata kṣāḥ śacībhirvedyānām śuṣṇaṃ pari pradakṣiṇidviśvāyave ni śiśnathaḥ
When trouble increased in the place that was fallen, Shačī's swift ones were seen needing help. The warm one went around in the airy world and pierced it.

पिबा॑पि॒बेदि॑न्द्र शूर॒ सोमं॒ मा रि॑षण्यो वसवान॒ वसुः॒ सन् । उ॒त त्रा॑यस्व गृण॒तो म॒घोनो॑ म॒हश्च॑ रा॒यो रे॒वत॑स्कृधी नः
pibāpibedindra śūra somaṃ mā riṣaṇyo vasavāna vasuḥ san uta trāyasva gṛṇato maghono mahaśca rāyo revataskṛdhī naḥ
Drink, O brave Indra, the Soma; do not be stingy, thou wealthiest of the Vasus. Protect us, speak praise: may the great gifts and generous rule be ours.
