ubhā u nūnaṃ tadidarthayethe vi tanvāthe dhiyo vastrāpaseva sadhrīcīnā yātave premajīgaḥ sudineva pṛkṣa ā taṃsayethe
Both these indeed are for meaning: extend them, strengthen intellect, clothe them. May they, likened to comrades, move eager for love on a good day—grant this inquiry to them.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.2
uṣṭāreva pharvareṣu śrayethe prāyogeva śvātryā śāsurethaḥ dūteva hi ṣṭho yaśasā janeṣu māpa sthātaṃ mahiṣevāvapānāt
Place them in refuge like a camel among caravans, as if in the front line among kin and rulers. As a messenger they stood firm in glory among peoples, like a great bull among waters.

sākaṃyujā śakunasyeva pakṣā paśveva citrā yajurā gamiṣṭam agniriva devayordīdivāṃsā parijmāneva yajathaḥ purutrā
Together with the bird of omen, with a wing like cattle, the brilliant singer went. As Agni among gods he divided the shares like flesh dispersed by men.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.4
āpī vo asme pitareva putrogreva rucā nṛpatīva turyai iryeva puṣṭyai kiraṇeva bhujyai śruṣṭīvāneva havamā gamiṣṭam
May waters be for you as to my fathers, the sons as eager, brilliance like a king in the fourth. Come for nourishment like a ray, for enjoyment like a portion—may the offering go to them.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.5
vaṃsageva pūṣaryā śimbātā mitreva ṛtā śatarā śātapantā vājevoccā vayasā gharmyeṣṭhā meṣeveṣā saparyā3 purīṣā
Like a bamboo’s blow, Pusha’s shafts, like beams from Shimbāta; Mitra’s order is true, a hundredfold, a hundred sources. With the strength of the prize, foremost in vigor, like rams and like men—

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.6
sṛṇyeva jarbharī turpharītū naitośeva turpharī parpharīkā udanyajeva jemanā maderū tā me jarāyvajaraṃ marāyu
Like a nest the seed-bearing one in fertile fields; not this mere service—these are the offspring of the turf’s spread. In the sky the joyous ones with strength, from me the old ones yield vigorous men.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.7

pajreva carcaraṃ jāraṃ marāyu kṣadmevārtheṣu tartarītha ugrā ṛbhū nāpatkharamajrā kharajrurvāyurna parpharatkṣayadrayīṇām
They stirred the low place, the broken bar, mighty in quarrels for goals. The swift did not throw down the fleet ass, nor did the impetuous wind undo the wasting decline of herds.

gharmeva madhu jaṭhare sanerū bhagevitā turpharī phārivāram patareva cacarā candranirṇiṅmanaṛṅgā mananyā3 na jagmī
Warmth like honey in the belly, the guileful one nourished; from turfy shores the flood went. Like a leaf the shining one, lunar in sign, the mind’s ring—she did not depart.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.9

bṛhanteva gambhareṣu pratiṣṭhāṃ pādeva gādhaṃ tarate vidāthaḥ karṇeva śāsuranu hi smarāthoṃ'śeva no bhajataṃ citramapnaḥ
In deep places they established a broad seat; at the foot he bore a burden, crossing away from the foe. At the ear the ruler’s heir indeed remembers—may he share with us and obtain brilliant gain.

āraṅgareva madhverayethe sāragheva gavi nīcīnabāre kīnāreva svedamāsiṣvidānā kṣāmevorjā sūyavasātsacethe
Like a limb the honey they set in the mast, like a yoke they tied to the low kine. Like a border they wiped away sweat; may forgiveness come from pressed strength and union of truth.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 10, Sukta 106 · Verse 10.106.11
ṛdhyāma stomaṃ sanuyāma vājamā no mantraṃ sarathehopa yātam yaśo na pakvaṃ madhu goṣvantarā bhūtāṃśo aśvinoḥ kāmamaprāḥ
May the hymn be set abiding, may the reward become our mantram in the chariot. Glory not yet ripe like honey among cows: the Ashvins’ portion of longing was not fulfilled.
