आ वो॒ राजा॑नमध्व॒रस्य॑ रु॒द्रं होता॑रं सत्य॒यजं॒ रोद॑स्योः । अ॒ग्निं पु॒रा त॑नयि॒त्नोर॒चित्ता॒द्धिर॑ण्यरूप॒मव॑से कृणुध्वम्
ā vo rājānamadhvarasya rudraṃ hotāraṃ satyayajaṃ rodasyoḥ agniṃ purā tanayitnoracittāddhiraṇyarūpamavase kṛṇudhvam
O kings, call upon Rudra, the sacrificer, true in sacrifice and the song of the hymn. Bring Agni forth, the strong-born, set up the pious beams, fashion the steadfast, make the other forms manifest.

अ॒यं योनि॑श्चकृ॒मा यं व॒यं ते॑ जा॒येव॒ पत्य॑ उश॒ती सु॒वासाः॑ । अ॒र्वा॒ची॒नः परि॑वीतो॒ नि षी॑दे॒मा उ॑ ते स्वपाक प्रती॒चीः
ayaṃ yoniścakṛmā yaṃ vayaṃ te jāyeva patya uśatī suvāsāḥ arvācīnaḥ parivīto ni ṣīdemā u te svapāka pratīcīḥ
This womb you fashioned, that we became by you, may your spouse be born; the radiant ones clothed surround; we sit as your offerings toward the east.

आ॒शृ॒ण्व॒ते अदृ॑पिताय॒ मन्म॑ नृ॒चक्ष॑से सुमृळी॒काय॑ वेधः । दे॒वाय॑ श॒स्तिम॒मृता॑य शंस॒ ग्रावे॑व॒ सोता॑ मधु॒षुद्यमी॒ळे
āśaṛṇvate adṛpitāya manma nṛcakṣase sumṛḷīkāya vedhaḥ devāya śastimamṛtāya śaṃsa grāveva sotā madhuṣudyamīḷe
They listened to one not opposed, the resolute mind of man you pierced, O seer of sweet songs. For the god, for immortal might, praise like honey flowed — the singer striving in sweetness.

tvaṃ cinnaḥ śamyā agne asyā ṛtasya bodhyṛtacitsvādhīḥ kadā ta ukthā sadhamādyāni kadā bhavanti sakhyā gṛhe te
You, Agni, the wise one, know the rule of this rite and the recitation’s power. When will the hymns of the sacred day be present, when will your companions be in your house?

kathā ha tadvaruṇāya tvamagne kathā dive garhase kanna āgaḥ kathā mitrāya mīḷhuṣe pṛthivyai bravaḥ kadaryamṇe kadbhagāya
How then, O Agni, did you go to Varuna? How in the day did you delight the house? How to Mitra did you move, to the wide earth you spoke; when to the ritual, when to the lord?

कद्धिष्ण्या॑सु वृधसा॒नो अ॑ग्ने॒ कद्वाता॑य॒ प्रत॑वसे शुभं॒ये । परि॑ज्मने॒ नास॑त्याय॒ क्षे ब्रवः॒ कद॑ग्ने रु॒द्राय॑ नृ॒घ्ने
kaddhiṣṇyāsu vṛdhasāno agne kadvātāya pratavase śubhaṃye parijmane nāsatyāya kṣe bravaḥ kadagne rudrāya nṛghne
When did you, O Agni, swell with warmth for the fierce ones, when blow for the wind for prosperity? For the falling victim’s protection you speak, when for Rudra the slayer did you roar?

क॒था म॒हे पु॑ष्टिम्भ॒राय॑ पू॒ष्णे कद्रु॒द्राय॒ सुम॑खाय हवि॒र्दे । कद्विष्ण॑व उरुगा॒याय॒ रेतो॒ ब्रवः॒ कद॑ग्ने॒ शर॑वे बृह॒त्यै
kathā mahe puṣṭimbharāya pūṣṇe kadrudrāya sumakhāya havirde kadviṣṇava urugāyāya reto bravaḥ kadagne śarave bṛhatyai
How did you, Pūṣan, who fills great sustenance, and Rudra, and the kindly-faced Haviṛ, say the semen for Vishnu’s mighty progeny, and for Agni, the arrow, for the great one?

kathā śardhāya marutāmṛtāya kathā sūre bṛhate pṛcchyamānaḥ prati bravo'ditaye turāya sādhā divo jātavedaścikitvān
How for the nourishing Maruts’ immortality, how for the mighty Sun, asked in greatness—he replied to Aditi: ‘Swiftly made, suitable to heaven is the knower of births.’

ṛtena ṛtaṃ niyatamīḷa ā gorāmā sacā madhumatpakvamagne kṛṣṇā satī ruśatā dhāsinaiṣā jāmaryeṇa payasā pīpāya
By order the fixed law was set: O Agni, bring the heavy, mild sap ripe with honey. The black, abiding mistress, swift and bright, with milk she was to be drunk.

ऋ॒तेन॒ हि ष्मा॑ वृष॒भश्चि॑द॒क्तः पुमा॑ँ अ॒ग्निः पय॑सा पृ॒ष्ठ्ये॑न । अस्प॑न्दमानो अचरद्वयो॒धा वृषा॑ शु॒क्रं दु॑दुहे॒ पृश्नि॒रूधः॑
ṛtena hi ṣmā vṛṣabhaścidaktaḥ pumām̐ agniḥ payasā pṛṣṭhyena aspandamāno acaradvayodhā vṛṣā śukraṃ duduhe pṛśnirūdhaḥ
By order the bull was struck; Agni, the man, with milk on his back. Unshaken, the two-hostile ones moved; the bulls milked white, shining, they pressed.

ṛtenādriṃ vyasanbhidantaḥ samaṅgiraso navanta gobhiḥ śunaṃ naraḥ pari ṣadannuṣāsamāviḥ svarabhavajjāte agnau
By order they struck the mountain; nine-headed with cows they spread. The man, like a dog, wandered around; born in Agni was the voice of the breath.

ऋ॒तेन॑ दे॒वीर॒मृता॒ अमृ॑क्ता॒ अर्णो॑भि॒रापो॒ मधु॑मद्भिरग्ने । वा॒जी न सर्गे॑षु प्रस्तुभा॒नः प्र सद॒मित्स्रवि॑तवे दधन्युः
ṛtena devīramṛtā amṛktā arṇobhirāpo madhumadbhiragne vājī na sargeṣu prastubhānaḥ pra sadamitsravitave dadhanyuḥ
By order the goddesses, immortal and nectar-bearing, by waters and sweet drinks, O Agni. O kine, in births you were not spawned; in streams to be poured forth were the wealthy ones.

मा कस्य॑ य॒क्षं सद॒मिद्धु॒रो गा॒ मा वे॒शस्य॑ प्रमिन॒तो मापेः । मा भ्रातु॑रग्ने॒ अनृ॑जोरृ॒णं वे॒र्मा सख्यु॒र्दक्षं॑ रि॒पोर्भु॑जेम
mā kasya yakṣaṃ sadamiddhuro gā mā veśasya praminato māpeḥ mā bhrāturagne anṛjorṛṇaṃ vermā sakhyurdakṣaṃ riporbhujema
Do not let anyone seize the share of the house; do not let the robber trample my portion. O Agni, do not let the brother’s treacherous debt oppress me; may I not touch the enemy’s arm.

रक्षा॑ णो अग्ने॒ तव॒ रक्ष॑णेभी रारक्षा॒णः सु॑मख प्रीणा॒नः । प्रति॑ ष्फुर॒ वि रु॑ज वी॒ड्वंहो॑ ज॒हि रक्षो॒ महि॑ चिद्वावृधा॒नम्
rakṣā ṇo agne tava rakṣaṇebhī rārakṣāṇaḥ sumakha prīṇānaḥ prati ṣphura vi ruja vīḍvaṃho jahi rakṣo mahi cidvāvṛdhānam
O Agni, guard us with your protecting power; protector, kindly-faced, be pleased. Strike down the pain and the swift foe; destroy the great harmful growth.

ए॒भिर्भ॑व सु॒मना॑ अग्ने अ॒र्कैरि॒मान्स्पृ॑श॒ मन्म॑भिः शूर॒ वाजा॑न् । उ॒त ब्रह्मा॑ण्यङ्गिरो जुषस्व॒ सं ते॑ श॒स्तिर्दे॒ववा॑ता जरेत
ebhirbhava sumanā agne arkairimānspṛśa manmabhiḥ śūra vājān uta brahmāṇyaṅgiro juṣasva saṃ te śastirdevavātā jareta
Be born, O Agni, with these noble minds, touched by rays and warriors’ spoils, with brave herds. Grant thou, Angiras, bounty; be pleased, O Brahmanaspati, so that thy ordinance may age the gods with might.

ए॒ता विश्वा॑ वि॒दुषे॒ तुभ्यं॑ वेधो नी॒थान्य॑ग्ने नि॒ण्या वचां॑सि । नि॒वच॑ना क॒वये॒ काव्या॒न्यशं॑सिषं म॒तिभि॒र्विप्र॑ उ॒क्थैः
etā viśvā viduṣe tubhyaṃ vedho nīthānyagne niṇyā vacāṃsi nivacanā kavaye kāvyānyaśaṃsiṣaṃ matibhirvipra ukthaiḥ
All these things, O knower, the seers have known; O Agni, thou hast pierced the measures and uttered the words. A poet declares, with counsels and thoughts, praises by hymns from the wise.
