शिशु॒र्न जा॒तोऽव॑ चक्रद॒द्वने॒ स्व१॒॑र्यद्वा॒ज्य॑रु॒षः सिषा॑सति । दि॒वो रेत॑सा सचते पयो॒वृधा॒ तमी॑महे सुम॒ती शर्म॑ स॒प्रथः॑
śiśurna jāto'va cakradadvane sva1ryadvājyaruṣaḥ siṣāsati divo retasā sacate payovṛdhā tamīmahe sumatī śarma saprathaḥ
A child is born and listens in the circle, either auspicious or obstructive, and sits. The seed of heaven flows with the waters; the elders preserved this dark one—good fortune crowned first.

दि॒वो यः स्क॒म्भो ध॒रुणः॒ स्वा॑तत॒ आपू॑र्णो अं॒शुः प॒र्येति॑ वि॒श्वतः॑ । सेमे म॒ही रोद॑सी यक्षदा॒वृता॑ समीची॒ने दा॑धार॒ समिषः॑ क॒विः
divo yaḥ skambho dharuṇaḥ svātata āpūrṇo aṃśuḥ paryeti viśvataḥ seme mahī rodasī yakṣadāvṛtā samīcīne dādhāra samiṣaḥ kaviḥ
He who is the pillar of heaven and the support of earth, full of waters, the beam traverses everywhere. These are the men of the broad earth, the protectors clothed in night; the poet holds the oblations.

महि॒ प्सरः॒ सुकृ॑तं सो॒म्यं मधू॒र्वी गव्यू॑ति॒रदि॑तेरृ॒तं य॒ते । ईशे॒ यो वृ॒ष्टेरि॒त उ॒स्रियो॒ वृषा॒पां ने॒ता य इ॒तऊ॑तिरृ॒ग्मियः॑
mahi psaraḥ sukṛtaṃ somyaṃ madhūrvī gavyūtiraditerṛtaṃ yate īśe yo vṛṣṭerita usriyo vṛṣāpāṃ netā ya itaūtirṛgmiyaḥ
The wide pasture completed the good Soma, the sweet‑minded song; the rites attained the sun’s path. He who desires the rain of sovereignty, the leader of the herds, he of Rig’s praise, was proclaimed thus.

आ॒त्म॒न्वन्नभो॑ दुह्यते घृ॒तं पय॑ ऋ॒तस्य॒ नाभि॑र॒मृतं॒ वि जा॑यते । स॒मी॒ची॒नाः सु॒दान॑वः प्रीणन्ति॒ तं नरो॑ हि॒तमव॑ मेहन्ति॒ पेर॑वः
ātmanvannabho duhyate ghṛtaṃ paya ṛtasya nābhiramṛtaṃ vi jāyate samīcīnāḥ sudānavaḥ prīṇanti taṃ naro hitamava mehanti peravaḥ
By oneself the butter is milked from the cloud; the nectar of order is born from the navel. The many‑charioted princes appease that lord; men benefit by the streams and carry offerings.

अरा॑वीदं॒शुः सच॑मान ऊ॒र्मिणा॑ देवा॒व्यं१॒॑ मनु॑षे पिन्वति॒ त्वच॑म् । दधा॑ति॒ गर्भ॒मदि॑तेरु॒पस्थ॒ आ येन॑ तो॒कं च॒ तन॑यं च॒ धाम॑हे
arāvīdaṃśuḥ sacamāna ūrmiṇā devāvyaṃ1 manuṣe pinvati tvacam dadhāti garbhamaditerupastha ā yena tokaṃ ca tanayaṃ ca dhāmahe
The devas pour forth this dawn with a wave of splendour; upon men it pours the skin (surface). It places the fetus in the womb, by which we cherish the breast and the son and the abode.

स॒हस्र॑धा॒रेऽव॒ ता अ॑स॒श्चत॑स्तृ॒तीये॑ सन्तु॒ रज॑सि प्र॒जाव॑तीः । चत॑स्रो॒ नाभो॒ निहि॑ता अ॒वो दि॒वो ह॒विर्भ॑रन्त्य॒मृतं॑ घृत॒श्चुतः॑
sahasradhāre'va tā asaścatastṛtīye santu rajasi prajāvatīḥ catasro nābho nihitā avo divo havirbharantyamṛtaṃ ghṛtaścutaḥ
They bore a thousand-fold and a hundred-fold and a third-degree—may these progeny be increasing in vitality. Four navels were fixed; oblations of heaven fill the streams; immortal ghee flows forth.

श्वे॒तं रू॒पं कृ॑णुते॒ यत्सिषा॑सति॒ सोमो॑ मी॒ढ्वाँ असु॑रो वेद॒ भूम॑नः । धि॒या शमी॑ सचते॒ सेम॒भि प्र॒वद्दि॒वस्कव॑न्ध॒मव॑ दर्षदु॒द्रिण॑म्
śvetaṃ rūpaṃ kṛṇute yatsiṣāsati somo mīḍhvām̐ asuro veda bhūmanaḥ dhiyā śamī sacate semabhi pravaddivaskavandhamava darṣadudriṇam
He makes white beauty which the Soma nourishes; the Asura-knower measured the earth. With intellect he set the beech-wood beside the sacred grass and spread the heaven’s bonds like an unrolled girdle.

अध॑ श्वे॒तं क॒लशं॒ गोभि॑र॒क्तं कार्ष्म॒न्ना वा॒ज्य॑क्रमीत्सस॒वान् । आ हि॑न्विरे॒ मन॑सा देव॒यन्तः॑ क॒क्षीव॑ते श॒तहि॑माय॒ गोना॑म्
adha śvetaṃ kalaśaṃ gobhiraktaṃ kārṣmannā vājyakramītsasavān ā hinvire manasā devayantaḥ kakṣīvate śatahimāya gonām
He made the white cup, filled it with cows’ milk, and made the sacrificial barley or the milking-order; with minds the gods conquered, as if hundreds of cows ran to them.

अ॒द्भिः सो॑म पपृचा॒नस्य॑ ते॒ रसोऽव्यो॒ वारं॒ वि प॑वमान धावति । स मृ॒ज्यमा॑नः क॒विभि॑र्मदिन्तम॒ स्वद॒स्वेन्द्रा॑य पवमान पी॒तये॑
adbhiḥ soma papṛcānasya te raso'vyo vāraṃ vi pavamāna dhāvati sa mṛjyamānaḥ kavibhirmadintama svadasvendrāya pavamāna pītaye
They asked Soma with wonders; his juice flows out like rain, the purifier running. As it is pressed by poets, the invigorating draught marches to the one for whom the purifier poured, to be drunk.
