इ॒दमु॒ त्यत्पु॑रु॒तमं॑ पु॒रस्ता॒ज्ज्योति॒स्तम॑सो व॒युना॑वदस्थात् । नू॒नं दि॒वो दु॑हि॒तरो॑ विभा॒तीर्गा॒तुं कृ॑णवन्नु॒षसो॒ जना॑य
idamu tyatpurutamaṃ purastājjyotistamaso vayunāvadasthāt nūnaṃ divo duhitaro vibhātīrgātuṃ kṛṇavannuṣaso janāya
This wide city, the foremost, with light before it stood like the wind against darkness. Truly the daughter of heaven gave milk; the radiant ones made the folk able to pass.

asthuru citrā uṣasaḥ purastānmitā iva svaravo'dhvareṣu vyū vrajasya tamaso dvārocchantīravrañchucayaḥ pāvakāḥ
Let the fair marvels of Dawn be before, like measured sound upon the ways; the doors of darkness opened, the cleansing fires sought the path.

ucchantīradya citayanta bhojānrādhodeyāyoṣaso maghonīḥ acitre antaḥ paṇayaḥ sasantvabudhyamānāstamaso vimadhye
Arising and bright, they thought of joys at mid-morn; the inner helpers, spreading, with understanding dispelled the darkness within the midst.

कु॒वित्स दे॑वीः स॒नयो॒ नवो॑ वा॒ यामो॑ बभू॒यादु॑षसो वो अ॒द्य । येना॒ नव॑ग्वे॒ अङ्गि॑रे॒ दश॑ग्वे स॒प्तास्ये॑ रेवती रे॒वदू॒ष
kuvitsa devīḥ sanayo navo vā yāmo babhūyāduṣaso vo adya yenā navagve aṅgire daśagve saptāsye revatī revadūṣa
Kuvits, goddesses, may the nine sons or the pair of twilights come today to your harmful ones; by whom the nine teams of cows, the ten teams, the seven-month Revati have been driven.

यू॒यं हि दे॑वीरृत॒युग्भि॒रश्वैः॑ परिप्रया॒थ भुव॑नानि स॒द्यः । प्र॒बो॒धय॑न्तीरुषसः स॒सन्तं॑ द्वि॒पाच्चतु॑ष्पाच्च॒रथा॑य जी॒वम्
yūyaṃ hi devīrṛtayugbhiraśvaiḥ pariprayātha bhuvanāni sadyaḥ prabodhayantīruṣasaḥ sasantaṃ dvipāccatuṣpāccarathāya jīvam
You, O goddesses, urged on by the steeds of the ritual, quickly traversed the worlds; awakening the dawns, the luminous ones, possessing two, four, or many rays, they gave life.

क्व॑ स्विदासां कत॒मा पु॑रा॒णी यया॑ वि॒धाना॑ विद॒धुरृ॑भू॒णाम् । शुभं॒ यच्छु॒भ्रा उ॒षस॒श्चर॑न्ति॒ न वि ज्ञा॑यन्ते स॒दृशी॑रजु॒र्याः
kva svidāsāṃ katamā purāṇī yayā vidhānā vidadhurṛbhūṇām śubhaṃ yacchubhrā uṣasaścaranti na vi jñāyante sadṛśīrajuryāḥ
Which of your ancient rites once established the ordinances for the radiant ones? The auspicious and bright Dawns wander about and cannot be known like the straight-fibered ones.

ता घा॒ ता भ॒द्रा उ॒षसः॑ पु॒रासु॑रभि॒ष्टिद्यु॑म्ना ऋ॒तजा॑तसत्याः । यास्वी॑जा॒नः श॑शमा॒न उ॒क्थैः स्तु॒वञ्छंस॒न्द्रवि॑णं स॒द्य आप॑
tā ghā tā bhadrā uṣasaḥ purāsurabhiṣṭidyumnā ṛtajātasatyāḥ yāsvījānaḥ śaśamāna ukthaiḥ stuvañchaṃsandraviṇaṃ sadya āpa
Those bright Dawns are invoked, auspicious and fragrant, born of truth and order; seeds of praise, shining like the moon, they are extolled with hymns and laudatory songs and come swiftly.

ता आ च॑रन्ति सम॒ना पु॒रस्ता॑त्समा॒नतः॑ सम॒ना प॑प्रथा॒नाः । ऋ॒तस्य॑ दे॒वीः सद॑सो बुधा॒ना गवां॒ न सर्गा॑ उ॒षसो॑ जरन्ते
tā ā caranti samanā purastātsamānataḥ samanā paprathānāḥ ṛtasya devīḥ sadaso budhānā gavāṃ na sargā uṣaso jarante
They move together, going forward from the front, equally from all sides, alike in purpose; goddesses of Rit (cosmic order), wise in assembly, progenitors of cattle, not born of the parting of Dawn.

ता इन्न्वे॒३॒॑व स॑म॒ना स॑मा॒नीरमी॑तवर्णा उ॒षस॑श्चरन्ति । गूह॑न्ती॒रभ्व॒मसि॑तं॒ रुश॑द्भिः शु॒क्रास्त॒नूभिः॒ शुच॑यो रुचा॒नाः
tā innve3va samanā samānīramītavarṇā uṣasaścaranti gūhantīrabhvamasitaṃ ruśadbhiḥ śukrāstanūbhiḥ śucayo rucānāḥ
Those same Dawns go forth together with equal ranks; they concealed the earth with shining splendour, bright in body, radiant, pure in brilliance.

र॒यिं दि॑वो दुहितरो विभा॒तीः प्र॒जाव॑न्तं यच्छता॒स्मासु॑ देवीः । स्यो॒नादा वः॑ प्रति॒बुध्य॑मानाः सु॒वीर्य॑स्य॒ पत॑यः स्याम
rayiṃ divo duhitaro vibhātīḥ prajāvantaṃ yacchatāsmāsu devīḥ syonādā vaḥ pratibudhyamānāḥ suvīryasya patayaḥ syāma
The daughters of heaven shine forth the wealth of heaven: goddesses endowed with progeny and splendour who are present with us. May your lords become our protectors, mindful of your seed.

तद्वो॑ दिवो दुहितरो विभा॒तीरुप॑ ब्रुव उषसो य॒ज्ञके॑तुः । व॒यं स्या॑म य॒शसो॒ जने॑षु॒ तद्द्यौश्च॑ ध॒त्तां पृ॑थि॒वी च॑ दे॒वी
tadvo divo duhitaro vibhātīrupa bruva uṣaso yajñaketuḥ vayaṃ syāma yaśaso janeṣu taddyauśca dhattāṃ pṛthivī ca devī
The daughters of heaven, radiant, speak to you: 'We are famed among peoples; grant us the earth and the skies, O goddesses.'
