He who encompassed you with splendid steeds, the chariot with faultless reins, the bringer of offerings and appointed to sacrifice—we invoke him as father by name; we call on that deft striker in our ritual.

Those truthful ones urged on, pouring forth the mind’s bounty—bringing thought and intent forward—may they for us make fame and portion. O Ashvins, bring Soma for us, not robbed by the generous ones.

You were as if newborn, you were youthful, O gods; you were destroyers of foes and liberators of waters. For the blind you opened sight, for the weak you gave strength—that is what the physicians and those learned declared.

purāṇā vāṃ vīryā3 pra bravā jane'tho hāsathurbhiṣajā mayobhuvā tā vāṃ nu navyāvavase karāmahe'yaṃ nāsatyā śradariryathā dadhat
Formerly your heroic deeds they proclaimed; in the people’s presence the physicians were of great help. Now we renew you; this not being absent they placed trust as one applies sacred grease.

Hear this our call in the sacrifice, O Ashvins; teach me, O sons, as fathers taught. In former times ignorance and misbirth afflicted that one; the kind ones pressed upon him and touched him.

You, like a youthful chariot, with rejoicing yoked a mare, harnessing for Purumitra the women. You offered the young oblation and brought splendid sleep, making the town prosperous.

You, like priests, renewed the vigor of the aged and made them live again; you, O pair of youths, performed reverence and offered incense, and instantly made the widespread prayers for this sacrifice.

You, O Horses' pair, pierced the flood of mighty bulls and placed booty in my herds, O Ashvins. You yoked the three-fold dark ones and set them in motion for sevenfold slaughter.

You gave the white steed to the two Ashvins, new with nine powers and with the nine blown, the vigorous one. Having drawn it round, you poured the draught, O friends; grant the oblation not to men but to the bovine realm.

No king blames that which none eats; no sorrow, no dread afflicts us. O Ashvins, spouse-friends, perform the roaring path before the city chariot together with your wives.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 39 · Verse 10.39.12
ā tena yātaṃ manaso javīyasā rathaṃ yaṃ vāmṛbhavaścakruraśvinā yasya yoge duhitā jāyate diva ubhe ahanī sudine vivasvataḥ
By that the chariot of mind went with vigor which the Ashvins turned to the left and right. In whose union the cow that is milked is born—both day and night from Vivaspati they shine.
Rigveda 10.039.13
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 39 · Verse 10.39.13

May that conduct proceed, victorious as a mountain, following the bovine path like a milching cow of Ashvins. The wolf's fierce desire between his teeth, O youthful one, let Shachi of old release it to be devoured.
Rigveda 10.039.14
Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 39 · Verse 10.39.14
etaṃ vāṃ stomamaśvināvakarmātakṣāma bhṛgavo na ratham nyamṛkṣāma yoṣaṇāṃ na marye nityaṃ na sūnuṃ tanayaṃ dadhānāḥ
This hymn of you Ashvins is not a chariot-work, O Bhrigu-born. Do not seize the bride, do not cut off offspring constantly nor give away a son.
