Rigveda 6.004.01

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 4 · Verse 6.4.1

yathā hotarmanuṣo devatātā yajñebhiḥ sūno sahaso yajāsi evā no adya samanā samānānuśannagna uśato yakṣi devān

As the priest offers oblations with many rites and the son sacrifices with vigor, thus today may Agni, seated with like-minded ones, watch over us and guard the gods.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 4 · Verse 6.4.2

sa no vibhāvā cakṣaṇirna vastoragnirvandāru vedyaścano dhāt viśvāyuryo amṛto martyeṣūṣarbhudbhūdatithirjātavedāḥ

May the vivifying ones and the eyes of sight, may not the dwelling-place’s fire harm us; the born-knowers (Jātavedas) who bring forth the world-life, immortal among mortals, have made the earth born.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 4 · Verse 6.4.3

The heavens do not pour out for him whose who do not tend the shining forms; the sun is not luminous nor bright for one whose vital spark is aged; the purifier (Agni) consumes and desires the former offerings.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 4 · Verse 6.4.4

vadmā hi sūno asyadmasadvā cakre agnirjanuṣājmānnam sa tvaṃ na ūrjasana ūrjaṃ dhā rājeva jeravṛke kṣeṣyantaḥ

We indeed declared that this son was born from non-being—Agni consumed flesh and marrow. You, mighty one, bear forth the vigour, exerting power like a king; the wolfish ones will be destroyed.

nitikti yo vāraṇamannamatti vāyurna rāṣṭryatyetyaktūn turyāma yasta ādiśāmarātīratyo na hrutaḥ patataḥ parihrut

He who counted out grain and food, who sent forth the wind and restrained the realm—he carried off (the spoil). The fourth who commands the hosts is not obstructed; he who fell not, removed surrounding fear.

ā sūryo na bhānumadbhirarkairagne tatantha rodasī vi bhāsā citro nayatpari tamāṃsyaktaḥ śociṣā patmannauśijo na dīyan

O Sun, you are not the light with small rays; Agni, your radiant coursing shines like dawn. Vivid splendour led the farthest of his forms; lamenting, the tender shoots did not give birth.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 4 · Verse 6.4.7

tvāṃ hi mandratamamarkaśokairvavṛmahe mahi naḥ śroṣyagne indraṃ na tvā śavasā devatā vāyuṃ pṛṇanti rādhasā nṛtamāḥ

We extol you, O Agni, as the mightiest of suns with lofty splendour; hear us, O great one. Indra and the gods do not strengthen you with sacrifices; the skilled ones with eager songs fill the dance.

nū no agne'vṛkebhiḥ svasti veṣi rāyaḥ pathibhiḥ parṣyaṃhaḥ tā sūribhyo gṛṇate rāsi sumnaṃ madema śatahimāḥ suvīrāḥ

O Agni, be to us like a shield against wolves, protector of the realm on the paths. The princes praise that abundant and excellent wealth; the hundred-armed, mighty ones give us strength.
