पिबा॑ सु॒तस्य॑ र॒सिनो॒ मत्स्वा॑ न इन्द्र॒ गोम॑तः । आ॒पिर्नो॑ बोधि सध॒माद्यो॑ वृ॒धे॒३॒॑ऽस्माँ अ॑वन्तु ते॒ धियः॑
pibā sutasya rasino matsvā na indra gomataḥ āpirno bodhi sadhamādyo vṛdhe3'smām̐ avantu te dhiyaḥ
Drink, O one of the brave, the draught of essence; do not withhold Indra’s bovine gifts. May the waters first make us wise; elders grant us understanding.

bhūyāma te sumatau vājino vayaṃ mā naḥ starabhimātaye asmāñcitrābhiravatādabhiṣṭibhirā naḥ sumneṣu yāmaya
May we further dwell in your good counsel, O bounteous ones; do not despise us for blame. With varied desires, grant us riches in the auspicious seats.

imā u tvā purūvaso giro vardhantu yā mama pāvakavarṇāḥ śucayo vipaścito'bhi stomairanūṣata
May these ancient songs of yours flourish that are mine: the radiant, pure, wise ones sing near the hymns, seasoned with praise.

अ॒यं स॒हस्र॒मृषि॑भिः॒ सह॑स्कृतः समु॒द्र इ॑व पप्रथे । स॒त्यः सो अ॑स्य महि॒मा गृ॑णे॒ शवो॑ य॒ज्ञेषु॑ विप्र॒राज्ये॑
ayaṃ sahasramṛṣibhiḥ sahaskṛtaḥ samudra iva paprathe satyaḥ so asya mahimā gṛṇe śavo yajñeṣu viprarājye
He spread with a thousand seers, made abundant like the sea; I proclaim that his greatness is truth—his fame in sacrifices, in the realm of priests.

indramiddevatātaya indraṃ prayatyadhvare indraṃ samīke vanino havāmaha indraṃ dhanasya sātaye
Indra, leader of gods, went forth to Indra’s harness; we offered Indra gifts; we called Indra to the foremost place, to enrich Indra’s wealth.

इन्द्रो॑ म॒ह्ना रोद॑सी पप्रथ॒च्छव॒ इन्द्रः॒ सूर्य॑मरोचयत् । इन्द्रे॑ ह॒ विश्वा॒ भुव॑नानि येमिर॒ इन्द्रे॑ सुवा॒नास॒ इन्द॑वः
indro mahnā rodasī paprathacchava indraḥ sūryamarocayat indre ha viśvā bhuvanāni yemira indre suvānāsa indavaḥ
Indra, puissant, hastened with radiance; Indra revealed the sun. In Indra are all the worlds; in Indra the shining ones move like bulls.

abhi tvā pūrvapītaya indra stomebhirāyavaḥ samīcīnāsa ṛbhavaḥ samasvaranrudrā gṛṇanta pūrvyam
To you the first-offered libations, Indra, the singers brought in hymns. The radiant seers, the thunderous-voiced Rudras, praised you of old.

अ॒स्येदिन्द्रो॑ वावृधे॒ वृष्ण्यं॒ शवो॒ मदे॑ सु॒तस्य॒ विष्ण॑वि । अ॒द्या तम॑स्य महि॒मान॑मा॒यवोऽनु॑ ष्टुवन्ति पू॒र्वथा॑
asyedindro vāvṛdhe vṛṣṇyaṃ śavo made sutasya viṣṇavi adyā tamasya mahimānamāyavo'nu ṣṭuvanti pūrvathā
From him grew might, O Indra, the herd, wealth of the son born of Soma. Today they laud his greatness as of old with hymns and songs.

तत्त्वा॑ यामि सु॒वीर्यं॒ तद्ब्रह्म॑ पू॒र्वचि॑त्तये । येना॒ यति॑भ्यो॒ भृग॑वे॒ धने॑ हि॒ते येन॒ प्रस्क॑ण्व॒मावि॑थ
tattvā yāmi suvīryaṃ tadbrahma pūrvacittaye yenā yatibhyo bhṛgave dhane hite yena praskaṇvamāvitha
I have perceived the superb hero, the Brahman of former thought by whom the reachers to wealth—by whom Bhṛgu reached benefit and drove away the foe.

yenā samudramasṛjo mahīrapastadindra vṛṣṇi te śavaḥ sadyaḥ so asya mahimā na saṃnaśe yaṃ kṣoṇīranucakrade
By whom the sea was set in motion and the plains were formed—that Indra, your herds are his. Sudden is his greatness; it will not perish when the destroyer approached.

श॒ग्धी न॑ इन्द्र॒ यत्त्वा॑ र॒यिं यामि॑ सु॒वीर्य॑म् । श॒ग्धि वाजा॑य प्रथ॒मं सिषा॑सते श॒ग्धि स्तोमा॑य पूर्व्य
śagdhī na indra yattvā rayiṃ yāmi suvīryam śagdhi vājāya prathamaṃ siṣāsate śagdhi stomāya pūrvya
Indra praised the draught that I bring to wealth for the brave; first he offered praise for the kine, praise for the hymn of old.

श॒ग्धी नो॑ अ॒स्य यद्ध॑ पौ॒रमावि॑थ॒ धिय॑ इन्द्र॒ सिषा॑सतः । श॒ग्धि यथा॒ रुश॑मं॒ श्याव॑कं॒ कृप॒मिन्द्र॒ प्रावः॒ स्व॑र्णरम्
śagdhī no asya yaddha pauramāvitha dhiya indra siṣāsataḥ śagdhi yathā ruśamaṃ śyāvakaṃ kṛpamindra prāvaḥ svarṇaram
May the swift one bring to us what belongs to this house, O Indra, pouring forth with thought; like rushing foam, like the dark stag, gracious Indra, send forth the golden wealth.

कन्नव्यो॑ अत॒सीनां॑ तु॒रो गृ॑णीत॒ मर्त्यः॑ । न॒ही न्व॑स्य महि॒मान॑मिन्द्रि॒यं स्व॑र्गृ॒णन्त॑ आन॒शुः
kannavyo atasīnāṃ turo gṛṇīta martyaḥ nahī nvasya mahimānamindriyaṃ svargṛṇanta ānaśuḥ
Praise him, mortal, who called the kin: they do not deny his great might; they proclaim the heavenly greatness of him who is swift in action.

kadu stuvanta ṛtayanta devata ṛṣiḥ ko vipra ohate kadā havaṃ maghavannindra sunvataḥ kadu stuvata ā gamaḥ
Who praised the gods at the appointed rites? Which seer, which priest performs the oblation? When did we sing the hymn of mighty Indra? When came he who accepted our praise?

उदु॒ त्ये मधु॑मत्तमा॒ गिरः॒ स्तोमा॑स ईरते । स॒त्रा॒जितो॑ धन॒सा अक्षि॑तोतयो वाज॒यन्तो॒ रथा॑ इव
udu tye madhumattamā giraḥ stomāsa īrate satrājito dhanasā akṣitotayo vājayanto rathā iva
Out of the ocean the sweetest speech rises, the hymn rejoices; conqueror of foes, clothed in riches, they harness him like a chariot.

कण्वा॑ इव॒ भृग॑वः॒ सूर्या॑ इव॒ विश्व॒मिद्धी॒तमा॑नशुः । इन्द्रं॒ स्तोमे॑भिर्म॒हय॑न्त आ॒यवः॑ प्रि॒यमे॑धासो अस्वरन्
kaṇvā iva bhṛgavaḥ sūryā iva viśvamiddhītamānaśuḥ indraṃ stomebhirmahayanta āyavaḥ priyamedhāso asvaran
Like Kanva is Bṛgu, like the sun is all the celebrated hosts; with hymns they magnify Indra, the beloved of riches, resounding with splendid gifts.

यु॒क्ष्वा हि वृ॑त्रहन्तम॒ हरी॑ इन्द्र परा॒वतः॑ । अ॒र्वा॒ची॒नो म॑घव॒न्सोम॑पीतय उ॒ग्र ऋ॒ष्वेभि॒रा ग॑हि
yukṣvā hi vṛtrahantama harī indra parāvataḥ arvācīno maghavansomapītaya ugra ṛṣvebhirā gahi
Bind fast, for he slew Vṛtra—Indra beyond the flood. The swift sons of Moghava seized him with fierce runnings like bolting steeds.

इ॒मे हि ते॑ का॒रवो॑ वाव॒शुर्धि॒या विप्रा॑सो मे॒धसा॑तये । स त्वं नो॑ मघवन्निन्द्र गिर्वणो वे॒नो न शृ॑णुधी॒ हव॑म्
ime hi te kāravo vāvaśurdhiyā viprāso medhasātaye sa tvaṃ no maghavannindra girvaṇo veno na śaṛṇudhī havam
These, indeed, are your deeds, O Indra, fashioned by wisdom for the seers’ benefit. But you, mighty Indra, do not listen to my weak speech; grant the hymn.

निरि॑न्द्र बृह॒तीभ्यो॑ वृ॒त्रं धनु॑भ्यो अस्फुरः । निरर्बु॑दस्य॒ मृग॑यस्य मा॒यिनो॒ निः पर्व॑तस्य॒ गा आ॑जः
nirindra bṛhatībhyo vṛtraṃ dhanubhyo asphuraḥ nirarbudasya mṛgayasya māyino niḥ parvatasya gā ājaḥ
He struck down Vṛtra from the mighty ones, flashing from the bows; he did not let the hunter’s prize, the cunning quarry, escape from the mountain—he brought it forth.

निर॒ग्नयो॑ रुरुचु॒र्निरु॒ सूर्यो॒ निः सोम॑ इन्द्रि॒यो रसः॑ । निर॒न्तरि॑क्षादधमो म॒हामहिं॑ कृ॒षे तदि॑न्द्र॒ पौंस्य॑म्
niragnayo rurucurniru sūryo niḥ soma indriyo rasaḥ nirantarikṣādadhamo mahāmahiṃ kṛṣe tadindra pauṃsyam
He dispelled fires and making day, the sun arose; Indra tasted the juice unattainable by Soma. From the lower atmosphere he stretched forth great might, he brought the abundant draught.

यं मे॒ दुरिन्द्रो॑ म॒रुतः॒ पाक॑स्थामा॒ कौर॑याणः । विश्वे॑षां॒ त्मना॒ शोभि॑ष्ठ॒मुपे॑व दि॒वि धाव॑मानम्
yaṃ me durindro marutaḥ pākasthāmā kaurayāṇaḥ viśveṣāṃ tmanā śobhiṣṭhamupeva divi dhāvamānam
May that hostile Marut, standing opposite, be to me as the runner who shines with all forms; may he, with all beings’ spirit, adorn and chase across the sky.

रोहि॑तं मे॒ पाक॑स्थामा सु॒धुरं॑ कक्ष्य॒प्राम् । अदा॑द्रा॒यो वि॒बोध॑नम्
rohitaṃ me pākasthāmā sudhuraṃ kakṣyaprām adādrāyo vibodhanam
Bring forth for me the ruddy Marut, sure and fit for the enclosure; he who awakens the waters gave lively notification.

यस्मा॑ अ॒न्ये दश॒ प्रति॒ धुरं॒ वह॑न्ति॒ वह्न॑यः । अस्तं॒ वयो॒ न तुग्र्य॑म्
yasmā anye daśa prati dhuraṃ vahanti vahnayaḥ astaṃ vayo na tugryam
From whom others carry ten each around the axle, this we do not bring to distress.

ātmā pitustanūrvāsa ojodā abhyañjanam turīyamidrohitasya pākasthāmānaṃ bhojaṃ dātāramabravam
My soul and father and body pour forth strength; O anointer, I share the food of the fourth who is hostile, calling him donor.
