या त॑ ऊ॒तिर॑व॒मा या प॑र॒मा या म॑ध्य॒मेन्द्र॑ शुष्मि॒न्नस्ति॑ । ताभि॑रू॒ षु वृ॑त्र॒हत्ये॑ऽवीर्न ए॒भिश्च॒ वाजै॑र्म॒हान्न॑ उग्र
yā ta ūtiravamā yā paramā yā madhyamendra śuṣminnasti tābhirū ṣu vṛtrahatye'vīrna ebhiśca vājairmahānna ugra
She who is highest, she who is lower, she who is in the middle—Indra lies in the subtle‑breathed one. Through them the slayers of Vṛtra were energized; these mighty powers with great raiment are fierce in might.

आभिः॒ स्पृधो॑ मिथ॒तीररि॑षण्यन्न॒मित्र॑स्य व्यथया म॒न्युमि॑न्द्र । आभि॒र्विश्वा॑ अभि॒युजो॒ विषू॑ची॒रार्या॑य॒ विशोऽव॑ तारी॒र्दासीः॑
ābhiḥ spṛdho mithatīrariṣaṇyannamitrasya vyathayā manyumindra ābhirviśvā abhiyujo viṣūcīrāryāya viśo'va tārīrdāsīḥ
With offerings you contended, O bold one; the hostile river’s waters afflicted the friend, O mighty Indra. With offerings you yoked all the enemies, the pierced host; you, O Dāsi, drove them away.

इन्द्र॑ जा॒मय॑ उ॒त येऽजा॑मयोऽर्वाची॒नासो॑ व॒नुषो॑ युयु॒ज्रे । त्वमे॑षां विथु॒रा शवां॑सि ज॒हि वृष्ण्या॑नि कृणु॒ही परा॑चः
indra jāmaya uta ye'jāmayo'rvācīnāso vanuṣo yuyujre tvameṣāṃ vithurā śavāṃsi jahi vṛṣṇyāni kṛṇuhī parācaḥ
Indra struck down those born of night, the hostile speakers who ranged among the people. You destroyed their formations like carcasses; drive away their fierce offspring, make a separation.

शूरो॑ वा॒ शूरं॑ वनते॒ शरी॑रैस्तनू॒रुचा॒ तरु॑षि॒ यत्कृ॒ण्वैते॑ । तो॒के वा॒ गोषु॒ तन॑ये॒ यद॒प्सु वि क्रन्द॑सी उ॒र्वरा॑सु॒ ब्रवै॑ते
śūro vā śūraṃ vanate śarīraistanūrucā taruṣi yatkṛṇvaite toke vā goṣu tanaye yadapsu vi krandasī urvarāsu bravaite
A hero or the hero’s hero makes the forest ring with bodies and limbs like bright trees he has fashioned. He brings forth calves among cows; when waters roar he proclaims the abundant ones.

न॒हि त्वा॒ शूरो॒ न तु॒रो न धृ॒ष्णुर्न त्वा॑ यो॒धो मन्य॑मानो यु॒योध॑ । इन्द्र॒ नकि॑ष्ट्वा॒ प्रत्य॑स्त्येषां॒ विश्वा॑ जा॒तान्य॒भ्य॑सि॒ तानि॑
nahi tvā śūro na turo na dhṛṣṇurna tvā yodho manyamāno yuyodha indra nakiṣṭvā pratyastyeṣāṃ viśvā jātānyabhyasi tāni
You are not the brave one, nor the rash, nor the fierce; you, thinking yourself a warrior, do not fight. Indra did not neglect them; he set aside all creatures and those born.

स प॑त्यत उ॒भयो॑र्नृ॒म्णम॒योर्यदी॑ वे॒धसः॑ समि॒थे हव॑न्ते । वृ॒त्रे वा॑ म॒हो नृ॒वति॒ क्षये॑ वा॒ व्यच॑स्वन्ता॒ यदि॑ वितन्त॒सैते॑
sa patyata ubhayornṛmṇamayoryadī vedhasaḥ samithe havante vṛtre vā maho nṛvati kṣaye vā vyacasvantā yadi vitantasaite
He appeased the sire of both peoples when the knowers offered oblations together. If, being spread out, these steeds of the wide one fall in Vritra’s place or in decline, then let them be severed.

अध॑ स्मा ते चर्ष॒णयो॒ यदेजा॒निन्द्र॑ त्रा॒तोत भ॑वा वरू॒ता । अ॒स्माका॑सो॒ ये नृत॑मासो अ॒र्य इन्द्र॑ सू॒रयो॑ दधि॒रे पु॒रो नः॑
adha smā te carṣaṇayo yadejānindra trātota bhavā varūtā asmākāso ye nṛtamāso arya indra sūrayo dadhire puro naḥ
May the crushing of foes that Indra once began for us be for our protection; the skies that are ours, the dancers and the noble ones—Indra made steadfast the spacious household for us.

अनु॑ ते दायि म॒ह इ॑न्द्रि॒याय॑ स॒त्रा ते॒ विश्व॒मनु॑ वृत्र॒हत्ये॑ । अनु॑ क्ष॒त्रमनु॒ सहो॑ यज॒त्रेन्द्र॑ दे॒वेभि॒रनु॑ ते नृ॒षह्ये॑
anu te dāyi maha indriyāya satrā te viśvamanu vṛtrahatye anu kṣatramanu saho yajatrendra devebhiranu te nṛṣahye
Follow him, O giver, with mighty senses; he is wholly for you in slaying Vṛtra. Follow him as protector in sacrifice, O Indra, with the gods; follow him in kingship, O vanquisher of foes.

ए॒वा नः॒ स्पृधः॒ सम॑जा स॒मत्स्विन्द्र॑ रार॒न्धि मि॑थ॒तीरदे॑वीः । वि॒द्याम॒ वस्तो॒रव॑सा गृ॒णन्तो॑ भ॒रद्वा॑जा उ॒त त॑ इन्द्र नू॒नम्
evā naḥ spṛdhaḥ samajā samatsvindra rārandhi mithatīradevīḥ vidyāma vastoravasā gṛṇanto bharadvājā uta ta indra nūnam
Thus our rivalry was matched; Indra, ye goddesses of the riverbanks, have made equal the worldly-born. Vidyā and the dwelling’s wealth proclaimed Bharadvāja and indeed Indra is supreme.
