बृ॒हदिन्द्रा॑य गायत॒ मरु॑तो वृत्र॒हन्त॑मम् । येन॒ ज्योति॒रज॑नयन्नृता॒वृधो॑ दे॒वं दे॒वाय॒ जागृ॑वि
bṛhadindrāya gāyata maruto vṛtrahantamam yena jyotirajanayannṛtāvṛdho devaṃ devāya jāgṛvi
He sang for great Indra, Maruts, the slayer of Vritra, by whom he produced the light, banishing falsehood — the mighty god awakened for the gods.

अपा॑धमद॒भिश॑स्तीरशस्ति॒हाथेन्द्रो॑ द्यु॒म्न्याभ॑वत् । दे॒वास्त॑ इन्द्र स॒ख्याय॑ येमिरे॒ बृह॑द्भानो॒ मरु॑द्गण
apādhamadabhiśastīraśastihāthendro dyumnyābhavat devāsta indra sakhyāya yemire bṛhadbhāno marudgaṇa
He struck down the waters and the floods; Indra became lord of the heavens. The gods, for friendship with Indra, invoked the mighty splendour of the Marut host.

प्र व॒ इन्द्रा॑य बृह॒ते मरु॑तो॒ ब्रह्मा॑र्चत । वृ॒त्रं ह॑नति वृत्र॒हा श॒तक्र॑तु॒र्वज्रे॑ण श॒तप॑र्वणा
pra va indrāya bṛhate maruto brahmārcata vṛtraṃ hanati vṛtrahā śatakraturvajreṇa śataparvaṇā
So, for great Indra, the Maruts loudly celebrated. Indra slays Vritra, the Vritra-slayer with hundred deeds, striking with thunderbolt and a hundred-fold fervour.

अ॒भि प्र भ॑र धृष॒ता धृ॑षन्मनः॒ श्रव॑श्चित्ते असद्बृ॒हत् । अर्ष॒न्त्वापो॒ जव॑सा॒ वि मा॒तरो॒ हनो॑ वृ॒त्रं जया॒ स्वः॑
abhi pra bhara dhṛṣatā dhṛṣanmanaḥ śravaścitte asadbṛhat arṣantvāpo javasā vi mātaro hano vṛtraṃ jayā svaḥ
They bore him forward with resolute mind, firm in spirit, hearing and thought great and not false. Waters rushed with strength, mothers aided; they struck down Vritra by mighty victory.

यज्जाय॑था अपूर्व्य॒ मघ॑वन्वृत्र॒हत्या॑य । तत्पृ॑थि॒वीम॑प्रथय॒स्तद॑स्तभ्ना उ॒त द्याम्
yajjāyathā apūrvya maghavanvṛtrahatyāya tatpṛthivīmaprathayastadastabhnā uta dyām
What was born then, unprecedented, by the generous slayer of Vritra — that he spread the earth and set the heavens in place.

तत्ते॑ य॒ज्ञो अ॑जायत॒ तद॒र्क उ॒त हस्कृ॑तिः । तद्विश्व॑मभि॒भूर॑सि॒ यज्जा॒तं यच्च॒ जन्त्व॑म्
tatte yajño ajāyata tadarka uta haskṛtiḥ tadviśvamabhibhūrasi yajjātaṃ yacca jantvam
From that the sacrifice arose, from that the sun or the splendid rite. You encompassed the universe — what was born and what breathes.

आ॒मासु॑ प॒क्वमैर॑य॒ आ सूर्यं॑ रोहयो दि॒वि । घ॒र्मं न साम॑न्तपता सुवृ॒क्तिभि॒र्जुष्टं॒ गिर्व॑णसे बृ॒हत्
āmāsu pakvamairaya ā sūryaṃ rohayo divi gharmaṃ na sāmantapatā suvṛktibhirjuṣṭaṃ girvaṇase bṛhat
In the months when the sun grew ripe in the sky, you made the sun shine by day. Heat, not the summer-heat, was strengthened by good deeds — the great one praised in the assembly.
