In front a great one arose by sacrifice, high in counsel, he drove away darkness and came forth to the light. Agni, kindled by the sun, the radiant one was born, all the realms rose with him.

स जा॒तो गर्भो॑ असि॒ रोद॑स्यो॒रग्ने॒ चारु॒र्विभृ॑त॒ ओष॑धीषु । चि॒त्रः शिशुः॒ परि॒ तमां॑स्य॒क्तून्प्र मा॒तृभ्यो॒ अधि॒ कनि॑क्रदद्गाः
sa jāto garbho asi rodasyoragne cārurvibhṛta oṣadhīṣu citraḥ śiśuḥ pari tamāṃsyaktūnpra mātṛbhyo adhi kanikradadgāḥ
He was born, O Agni, as the womb of the vibrant one, adorned among herbs; a wonderful child circled his darkness—do not give him from mothers to others.

विष्णु॑रि॒त्था प॑र॒मम॑स्य वि॒द्वाञ्जा॒तो बृ॒हन्न॒भि पा॑ति तृ॒तीय॑म् । आ॒सा यद॑स्य॒ पयो॒ अक्र॑त॒ स्वं सचे॑तसो अ॒भ्य॑र्च॒न्त्यत्र॑
viṣṇuritthā paramamasya vidvāñjāto bṛhannabhi pāti tṛtīyam āsā yadasya payo akrata svaṃ sacetaso abhyarcantyatra
Vishnu, traverser of the highest stride, measured out the great third; his thought was that from which the waters were made. They worship him with lifted minds where his rivers flow—

अत॑ उ त्वा पितु॒भृतो॒ जनि॑त्रीरन्ना॒वृधं॒ प्रति॑ चर॒न्त्यन्नैः॑ । ता ईं॒ प्रत्ये॑षि॒ पुन॑र॒न्यरू॑पा॒ असि॒ त्वं वि॒क्षु मानु॑षीषु॒ होता॑
ata u tvā pitubhṛto janitrīrannāvṛdhaṃ prati carantyannaiḥ tā īṃ pratyeṣi punaranyarūpā asi tvaṃ vikṣu mānuṣīṣu hotā
O Agni, born of the Pitṛ‑bearer, you move about offering food; you receive these oblations again and again. You assume diverse forms; behold you among men as priest.

होता॑रं चि॒त्रर॑थमध्व॒रस्य॑ य॒ज्ञस्य॑यज्ञस्य के॒तुं रुश॑न्तम् । प्रत्य॑र्धिं दे॒वस्य॑देवस्य म॒ह्ना श्रि॒या त्व१॒॑ग्निमति॑थिं॒ जना॑नाम्
hotāraṃ citrarathamadhvarasya yajñasyayajñasya ketuṃ ruśantam pratyardhiṃ devasyadevasya mahnā śriyā tva1gnimatithiṃ janānām
Praising the Hota, the radiant charioteer, you, Agni, are invoked as the banner of the sacrifice. You are the portion of the god among gods, the glory, the mighty Agni, the minister of men.

स तु वस्त्रा॒ण्यध॒ पेश॑नानि॒ वसा॑नो अ॒ग्निर्नाभा॑ पृथि॒व्याः । अ॒रु॒षो जा॒तः प॒द इळा॑याः पु॒रोहि॑तो राजन्यक्षी॒ह दे॒वान्
sa tu vastrāṇyadha peśanāni vasāno agnirnābhā pṛthivyāḥ aruṣo jātaḥ pada iḷāyāḥ purohito rājanyakṣīha devān
He placed many garments and robes; Agni is the navel of the earth. Born radiant, the sacrificer, the priest, with sacred fuel leads the gods.

आ हि द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी अ॑ग्न उ॒भे सदा॑ पु॒त्रो न मा॒तरा॑ त॒तन्थ॑ । प्र या॒ह्यच्छो॑श॒तो य॑वि॒ष्ठाथा व॑ह सहस्ये॒ह दे॒वान्
ā hi dyāvāpṛthivī agna ubhe sadā putro na mātarā tatantha pra yāhyacchośato yaviṣṭhāthā vaha sahasyeha devān
O Agni, heaven and earth, both, are your parents; not mothers are those two. May you, nourisher, draw them — the strongest — to this people; convey the gods here.
