ए॒वा त्वामि॑न्द्र वज्रि॒न्नत्र॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वासः॑ सु॒हवा॑स॒ ऊमाः॑ । म॒हामु॒भे रोद॑सी वृ॒द्धमृ॒ष्वं निरेक॒मिद्वृ॑णते वृत्र॒हत्ये॑
evā tvāmindra vajrinnatra viśve devāsaḥ suhavāsa ūmāḥ mahāmubhe rodasī vṛddhamṛṣvaṃ nirekamidvṛṇate vṛtrahatye
Thus, O Indra of the thunderbolt, you—fosterers all of the gods—have companions; great ones arose with you. The old slayer seeks a single might for slaying Vritra.

अवा॑सृजन्त॒ जिव्र॑यो॒ न दे॒वा भुवः॑ स॒म्राळि॑न्द्र स॒त्ययो॑निः । अह॒न्नहिं॑ परि॒शया॑न॒मर्णः॒ प्र व॑र्त॒नीर॑रदो वि॒श्वधे॑नाः
avāsṛjanta jivrayo na devā bhuvaḥ samrāḷindra satyayoniḥ ahannahiṃ pariśayānamarṇaḥ pra vartanīrarado viśvadhenāḥ
They released life-giving waters; the gods did not remain on earth—Soma-born Indra, source of truth. From day to day the rivers flowed, the streams turned back, the waters went forth by the strength of all.

अतृ॑प्णुवन्तं॒ विय॑तमबु॒ध्यमबु॑ध्यमानं सुषुपा॒णमि॑न्द्र । स॒प्त प्रति॑ प्र॒वत॑ आ॒शया॑न॒महिं॒ वज्रे॑ण॒ वि रि॑णा अप॒र्वन्
atṛpṇuvantaṃ viyatamabudhyamabudhyamānaṃ suṣupāṇamindra sapta prati pravata āśayānamahiṃ vajreṇa vi riṇā aparvan
Indra rose, insufficiently satisfied, unwearied, awake-handed. Seven times he went forth with resolute will; with his thunder he pressed back the resisting foes and overcame the mountain-born.

अक्षो॑दय॒च्छव॑सा॒ क्षाम॑ बु॒ध्नं वार्ण वात॒स्तवि॑षीभि॒रिन्द्रः॑ । दृ॒ळ्हान्यौ॑भ्नादु॒शमा॑न॒ ओजोऽवा॑भिनत्क॒कुभः॒ पर्व॑तानाम्
akṣodayacchavasā kṣāma budhnaṃ vārṇa vātastaviṣībhirindraḥ dṛḷhānyaubhnāduśamāna ojo'vābhinatkakubhaḥ parvatānām
The eye of dawn with the plenteous rain began to fill; Indra, with winds and drops, endowed the strong ones. The two steeds of might were yoked, the bolsters of the mountains grew firm.

अ॒भि प्र द॑द्रु॒र्जन॑यो॒ न गर्भं॒ रथा॑ इव॒ प्र य॑युः सा॒कमद्र॑यः । अत॑र्पयो वि॒सृत॑ उ॒ब्ज ऊ॒र्मीन्त्वं वृ॒ताँ अ॑रिणा इन्द्र॒ सिन्धू॑न्
abhi pra dadrurjanayo na garbhaṃ rathā iva pra yayuḥ sākamadrayaḥ atarpayo visṛta ubja ūrmīntvaṃ vṛtām̐ ariṇā indra sindhūn
They advanced, making a space, not conceiving the womb, like chariots they moved together with strong herb. They scattered the sprouting waves; Indra drove forth the rivers over the plains.

त्वं म॒हीम॒वनिं॑ वि॒श्वधे॑नां तु॒र्वीत॑ये व॒य्या॑य॒ क्षर॑न्तीम् । अर॑मयो॒ नम॒सैज॒दर्णः॑ सुतर॒णाँ अ॑कृणोरिन्द्र॒ सिन्धू॑न्
tvaṃ mahīmavaniṃ viśvadhenāṃ turvītaye vayyāya kṣarantīm aramayo namasaijadarṇaḥ sutaraṇām̐ akṛṇorindra sindhūn
You, moving the earth for all, upraised the threefold regions for the third time. To thee, O Indra, men bow down; thou didst make the ford of crossings, and cleared the channels for the rivers.

प्राग्रुवो॑ नभ॒न्वो॒३॒॑ न वक्वा॑ ध्व॒स्रा अ॑पिन्वद्युव॒तीरृ॑त॒ज्ञाः । धन्वा॒न्यज्रा॑ँ अपृणक्तृषा॒णाँ अधो॒गिन्द्रः॑ स्त॒र्यो॒३॒॑ दंसु॑पत्नीः
prāgruvo nabhanvo3 na vakvā dhvasrā apinvadyuvatīrṛtajñāḥ dhanvānyajrām̐ apṛṇaktṛṣāṇām̐ adhogindraḥ staryo3 daṃsupatnīḥ
Before, the heavens spoke not; not weaker were the floodwise torrents, the law-knowing. The bow-bearing, unwearied, seized the channels of streams; Indra bound down the wives of the waters.

पू॒र्वीरु॒षसः॑ श॒रद॑श्च गू॒र्ता वृ॒त्रं ज॑घ॒न्वाँ अ॑सृज॒द्वि सिन्धू॑न् । परि॑ष्ठिता अतृणद्बद्बधा॒नाः सी॒रा इन्द्रः॒ स्रवि॑तवे पृथि॒व्या
pūrvīruṣasaḥ śaradaśca gūrtā vṛtraṃ jaghanvām̐ asṛjadvi sindhūn pariṣṭhitā atṛṇadbadbadhānāḥ sīrā indraḥ sravitave pṛthivyā
The mighty, sharp, autumnal heroes bound Vṛtra with cords and cast him into the rivers; Indra, surrounded by those not clinging to grass, poured forth through the channels for the earth to flow.

व॒म्रीभिः॑ पु॒त्रम॒ग्रुवो॑ अदा॒नं नि॒वेश॑नाद्धरिव॒ आ ज॑भर्थ । व्य१॒॑न्धो अ॑ख्य॒दहि॑माददा॒नो निर्भू॑दुख॒च्छित्सम॑रन्त॒ पर्व॑
vamrībhiḥ putramagruvo adānaṃ niveśanāddhariva ā jabhartha vya1ndho akhyadahimādadāno nirbhūdukhacchitsamaranta parva
With fierce shafts the foremost sons offered the prize and established the settlement; the slayer of enemies, giving the gift, became fearless and tore through the hosts on the hill.

प्र ते॒ पूर्वा॑णि॒ कर॑णानि विप्रावि॒द्वाँ आ॑ह वि॒दुषे॒ करां॑सि । यथा॑यथा॒ वृष्ण्या॑नि॒ स्वगू॒र्तापां॑सि राज॒न्नर्यावि॑वेषीः
pra te pūrvāṇi karaṇāni viprāvidvām̐ āha viduṣe karāṃsi yathāyathā vṛṣṇyāni svagūrtāpāṃsi rājannaryāviveṣīḥ
O you wise ones, perform the deeds of former times: as bulls plough, so he cleaves the clotted fats like a king seeking conquest among men.

नू ष्टु॒त इ॑न्द्र॒ नू गृ॑णा॒न इषं॑ जरि॒त्रे न॒द्यो॒३॒॑ न पी॑पेः । अका॑रि ते हरिवो॒ ब्रह्म॒ नव्यं॑ धि॒या स्या॑म र॒थ्यः॑ सदा॒साः
nū ṣṭuta indra nū gṛṇāna iṣaṃ jaritre nadyo3 na pīpeḥ akāri te harivo brahma navyaṃ dhiyā syāma rathyaḥ sadāsāḥ
Do not praise Indra, do not sing of his dwelling in this decisive strife nor drink the draught; the devas made for you a fresh thunder-power with insight, may our chariots be ever steady.
