अता॑रिष्म॒ तम॑सस्पा॒रम॒स्योषा उ॒च्छन्ती॑ व॒युना॑ कृणोति । श्रि॒ये छन्दो॒ न स्म॑यते विभा॒ती सु॒प्रती॑का सौमन॒साया॑जीगः
atāriṣma tamasaspāramasyoṣā ucchantī vayunā kṛṇoti śriye chando na smayate vibhātī supratīkā saumanasāyājīgaḥ
Thence he drove away the darkness, the breeze freeing his trace; the wind accomplishes it. The meter rejoices not in glory, but shines like a well-favored soul with pleasant form.
We have crossed over the boundary of darkness. Uṣas restores the consciousness (of living beings); bright-shining, she smiles, like a flatterer to obtain favour, and, lovely in all her radiance, she has swallowed, for our delight the darkness.
We have o'erpast the limit of this darkness; Dawn breaking forth again brings clear perception. She like a flatterer smiles in light for glory, and fair of face hath wakened to rejoice us.
