agnā yo martyo duvo dhiyaṃ jujoṣa dhītibhiḥ bhasannu ṣa pra pūrvya iṣaṃ vurītāvase
Agni, he to whom the mortal gave up two minds contended with intellect and purposes. He shone forth in the ancient east, desiring that sacred law.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 14 · Verse 6.14.2
agniriddhi pracetā agnirvedhastama ṛṣiḥ agniṃ hotāramīḷate yajñeṣu manuṣo viśaḥ
Agni is the wise inspirer, Agni is the piercing seer, the sage. Agni, the sacrificer, is sought in the rites, the human perceives him.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 14 · Verse 6.14.3
nānā hya1gne'vase spardhante rāyo aryaḥ tūrvanto dasyumāyavo vrataiḥ sīkṣanto avratam
Diverse are the contests in the place of Agni, O noble ones. Swiftly the Dasyus, the Magicians, striving by vows, teach the unrighteous.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 14 · Verse 6.14.4
agnirapsāmṛtīṣahaṃ vīraṃ dadāti satpatim yasya trasanti śavasaḥ saṃcakṣi śatravo bhiyā
Agni grants a mighty hero remembered by the pious; I give the true lord a manly gift. Those whom the funeral rites terrify, the watchful foes behold with dread.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 6, Sukta 14 · Verse 6.14.5
agnirhi vidmanā nido devo martamuruṣyati sahāvā yasyāvṛto rayirvājeṣvavṛtaḥ
Agni indeed will bring the god who lies down to the wise; he will carry the mortal upward. He whose fame is wrapped with treasures is the ruler in the hymns.

Invite for us a great friend, O Mitra, O divine Agni — call forth good counsel for the singer. Bestow safety, well-being, abundant blessing from the heavens and from men; save us from misery, O you who cross over.
