ए॒ता उ॒ त्या उ॒षसः॑ के॒तुम॑क्रत॒ पूर्वे॒ अर्धे॒ रज॑सो भा॒नुम॑ञ्जते । नि॒ष्कृ॒ण्वा॒ना आयु॑धानीव धृ॒ष्णवः॒ प्रति॒ गावोऽरु॑षीर्यन्ति मा॒तरः॑
etā u tyā uṣasaḥ ketumakrata pūrve ardhe rajaso bhānumañjate niṣkṛṇvānā āyudhānīva dhṛṣṇavaḥ prati gāvo'ruṣīryanti mātaraḥ
These banners of the dawn shine forth, flagged in the earlier half of the bright realm; drawing out life like a tide, the cows approach, the mothers lowing.

उद॑पप्तन्नरु॒णा भा॒नवो॒ वृथा॑ स्वा॒युजो॒ अरु॑षी॒र्गा अ॑युक्षत । अक्र॑न्नु॒षासो॑ व॒युना॑नि पू॒र्वथा॒ रुश॑न्तं भा॒नुमरु॑षीरशिश्रयुः
udapaptannaruṇā bhānavo vṛthā svāyujo aruṣīrgā ayukṣata akrannuṣāso vayunāni pūrvathā ruśantaṃ bhānumaruṣīraśiśrayuḥ
When the people’s red dawn arose, the radiant ones shone vainly; they themselves did not win youth. The unblamed ones, like wind, went before, the shining ones breathing forth the radiant beam.

अर्च॑न्ति॒ नारी॑र॒पसो॒ न वि॒ष्टिभिः॑ समा॒नेन॒ योज॑ने॒ना प॑रा॒वतः॑ । इषं॒ वह॑न्तीः सु॒कृते॑ सु॒दान॑वे॒ विश्वेदह॒ यज॑मानाय सुन्व॒ते
arcanti nārīrapaso na viṣṭibhiḥ samānena yojanenā parāvataḥ iṣaṃ vahantīḥ sukṛte sudānave viśvedaha yajamānāya sunvate
Women do not adore the waters with equal placid rites; borne from afar they bring this longing. Bearing desire, the well-formed, noble ones, whoever are invoked, all praise the sacrificer.

अधि॒ पेशां॑सि वपते नृ॒तूरि॒वापो॑र्णुते॒ वक्ष॑ उ॒स्रेव॒ बर्ज॑हम् । ज्योति॒र्विश्व॑स्मै॒ भुव॑नाय कृण्व॒ती गावो॒ न व्र॒जं व्यु१॒॑षा आ॑व॒र्तमः॑
adhi peśāṃsi vapate nṛtūrivāporṇute vakṣa usreva barjaham jyotirviśvasmai bhuvanāya kṛṇvatī gāvo na vrajaṃ vyu1ṣā āvartamaḥ
Upon the flanks the companion poured, like a dancer the waters returned; the chest like a cow gives milk. The lights for the world he makes; the cows do not wander, we turn about in joyous herds.

प्रत्य॒र्ची रुश॑दस्या अदर्शि॒ वि ति॑ष्ठते॒ बाध॑ते कृ॒ष्णमभ्व॑म् । स्वरुं॒ न पेशो॑ वि॒दथे॑ष्व॒ञ्जञ्चि॒त्रं दि॒वो दु॑हि॒ता भा॒नुम॑श्रेत्
pratyarcī ruśadasyā adarśi vi tiṣṭhate bādhate kṛṣṇamabhvam svaruṃ na peśo vidatheṣvañjañcitraṃ divo duhitā bhānumaśret
Facing east the radiant one of Rudra saw and stood; he afflicts the black ones. In the ways the bright ones do not enter; by the wondrous sky the cow of light gave milk to the shining Bhānu.

अता॑रिष्म॒ तम॑सस्पा॒रम॒स्योषा उ॒च्छन्ती॑ व॒युना॑ कृणोति । श्रि॒ये छन्दो॒ न स्म॑यते विभा॒ती सु॒प्रती॑का सौमन॒साया॑जीगः
atāriṣma tamasaspāramasyoṣā ucchantī vayunā kṛṇoti śriye chando na smayate vibhātī supratīkā saumanasāyājīgaḥ
Thence he drove away the darkness, the breeze freeing his trace; the wind accomplishes it. The meter rejoices not in glory, but shines like a well-favored soul with pleasant form.

भास्व॑ती ने॒त्री सू॒नृता॑नां दि॒वः स्त॑वे दुहि॒ता गोत॑मेभिः । प्र॒जाव॑तो नृ॒वतो॒ अश्व॑बुध्या॒नुषो॒ गोअ॑ग्रा॒ँ उप॑ मासि॒ वाजा॑न्
bhāsvatī netrī sūnṛtānāṃ divaḥ stave duhitā gotamebhiḥ prajāvato nṛvato aśvabudhyānuṣo goagrām̐ upa māsi vājān
Bright-eyed, she milked the praises of heaven for the daughters of Gotama. From the procreative folk, skilled in horses, the cows came forth at the fore, offering strength in the assembly.

उष॒स्तम॑श्यां य॒शसं॑ सु॒वीरं॑ दा॒सप्र॑वर्गं र॒यिमश्व॑बुध्यम् । सु॒दंस॑सा॒ श्रव॑सा॒ या वि॒भासि॒ वाज॑प्रसूता सुभगे बृ॒हन्त॑म्
uṣastamaśyāṃ yaśasaṃ suvīraṃ dāsapravargaṃ rayimaśvabudhyam sudaṃsasā śravasā yā vibhāsi vājaprasūtā subhage bṛhantam
At dawn she brought fame, a noble hero, a herd of servants—rich in horse-wisdom. The lovely-robed, famed in hearing, she who sheds light, born of vigor, splendid and great.

विश्वा॑नि दे॒वी भुव॑नाभि॒चक्ष्या॑ प्रती॒ची चक्षु॑रुर्वि॒या वि भा॑ति । विश्वं॑ जी॒वं च॒रसे॑ बो॒धय॑न्ती॒ विश्व॑स्य॒ वाच॑मविदन्मना॒योः
viśvāni devī bhuvanābhicakṣyā pratīcī cakṣururviyā vi bhāti viśvaṃ jīvaṃ carase bodhayantī viśvasya vācamavidanmanāyoḥ
All goddesses behold the worlds; the east eye shines through them and illumines. She who makes the world live and move awakens the speech of the world for mind and heart.

पुनः॑पुन॒र्जाय॑माना पुरा॒णी स॑मा॒नं वर्ण॑म॒भि शुम्भ॑माना । श्व॒घ्नीव॑ कृ॒त्नुर्विज॑ आमिना॒ना मर्त॑स्य दे॒वी ज॒रय॒न्त्यायुः॑
punaḥpunarjāyamānā purāṇī samānaṃ varṇamabhi śumbhamānā śvaghnīva kṛtnurvija āminānā martasya devī jarayantyāyuḥ
Born again and again, ancient, she equaled color like a great storm. Like flame she kindles, with heroic thought she renews the mortal’s life; the goddess lengthens his days.

व्यू॒र्ण्व॒ती दि॒वो अन्ता॑ँ अबो॒ध्यप॒ स्वसा॑रं सनु॒तर्यु॑योति । प्र॒मि॒न॒ती म॑नु॒ष्या॑ यु॒गानि॒ योषा॑ जा॒रस्य॒ चक्ष॑सा॒ वि भा॑ति
vyūrṇvatī divo antām̐ abodhyapa svasāraṃ sanutaryuyoti praminatī manuṣyā yugāni yoṣā jārasya cakṣasā vi bhāti
She spreads the extremes of heaven, the waters revealed; bearing her breath she quickens offspring. She shines upon the orders of mankind; with the eye of age she makes the eras of humans apparent.

प॒शून्न चि॒त्रा सु॒भगा॑ प्रथा॒ना सिन्धु॒र्न क्षोद॑ उर्वि॒या व्य॑श्वैत् । अमि॑नती॒ दैव्या॑नि व्र॒तानि॒ सूर्य॑स्य चेति र॒श्मिभि॑र्दृशा॒ना
paśūnna citrā subhagā prathānā sindhurna kṣoda urviyā vyaśvait aminatī daivyāni vratāni sūryasya ceti raśmibhirdṛśānā
The cattle, variegated and fair, like the Sindhu, do not overflow the plain with their coursing waters; the divine vows of the radiant Sun are unassailed—seen by his rays.

उष॒स्तच्चि॒त्रमा भ॑रा॒स्मभ्यं॑ वाजिनीवति । येन॑ तो॒कं च॒ तन॑यं च॒ धाम॑हे
uṣastaccitramā bharāsmabhyaṃ vājinīvati yena tokaṃ ca tanayaṃ ca dhāmahe
O radiant Dawn, bear richly for us, like the strong chariot—by which we obtain sustenance and offspring.

uṣo adyeha gomatyaśvāvati vibhāvari revadasme vyuccha sūnṛtāvati
This dawn today brings cows and horses to us across the waters; grant us riches, O radiant ones, like abundant offspring.

yukṣvā hi vājinīvatyaśvām̐ adyāruṇām̐ uṣaḥ athā no viśvā saubhagānyā vaha
Harness the strong mares and the horses of the radiant Dawn; then bring to us all auspicious possessions.

अश्वि॑ना व॒र्तिर॒स्मदा गोम॑द्दस्रा॒ हिर॑ण्यवत् । अ॒र्वाग्रथं॒ सम॑नसा॒ नि य॑च्छतम्
aśvinā vartirasmadā gomaddasrā hiraṇyavat arvāgrathaṃ samanasā ni yacchatam
O Ashvins, the provider of our cows has come with gleaming wealth; with a united mind grant what is fitting.

यावि॒त्था श्लोक॒मा दि॒वो ज्योति॒र्जना॑य च॒क्रथुः॑ । आ न॒ ऊर्जं॑ वहतमश्विना यु॒वम्
yāvitthā ślokamā divo jyotirjanāya cakrathuḥ ā na ūrjaṃ vahatamaśvinā yuvam
As long as the shining splendour of the sky and its people endure, bring us vigour, O Ashvins, you who are youthful.

एह दे॒वा म॑यो॒भुवा॑ द॒स्रा हिर॑ण्यवर्तनी । उ॒ष॒र्बुधो॑ वहन्तु॒ सोम॑पीतये
eha devā mayobhuvā dasrā hiraṇyavartanī uṣarbudho vahantu somapītaye
Here the gods became rich in me, O radiant ones, bearing golden gifts; carry the bright Soma for drinking.
