सं जा॑गृ॒वद्भि॒र्जर॑माण इध्यते॒ दमे॒ दमू॑ना इ॒षय॑न्नि॒ळस्प॒दे । विश्व॑स्य॒ होता॑ ह॒विषो॒ वरे॑ण्यो वि॒भुर्वि॒भावा॑ सु॒षखा॑ सखीय॒ते
saṃ jāgṛvadbhirjaramāṇa idhyate dame damūnā iṣayanniḷaspade viśvasya hotā haviṣo vareṇyo vibhurvibhāvā suṣakhā sakhīyate
He awoke like one grown old, desirous of the oblation, with the sacred grass in his hand. He is the priest of the universe, the choicest of offerings, puissant, lordly, gracious.

स द॑र्शत॒श्रीरति॑थिर्गृ॒हेगृ॑हे॒ वने॑वने शिश्रिये तक्व॒वीरि॑व । जनं॑जनं॒ जन्यो॒ नाति॑ मन्यते॒ विश॒ आ क्षे॑ति वि॒श्यो॒३॒॑ विशं॑विशम्
sa darśataśrīratithirgṛhegṛhe vanevane śiśriye takvavīriva janaṃjanaṃ janyo nāti manyate viśa ā kṣeti viśyo3 viśaṃviśam
He beheld splendour and delight in every house, in every grove and forest like a strong hero in battle. People to people do not reckon him born — he spreads, he extends widely.

सु॒दक्षो॒ दक्षैः॒ क्रतु॑नासि सु॒क्रतु॒रग्ने॑ क॒विः काव्ये॑नासि विश्व॒वित् । वसु॒र्वसू॑नां क्षयसि॒ त्वमेक॒ इद्द्यावा॑ च॒ यानि॑ पृथि॒वी च॒ पुष्य॑तः
sudakṣo dakṣaiḥ kratunāsi sukraturagne kaviḥ kāvyenāsi viśvavit vasurvasūnāṃ kṣayasi tvameka iddyāvā ca yāni pṛthivī ca puṣyataḥ
O skilful one, with skilful rites you are the might of ritual; O Agni, O poet, you know all. You destroy the wealth of the Vasus alone, and you are that very heaven and earth that are nourished.

प्र॒जा॒नन्न॑ग्ने॒ तव॒ योनि॑मृ॒त्विय॒मिळा॑यास्प॒दे घृ॒तव॑न्त॒मास॑दः । आ ते॑ चिकित्र उ॒षसा॑मि॒वेत॑योऽरे॒पसः॒ सूर्य॑स्येव र॒श्मयः॑
prajānannagne tava yonimṛtviyamiḷāyāspade ghṛtavantamāsadaḥ ā te cikitra uṣasāmivetayo'repasaḥ sūryasyeva raśmayaḥ
O Agni, begetter of progeny, the womb of your origin received the mortal, the ghee‑bearing ones were seated. Do you paint for them like the rays of dawn, like the very beams of the sun?

तव॒ श्रियो॑ व॒र्ष्य॑स्येव वि॒द्युत॑श्चि॒त्राश्चि॑कित्र उ॒षसां॒ न के॒तवः॑ । यदोष॑धीर॒भिसृ॑ष्टो॒ वना॑नि च॒ परि॑ स्व॒यं चि॑नु॒षे अन्न॑मा॒स्ये॑
tava śriyo varṣyasyeva vidyutaścitrāścikitra uṣasāṃ na ketavaḥ yadoṣadhīrabhisṛṣṭo vanāni ca pari svayaṃ cinuṣe annamāsye
Your splendour rains forth like lightning and varied like the dawn; no banners compare with the dawns. Herbs were created by your plants, the forests around and food for mankind by your own will.

तमोष॑धीर्दधिरे॒ गर्भ॑मृ॒त्वियं॒ तमापो॑ अ॒ग्निं ज॑नयन्त मा॒तरः॑ । तमित्स॑मा॒नं व॒निन॑श्च वी॒रुधो॒ऽन्तर्व॑तीश्च॒ सुव॑ते च वि॒श्वहा॑
tamoṣadhīrdadhire garbhamṛtviyaṃ tamāpo agniṃ janayanta mātaraḥ tamitsamānaṃ vaninaśca vīrudho'ntarvatīśca suvate ca viśvahā
You set the seed in the womb, O Agni; the waters, mothers, born the fire. The forests and the dwelling‑ones and the inner‑dwelling heroes were made like you, all‑sustaining.

वातो॑पधूत इषि॒तो वशा॒ँ अनु॑ तृ॒षु यदन्ना॒ वेवि॑षद्वि॒तिष्ठ॑से । आ ते॑ यतन्ते र॒थ्यो॒३॒॑ यथा॒ पृथ॒क्छर्धां॑स्यग्ने अ॒जरा॑णि॒ धक्ष॑तः
vātopadhūta iṣito vaśām̐ anu tṛṣu yadannā veviṣadvitiṣṭhase ā te yatante rathyo3 yathā pṛthakchardhāṃsyagne ajarāṇi dhakṣataḥ
The winds blow the fragrances along; you, abiding in thirst, stand where foods are poured. The chariots strive for you, as if each were separate, like the swift unfailing ones born of Agni's youthful might.

मे॒धा॒का॒रं वि॒दथ॑स्य प्र॒साध॑नम॒ग्निं होता॑रं परि॒भूत॑मं म॒तिम् । तमिदर्भे॑ ह॒विष्या स॑मा॒नमित्तमिन्म॒हे वृ॑णते॒ नान्यं त्वत्
medhākāraṃ vidathasya prasādhanamagniṃ hotāraṃ paribhūtamaṃ matim tamidarbhe haviṣyā samānamittaminmahe vṛṇate nānyaṃ tvat
O Agni, wielder of sacrifice, purifier of the rite, the sacrificer’s offering-bearer — you, endowed with thought, are worshipped. In this oblation we choose you as equal in the sacred offering; there is no other than you.

त्वामिदत्र॑ वृणते त्वा॒यवो॒ होता॑रमग्ने वि॒दथे॑षु वे॒धसः॑ । यद्दे॑व॒यन्तो॒ दध॑ति॒ प्रयां॑सि ते ह॒विष्म॑न्तो॒ मन॑वो वृ॒क्तब॑र्हिषः
tvāmidatra vṛṇate tvāyavo hotāramagne vidatheṣu vedhasaḥ yaddevayanto dadhati prayāṃsi te haviṣmanto manavo vṛktabarhiṣaḥ
We invoke you here, O Agni, as the oblation-bearer among the householders and priests, worthy of rites. What the gods accept you place before them; you, the sacrificers’ portion, take the offerings of men with stablished mind.

तवा॑ग्ने हो॒त्रं तव॑ पो॒त्रमृ॒त्वियं॒ तव॑ ने॒ष्ट्रं त्वम॒ग्निदृ॑ताय॒तः । तव॑ प्रशा॒स्त्रं त्वम॑ध्वरीयसि ब्र॒ह्मा चासि॑ गृ॒हप॑तिश्च नो॒ दमे॑
tavāgne hotraṃ tava potramṛtviyaṃ tava neṣṭraṃ tvamagnidṛtāyataḥ tava praśāstraṃ tvamadhvarīyasi brahmā cāsi gṛhapatiśca no dame
O Agni, your priestly worship, your virtuous offspring, your guiding power — you are steadfast for Agni’s protection. You proclaimed the glorious weapon; you bestow sovereignty and are Brahman and householder to us; restrain and tame for our sake.

यस्तुभ्य॑मग्ने अ॒मृता॑य॒ मर्त्यः॑ स॒मिधा॒ दाश॑दु॒त वा॑ ह॒विष्कृ॑ति । तस्य॒ होता॑ भवसि॒ यासि॑ दू॒त्य१॒॑मुप॑ ब्रूषे॒ यज॑स्यध्वरी॒यसि॑
yastubhyamagne amṛtāya martyaḥ samidhā dāśaduta vā haviṣkṛti tasya hotā bhavasi yāsi dūtya1mupa brūṣe yajasyadhvarīyasi
Whoever, O Agni, for your gift makes mortals immortal, placing fuel or sending away the offering — for him you become the priest; go and bring the message: proclaim what the worshipper desires, do thou the priestly service.

इ॒मा अ॑स्मै म॒तयो॒ वाचो॑ अ॒स्मदाँ ऋचो॒ गिरः॑ सुष्टु॒तयः॒ सम॑ग्मत । व॒सू॒यवो॒ वस॑वे जा॒तवे॑दसे वृ॒द्धासु॑ चि॒द्वर्ध॑नो॒ यासु॑ चा॒कन॑त्
imā asmai matayo vāco asmadām̐ ṛco giraḥ suṣṭutayaḥ samagmata vasūyavo vasave jātavedase vṛddhāsu cidvardhano yāsu cākanat
These our thoughts, these words, our hymns and praises are for him. The possessors of wealth, born to Vasava, knower of the world, grown in wisdom and increase, he who stirs them —

इ॒मां प्र॒त्नाय॑ सुष्टु॒तिं नवी॑यसीं वो॒चेय॑मस्मा उश॒ते शृ॒णोतु॑ नः । भू॒या अन्त॑रा हृ॒द्य॑स्य नि॒स्पृशे॑ जा॒येव॒ पत्य॑ उश॒ती सु॒वासाः॑
imāṃ pratnāya suṣṭutiṃ navīyasīṃ voceyamasmā uśate śaṛṇotu naḥ bhūyā antarā hṛdyasya nispṛśe jāyeva patya uśatī suvāsāḥ
For this effort I would sing a new praise to you; may the singer listen to our voice. Again and again may she touch the heart, as a wife touches the husband, adorned with fair raiment.

यस्मि॒न्नश्वा॑स ऋष॒भास॑ उ॒क्षणो॑ व॒शा मे॒षा अ॑वसृ॒ष्टास॒ आहु॑ताः । की॒ला॒ल॒पे सोम॑पृष्ठाय वे॒धसे॑ हृ॒दा म॒तिं ज॑नये॒ चारु॑म॒ग्नये॑
yasminnaśvāsa ṛṣabhāsa ukṣaṇo vaśā meṣā avasṛṣṭāsa āhutāḥ kīlālape somapṛṣṭhāya vedhase hṛdā matiṃ janaye cārumagnaye
Wherein restless are horses, bulls, rams and sheep, offerings cast forth as invoked. For Soma’s breast they spread the peg; O priest, with mind enlivened make lovely thought for Agni.

अहा॑व्यग्ने ह॒विरा॒स्ये॑ ते स्रु॒ची॑व घृ॒तं च॒म्वी॑व॒ सोमः॑ । वा॒ज॒सनिं॑ र॒यिम॒स्मे सु॒वीरं॑ प्रश॒स्तं धे॑हि य॒शसं॑ बृ॒हन्त॑म्
ahāvyagne havirāsye te srucīva ghṛtaṃ camvīva somaḥ vājasaniṃ rayimasme suvīraṃ praśastaṃ dhehi yaśasaṃ bṛhantam
O uninjured Agni, your oblations — their sap like clarified butter and soma like the milch-cow. Grant to us heroic strength, rich and excellent reward; bestow fame that grows great.
