कद्ध॑ नू॒नं क॑धप्रियः पि॒ता पु॒त्रं न हस्त॑योः । द॒धि॒ध्वे वृ॑क्तबर्हिषः
kaddha nūnaṃ kadhapriyaḥ pitā putraṃ na hastayoḥ dadhidhve vṛktabarhiṣaḥ
When indeed was father dear and son not at hand; the seers bestowed milk with oblations.

क्व॑ नू॒नं कद्वो॒ अर्थं॒ गन्ता॑ दि॒वो न पृ॑थि॒व्याः । क्व॑ वो॒ गावो॒ न र॑ण्यन्ति
kva nūnaṃ kadvo arthaṃ gantā divo na pṛthivyāḥ kva vo gāvo na raṇyanti
Where indeed did you go for wealth from heaven and earth? Where do your cows not graze in the pasture?

kva vaḥ sumnā navyāṃsi marutaḥ kva suvitā kvo3 viśvāni saubhagā
Where are your new auspicious Maruts, where your well-shaped ones? Where are all the prosperous ones?

यद्यू॒यं पृ॑श्निमातरो॒ मर्ता॑सः॒ स्यात॑न । स्तो॒ता वो॑ अ॒मृतः॑ स्यात्
yadyūyaṃ pṛśnimātaro martāsaḥ syātana stotā vo amṛtaḥ syāt
When you became mothers of the sons of mortals, the praised would be immortal for you; your hymns would be nectar.

मा वो॑ मृ॒गो न यव॑से जरि॒ता भू॒दजो॑ष्यः । प॒था य॒मस्य॑ गा॒दुप॑
mā vo mṛgo na yavase jaritā bhūdajoṣyaḥ pathā yamasya gādupa
Let not the herd-mares of yours be consumed by death among the old; let them follow the path of Yama the herdsman.

मो षु णः॒ परा॑परा॒ निरृ॑तिर्दु॒र्हणा॑ वधीत् । प॒दी॒ष्ट तृष्ण॑या स॒ह
mo ṣu ṇaḥ parāparā nirṛtirdurhaṇā vadhīt padīṣṭa tṛṣṇayā saha
May not the force of death, higher or lower, harm us; may it be struck down by the thirst declared by the singer.

satyaṃ tveṣā amavanto dhanvañcidā rudriyāsaḥ mihaṃ kṛṇvantyavātām
These true ones, like Rudra's shafts, possess wealth and make the winds act here.

वा॒श्रेव॑ वि॒द्युन्मि॑माति व॒त्सं न मा॒ता सि॑षक्ति । यदे॑षां वृ॒ष्टिरस॑र्जि
vāśreva vidyunmimāti vatsaṃ na mātā siṣakti yadeṣāṃ vṛṣṭirasarji
May the rain-bearing waters know this calf; mother, do not withhold it—when their showers are released.

दिवा॑ चि॒त्तमः॑ कृण्वन्ति प॒र्जन्ये॑नोदवा॒हेन॑ । यत्पृ॑थि॒वीं व्यु॒न्दन्ति॑
divā cittamaḥ kṛṇvanti parjanyenodavāhena yatpṛthivīṃ vyundanti
Day and night they fashion mind and lift it by the rain-bearing waters that unfold the earth.

अध॑ स्व॒नान्म॒रुतां॒ विश्व॒मा सद्म॒ पार्थि॑वम् । अरे॑जन्त॒ प्र मानु॑षाः
adha svanānmarutāṃ viśvamā sadma pārthivam arejanta pra mānuṣāḥ
They made the sounds of the Maruts, all over the earth; humans came forth and measured them.

मरु॑तो वीळुपा॒णिभि॑श्चि॒त्रा रोध॑स्वती॒रनु॑ । या॒तेमखि॑द्रयामभिः
maruto vīḷupāṇibhiścitrā rodhasvatīranu yātemakhidrayāmabhiḥ
Maruts with braided hands and varied forms, restrain the violent ones; they who come with swift steeds.

स्थि॒रा वः॑ सन्तु ने॒मयो॒ रथा॒ अश्वा॑स एषाम् । सुसं॑स्कृता अ॒भीश॑वः
sthirā vaḥ santu nemayo rathā aśvāsa eṣām susaṃskṛtā abhīśavaḥ
May your chariot-rules be steady, your horses breathe; well-ordered are these herds, the adorned cows.

अच्छा॑ वदा॒ तना॑ गि॒रा ज॒रायै॒ ब्रह्म॑ण॒स्पति॑म् । अ॒ग्निं मि॒त्रं न द॑र्श॒तम्
acchā vadā tanā girā jarāyai brahmaṇaspatim agniṃ mitraṃ na darśatam
Speak out, O brave one, to the aged lord of Brahman; I have not seen Agni, Mitra.

mimīhi ślokamāsye parjanya iva tatanaḥ gāya gāyatramukthyam
Recite this song of mine like Pṛjanya (the rain); sing the Gayatri freed and invoked.

वन्द॑स्व॒ मारु॑तं ग॒णं त्वे॒षं प॑न॒स्युम॒र्किण॑म् । अ॒स्मे वृ॒द्धा अ॑सन्नि॒ह
vandasva mārutaṃ gaṇaṃ tveṣaṃ panasyumarkiṇam asme vṛddhā asanniha
Praise the Marut host, you who are their radiant banner; they have come to us, aged and vigorous.
